The paper is devoted to 2-local derivations on matrix algebras over commutative regular algebras. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on a commutative regular algebra to admit 2-local derivations which are not derivations. We prove that every 2-local derivation on a matrix algebra over a commutative regular algebra is a derivation. We apply these results to 2-local derivations on algebras of measurable and locally measurable operators affiliated with type I von Neumann algebras.
The paper is devoted to 2-local derivations on the algebra $LS(M)$ of all locally measurable operators affiliated with a type I$_\infty$ von Neumann algebra $M.$ We prove that every 2-local derivation on $LS(M)$ is a derivation.
The paper is devoted to 2-local derivations and 2-local automorphisms on the algebra $B(H)$ of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space $H.$ We prove that every 2-local derivation on $B(H)$ is a derivation. A similar result is obtained for automorphisms.
Given a von Neumann algebra $M$ we consider the central extension $E(M)$ of $M.$ We describe class of von Neumann algebras $M$ for which the algebra $E(M)$ coincides with the algebra $S(M)$ -- the algebra of all measurable operators with respect to $M,$ and with $S(M, τ)$ -- the algebra of all $τ$-measurable operators with respect to $M.$
The paper is devoted to so-called local and 2-local derivations on the noncommutative Arens algebra $L^ω(M, τ)$ associated with a von Neumann algebra $M$ and a faithful normal semi-finite trace $τ.$ We prove that every 2-local derivation on $L^ω(M, τ)$ is a spatial derivation, and if $M$ is a finite von Neumann algebra, then each local derivation on $L^ω(M, τ)$ is also a spatial derivation and every 2-local derivation on $M$ is in fact an inner derivation.
Given a von Neumann algebra $M$ we consider the central extension $E(M)$ of $M.$ We introduce the topology $t_c(M)$ on $E(M)$ generated by a center-valued norm and prove that it coincides with the topology of convergence locally in measure on $E(M)$ if and only if $M$ does not have direct summands of type II. We also show that $t_c(M)$ restricted on the set $E(M)_h$ of self-adjoint elements of $E(M)$ coincides with the order topology on $E(M)_h$ if and only if $M$ is a $σ$-finite type I$_{fin}$ von Neumann algebra.
Given a von Neumann algebra $M$ we consider the central extension $E(M)$ of $M.$ For type I von Neumann algebras $E(M)$ coincides with the algebra $LS(M)$ of all locally measurable operators affiliated with $M.$ In this case we show that an arbitrary automorphism $T$ of $E(M)$ can be decomposed as $T=T_a\circ T_ϕ,$ where $T_a(x)=axa^{-1}$ is an inner automorphism implemented by an element $a\in E(M),$ and $T_ϕ$ is a special automorphism generated by an automorphism $ϕ$ of the center of $E(M).$ In particular if $M$ is of type I$_\infty$ then every band preserving automorphism of $E(M)$ is inner.
Given a von Neumann algebra $M$ with a faithful normal finite trace $τ$ denote by $L^Λ(M, τ)$ the generalized Arens algebra with respect to $M.$ We give a complete description of all additive derivations on the algebra $L^Λ(M, τ).$ In particular each additive derivation on the algebra $L^Λ(M, τ),$ where $M$ is a type II von Neumann algebra, is inner.
Given a von Neumann algebra $M$ with a faithful normal finite trace, we introduce the so called finite tracial algebra $M_f$ as the intersection of $L_p$-spaces $L_p(M, μ)$ over all $p \geq 1$ and over all faithful normal finite traces $μ$ on $M.$ Basic algebraic and topological properties of finite tracial algebras are studied. We prove that all derivations on these algebras are inner.
