Impact of squark generation mixing on the search for squarks and gluinos at LHC

We study the effect of squark-generation mixing on production and decays of squarks and gluinos at LHC in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We show that the mixing effects can be very large in a significant range of the squark-generation mixing parameters despite the very strong constraints on quark-flavour violation (QFV) from experimental data on B mesons. We find that under favourable conditions the QFV decay branching ratio B(gluino -> c bar{t} (t bar{c}) neutralino_1) can be as large as about 50%, which may lead to significant QFV signals at LHC. We also find that the squark generation mixing can result in a novel multiple-edge (3- or 4-edge) structure in the charm-top quark invariant mass distribution. Further we show that the two lightest up-type squarks ~u_{1,2} can have very large branching ratios for the decays ~u_i -> c neutralino_1 and ~u_i -> t neutralino_1 simultaneously due to the mixing effect, resulting in QFV signals 'pp -> c bar{t} (t bar{c}) + missing-E_T + X' at a significant rate at LHC. These remarkable signatures could provide a powerful test of supersymmetric QFV at LHC and could have an important impact on the search for squarks and gluinos and the determination of the MSSM parameters at LHC.

Impact of squark generation mixing on the search for gluinos at LHC

We study gluino decays in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with squark generation mixing. We show that the effect of this mixing on the gluino decay branching ratios can be very large in a significant part of the MSSM parameter space despite the very strong experimental constraints on quark flavour violation (QFV) from B meson observables. Especially we find that under favourable conditions the branching ratio of the the QFV gluino decay gluino -> c bar{t} (bar{c} t) + neutralino_1 can be as large as about 50%. We also find that the squark generation mixing can result in a multiple-edge (3- or 4-edge) structure in the charm-top quark invariant mass distribution. The appearance of this remarkable structure provides an additional powerful test of supersymmetric QFV at LHC. These could have an important impact on the search for gluinos and the determination of the MSSM parameters at LHC.

CP-sensitive spin-spin correlations in neutralino production at the ILC

We study the CP-violating terms of the spin-spin correlations in neutralino production and their subsequent two-body decays into sleptons plus leptons at the ILC. We analyze CP-sensitive observables with the help of T-odd products of the spin-spin terms. These terms depend on the polarizations of both neutralinos, with one polarization perpendicular to the production plane. We present a detailed numerical study of the CP-sensitive observables, cross sections, and neutralino branching ratios in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters.

CP observables with spin-spin correlations in chargino production

We study the CP-violating terms of the spin-spin correlations in chargino production e+e- -> chi^+/-_1 chi^-/+_2, and their subsequent two-body decays into sneutrinos plus leptons. We propose novel CP-sensitive observables with the help of T-odd products of the spin-spin terms. These terms depend on the polarizations of both charginos, with one polarization perpendicular to the production plane. We identify two classes of CP-sensitive observables; one requires the reconstruction of the production plane, the other not. Our framework is the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters.

Impact of slepton generation mixing on the search for sneutrinos

We perform a systematic study of sneutrino production and decays in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with slepton generation mixing. We study both fermionic decays like sneutrino \to l^- chargino^+, nu neutralino and bosonic decays such as sneutrino \to slepton^- H^+, slepton^- W^+. We show that the effect of slepton generation mixing on the sneutrino production cross sections and its decay branching ratios can be quite large in a significant part of the MSSM parameter space despite the very strong experimental limits on lepton flavour violating processes. This could have an important impact on the search for sneutrinos and the determination of the MSSM parameters at future colliders, such as LHC, ILC, CLIC and muon collider.

Collider aspects of flavour physics at high Q

This review presents flavour related issues in the production and decays of heavy states at LHC, both from the experimental side and from the theoretical side. We review top quark physics and discuss flavour aspects of several extensions of the Standard Model, such as supersymmetry, little Higgs model or models with extra dimensions. This includes discovery aspects as well as measurement of several properties of these heavy states. We also present public available computational tools related to this topic.

