Are charge fluctuations a good signal for QGP?

A recent proposal to study charge fluctuations as a possible signal of quark-gluon plasma is discussed. It is shown that the "pion gas model" considered as the reference sample is unrealistic and the expected signal from plasma may be difficult to distinguish from that coming from "standard collisions".

Bose-Einstein Effect in Z0 Decay and the Weight Method

We discuss the Bose-Einstein interference effect in multiparticle production. After a short review of various methods of implementation of this effect into Monte Carlo generators the weight method is presented in more detail and used to analyze the data for hadronic Z0 decays. In particular, we consider the possibility of deducing the two-particle weight factor from the experimental data.

Event-by-event cluster analysis of final states from heavy ion collisions

We present an event-by-event analysis of the cluster structure of final multihadron states resulting from heavy ion collisions. A comparison of experimental data with the states obtained from Monte Carlo generators is shown. The analysis of the first available experimental events suggests that the method is suitable for selecting some different types of events.

Bose - Einstein effect in Monte Carlo generators

We briefly review various methods of implementing the Bose - Einstein effect into Monte Carlo generators. The weight methods are discussed in more detail; in particular, our method employing a clustering algorithm is applies for the process e^+e^- -> W^+W^-. New results for the multiplicity distributions are presented.

The Bose-Einstein effect and the joint WW decay

The influence of the Bose - Einstein interference effect on the joint WW hadronic decay is discussed. It is shown that the weight method incorporating this effect into Monte Carlo generators produces in a natural way an excess of average multiplicity as compared to the independent decay of two W bosons. The quantitative results for the average multiplicity and momentum distribution of charged pions, obtained with a simple parametrization of weights compatible with the observed shape of the "Bose - Einstein ratio", agree well with the existing data.

WW decays and Bose-Einstein correlations

Various methods of implementing the Bose-Einstein effect into Monte Carlo generators, especially for the process e^+ e^- > W^+ W^-, are briefly reviewed and their predictions for the W mass shifts are compared. The weight methods, which yield very similar predictions independent on the detailed prescription for weights, are discussed in more detail. In particular, we advocate a new method, which seems to be practical and reasonably well justified theoretically.

The Bose-Einstein effect in Monte-Carlo generators: weight methods

We present a method which incorporates the Bose-Einstein effect into Monte Carlo generators for multiple production by weighting the events. Various aspects of weight calculations are discussed in detail. We show that our method allows to describe reasonably well a sample of data and we outline the future tests and applications.