The paper is devoted to local derivations on the algebra $S(\mathcal{M},τ)$ of $τ$-measurable operators affiliated with a von Neumann algebra $\mathcal{M}$ and a faithful normal semi-finite trace $τ.$ We prove that every local derivation on $S(\mathcal{M},τ)$ which is continuous in the measure topology, is in fact a derivation. In the particular case of type I von Neumann algebras they all are inner derivations. It is proved that for type I finite von Neumann algebras without an abelian direct summand, and also for von Neumann algebras with the atomic lattice of projections, the condition of continuity of the local derivation is redundant. Finally we give necessary and sufficient conditions on a commutative von Neumann algebra $\mathcal{M}$ for the existence of local derivations which are not derivations on algebras of measurable operators affiliated with $\mathcal{M}.$
Let $M$ be a type I von Neumann algebra with the center $Z,$ and let $LS(M)$ be the algebra of all locally measurable operators affiliated with $M.$ We prove that every $Z$-linear derivation on $LS(M)$ is inner. In particular all $Z$-linear derivations on the algebras of measurable and respectively totally measurable operators are spatial and implemented by elements from $LS(M).$
Given a von Neumann algebra $M$ denote by $S(M)$ and $LS(M)$ respectively the algebras of all measurable and locally measurable operators affiliated with $M.$ For a faithful normal semi-finite trace $τ$ on $M$ let $S(M, τ)$ (resp. $S_0(M, τ)$) be the algebra of all $τ$-measurable (resp. $τ$-compact) operators from $S(M).$ We give a complete description of all derivations on the above algebras of operators in the case of type I von Neumann algebra $M.$ In particular, we prove that if $M$ is of type I$_\infty$ then every derivation on $LS(M)$ (resp. $S(M)$ and $S(M,τ)$) is inner, and each derivation on $S_0(M, τ)$ is spatial and implemented by an element from $S(M, τ).$
Given a type I von Neumann algebra $M$ with a faithful normal semi-finite trace $τ,$ let $S_0(M, τ)$ be the algebra of all $τ$-compact operators affiliated with $M.$ We give a complete description of all derivations on the algebra $S_0(M, τ).$ In particular, we prove that if $M$ is of type I$_\infty$ then every derivation on $S_0(M, τ)$ is spatial.
Given a von Neumann algebra $M$ with a faithful normal semi-finite trace $τ,$ let $L(M, τ)$ be the algebra of all $τ$-measurable operators affiliated with $M.$ We prove that if $A$ is a locally convex reflexive complete metrizable solid $\ast$-subalgebra in $L(M, τ),$ which can be embedded into a locally bounded weak Fréchet $M$-bimodule, then any derivation on $A$ is inner.
Given a type I von Neumann algebra $M$ with a faithful normal semi-finite trace $τ,$ let $L(M, τ)$ be the algebra of all $τ$-measurable operators affiliated with $M.$ We give a complete description of all derivations on the algebra $L(M, τ).$ In particular, we prove that if $M$ is of type I$_\infty$ then every derivation on $L(M, τ)$ is inner.
Let $M$ be a type I von Neumann algebra with the center $Z,$ a faithful normal semi-finite trace $τ.$ Let $L(M, τ)$ be the algebra of all $τ$-measurable operators affiliated with $M$ and let $S_0(M, τ)$ be the subalgebra in $L(M, τ)$ consisting of all operators $x$ such that given any $ε>0$ there is a projection $p\in\mathcal{P}(M)$ with $τ(p^{\perp})<\infty, xp\in M$ and $\|xp\|<ε.$ We prove that any $Z$-linear derivation of $S_0(M, τ)$ is spatial and generated by an element from $L(M, τ).$
Given a von Neumann algebra $M$ with a faithful normal semi-finite trace $τ,$ we consider the non commutative Arens algebra $L^ω(M, τ)=\bigcap\limits_{p\geq1}L^{p}(M, τ)$ and the related algebras $L^ω_2(M, τ)=\bigcap\limits_{p\geq2}L^{p}(M, τ)$ and $M+L^ω_2(M, τ)$ which are proved to be complete metrizable locally convex *-algebras. The main purpose of the present paper is to prove that any derivation of the algebra $M+L^ω_2(M, τ)$ is inner and all derivations of the algebras $L^ω(M,τ)$ and $L^ω_2(M, τ)$ are spatial and implemented by elements of $M+L^ω_2(M, τ).$