CP asymmetries with Longitudinal and Transverse Beam Polarizations in Neutralino Production and Decay into the Z^0 Boson at the ILC

We study neutralino production at the linear collider with the subsequent two-body decays ~chi^0_i -> ~chi^0_n Z^0 and Z^0 -> l^+ l^-, with l=e, mu, tau, or Z^0 -> q q- with q=c,b. We show that transverse electron and positron beam polarizations allow the definition of unique CP observables. These are azimuthal asymmetries in the distributions of the final leptons or quarks. We calculate these CP asymmetries and the cross sections in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex higgsino and gaugino parameters mu and M_1. For final quark pairs, we find CP asymmetries as large as 30%. We discuss the significances for observing the CP asymmetries at the International Linear Collider (ILC). Finally we compare the CP asymmetries with those asymmetries which require unpolarized and/or longitudinally polarized beams only.

CP asymmetries in chargino production and decay: the three-body decay case

We study CP violation in chargino production and decay in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with complex parameters at an e^+ e^- linear collider with longitudinally polarized beams. We investigate CP-sensitive asymmetries by means of triple product correlations and study their dependence on the complex parameters M_1 and mu. We give numerical predictions for the asymmetries and their measurability at the future International Linear Collider. Our results show that the CP asymmetries can be measured in a large region of the MSSM parameter space.

Selectron production at an e-e- linear collider with transversely polarized beams

We study selectron production at an e-e- linear collider. With the help of transverse beam polarizations, we define CP sensitive observables in the production process e- e- --> selectron_L selectron_R. This process proceeds via t-channel and u-channel exchange of neutralinos, and is sensitive to CP violation in the neutralino sector. We present numerical results and estimate the significances to which the CP sensitive observables can be measured.

CP asymmetries in scalar bottom quark decays

We propose CP asymmetries based on triple product correlations in the decays sbottom_m -> top chargino_j with subsequent decays of top and chargino_j. For the subsequent chargino_j decay into a leptonic final state l^- νneutralino_1 we consider the three possible decay chains chargino_j -> l^- sneutrino -> l^- νneutralino_1, chargino_j -> slepton_n ν-> l^- νneutralino_1 and chargino_j -> W^- neutralino_1 -> l^- νneutralino_1. We consider two classes of CP asymmetries. In the first class it must be possible to distinguish between different leptonic chargino_j decay chains, whereas in the second class this is not necessary. We consider also the 2-body decay chargino_j -> W^- neutralino_1, and we assume that the momentum of the W boson can be measured. Our framework is the minimal supersymmetric standard model with complex parameters. The proposed CP asymmetries are non-vanishing due to non-zero phases for the parameters μand/or A_b. We present numerical results and estimate the observability of these CP asymmetries.

Test of lepton flavour violation at LHC

We study lepton flavour violating decays of neutralinos and sleptons within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, assuming two and three generation mixings in the slepton sector. We take into account the most recent bounds on flavour violating rare lepton decays. Taking the SPS1a' scenario as an example, we show that some of the lepton flavour violating branching ratios of neutralinos and sleptons can be sizable (~ 5-10%). We study the impact of the lepton flavour violating neutralino and slepton decays on the di-lepton mass distributions measured at LHC. We find that they can result in novel and characteristic edge structures in the distributions. In particular, double-edge structures can appear in the e tau and mu tau mass spectra if ~tau_1 is the lightest slepton. The appearance of these remarkable structures provides a powerful test of supersymmetric lepton flavour violation at LHC.

CP-odd observables in neutralino production with transverse e+ and e- beam polarization

We consider neutralino production and decay e^+e^ --> chi^0_i chi^0_j, chi^0_j --> chi^0_1 f \bar{f} at a linear collider with transverse e^+ and e^- beam polarization. We propose CP asymmetries by means of the azimuthal distribution of the produced neutralinos and of that of the final leptons, while taking also into account the subsequent decays of the neutralinos. We include the complete spin correlations between production and decay. Our framework is the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters. In a numerical study we show that there are good prospects to observe these CP asymmetries at the International Linear Collider and estimate the accuracy expected for the determination of the phases in the neutralino sector.

Supersymmetry Parameter Analysis: SPA Convention and Project

High-precision analyses of supersymmetry parameters aim at reconstructing the fundamental supersymmetric theory and its breaking mechanism. A well defined theoretical framework is needed when higher-order corrections are included. We propose such a scheme, Supersymmetry Parameter Analysis SPA, based on a consistent set of conventions and input parameters. A repository for computer programs is provided which connect parameters in different schemes and relate the Lagrangian parameters to physical observables at LHC and high energy e+e- linear collider experiments, i.e., masses, mixings, decay widths and production cross sections for supersymmetric particles. In addition, programs for calculating high-precision low energy observables, the density of cold dark matter (CDM) in the universe as well as the cross sections for CDM search experiments are included. The SPA scheme still requires extended efforts on both the theoretical and experimental side before data can be evaluated in the future at the level of the desired precision. We take here an initial step of testing the SPA scheme by applying the techniques involved to a specific supersymmetry reference point.

The role of polarized positrons and electrons in revealing fundamental interactions at the Linear Collider

The proposed International Linear Collider (ILC) is well-suited for discovering physics beyond the Standard Model and for precisely unraveling the structure of the underlying physics. The physics return can be maximized by the use of polarized beams. This report shows the paramount role of polarized beams and summarizes the benefits obtained from polarizing the positron beam, as well as the electron beam. The physics case for this option is illustrated explicitly by analyzing reference reactions in different physics scenarios. The results show that positron polarization, combined with the clean experimental environment provided by the linear collider, allows to improve strongly the potential of searches for new particles and the identification of their dynamics, which opens the road to resolve shortcomings of the Standard Model. The report also presents an overview of possible designs for polarizing both beams at the ILC, as well as for measuring their polarization.

Triple product correlations in top squark decays

We propose several T-odd asymmetries in the decay chains of the top squarks $\tilde t_m \to t \tilde χ^0_k$ and $t\to bW^+\to blν$ and $\tildeχ^0_k \to l^\pm\tilde l_n^\mp \to l^\pm l^\mp\tildeχ^0_1$, for $l =e,μ,τ$. We calculate the asymmetries within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters $M_1$, $μ$ and $A_t$. We give the analytic formulae for the decay distributions. We present numerical results for the asymmetries and estimate the event rates necessary to observe them. The largest T-odd asymmetry can be as large as 40%.

A T-odd asymmetry in neutralino production and decay

We study CP-violating effects in neutralino production and subsequent decay within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters M_1 and mu. The observable we propose is a T-odd asymmetry based on a triple product in neutralino production e^+ e^- -> tilde{chi}^0_i tilde{chi}^0_2, i = 1,...,4, with subsequent leptonic three-body decay tilde{chi}^0_2 -> tilde{chi}^0_1 l^+ l^-, l = e, mu, at an e^+ e^- linear collider with sqrt{s} = 500 GeV and polarised beams. We provide compact analytical formulae for the cross section and the T-odd asymmetry taking into account the complete spin correlations between production and decay. We give numerical predictions for the cross section and the T-odd asymmetry. The asymmetry can go up to 10 %.

CP sensitive observables in chargino production with transverse $e^{\pm}$ beam polarization

We consider the process $e^+e^-\to\tiχ^+_i\tiχ^-_j$ at a linear collider with transverse $e^{\pm}$ beam polarization. We investigate the influence of the CP phases on azimuthal asymmetries in $e^+e^-\to\tiχ^+_i\tiχ^-_j$ with subsequent two-body decays $\tiχ^-_j\to \tiν_{\ell}\ell^-$ and $\tiχ^-_j\to W^-\tiχ^0_1$. We show that triple product correlations involving the transverse $e^{\pm}$ beam polarization vanish if at least one subsequent chargino decay is not observed. We derive this result within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with complex parameters, however, it holds also in the general MSSM with SUSY flavour violation.
