Topological surface states host superconductivity induced by the bulk condensate in YRuB$_2$

While the possibility of topological superconductivity (TSC) in hybrid heterostructures involving topologically nontrivial band structure and superconductors has been proposed, the realization of TSC in a single stoichiometric material is most desired for fundamental experimental investigation of TSC and its device applications. Bulk measurements on YRuB$_2$ detect a single superconducting gap of $\sim$ 1 meV. This is supported by our electronic structure calculations which also reveal the existence of topological surface states in the system. We performed surface-sensitive Andreev reflection spectroscopy on YRuB$_2$ and detected the bulk superconducting gap as well as another superconducting gap of $\sim$ 0.5 meV. From our analysis of electronic structure, we show that the smaller gap is formed in the topological surface states in YRuB$_2$ due to the proximity of the bulk superconducting condensate. Thus, in agreement with the past theoretical predictions, we present YRuB$_2$ as a unique system that hosts superconducting topological surface states.

Superconducting properties of new hexagonal and noncentrosymmetric cubic high entropy alloys

Superconducting high-entropy alloys (HEAs) are a newly burgeoning field of unconventional superconductors and raise intriguing questions about the presence of superconductivity in highly disordered systems, which lack regular phonon modes. In our study, we have synthesized and investigated the superconducting characteristics of two new transition elements based HEAs Re$_{0.35} $Os$_{0.35} $Mo$_{0.08} $W$_{0.10} $Zr$_{0.12}$ (ReOMWZ) crystallizing in noncentrosymmetric $\alpha$-Mn structure, and Ru$_{0.35} $Os$_{0.35} $Mo$_{0.10} $W$_{0.10} $Zr$_{0.10}$ (RuOMWZ) crystallizing hexagonal closed-packed structure (hcp). Transition metal-based hexagonal hcp HEA is rare and highly desirable for practical applications due to their high hardness. Bulk magnetization, resistivity, and specific heat measurements confirmed bulk type-II superconductivity in both alloys. Specific heat analysis up to the measured low-temperature range suffices for a BCS explanation. Comparable upper critical fields with the Pauli paramagnetic limit suggest the possibility of unconventional superconductivity in both HEAs.

An investigation of type-I superconductivity in single crystal of Pb2Pd

We have investigated the superconducting properties in a single crystal of a new superconductor Pb$_{2}$Pd via various techniques including magnetization, AC transport, transverse field muon spin rotation and relaxation (TF-$\mu$SR), and heat capacity. Pb$_{2}$Pd crystallizes in a body-centred tetragonal structure with space group I4/$mcm$. All measurements confirm the superconducting transition temperature, T$_{C}$ = 3.0 $\pm$ 0.1 K. Electronic specific heat data are well described by the BCS fitting, suggesting that Pb$_{2}$Pd opens an isotropic gap on entering the superconducting state. The specific heat jump and $\lambda_{e-ph}$ value categorize Pb$_{2}$Pd as a moderately coupled superconductor. Magnetization and transverse field muon spin rotation measurements along with Ginzburg-Landau parameter, $\kappa$ < 1/$\sqrt{2}$ strongly infers that Pb$_{2}$Pd is a type I superconductor.

Fully gapped superconductivity in centrosymmetric and non-centrosymmetric Re-B compounds probed with $\mu$SR

We present a comprehensive study on superconducting properties of Re$_7$B$_3$ and Re$_3$B through specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, resistivity, and transverse and zero-field muon spin rotation/relaxation ($\mu$SR) experiments on polycrystalline samples. Re$_7$B$_3$ (T$_C$ = 3.2~K) is a non-centrosymmetric type-II ($\kappa$ $\approx$ 9.27) superconductor in the weak coupling ($\lambda_{e-ph}$ = 0.54) regime. On the other hand, Re$_3$B (T$_C$ = 5.19~K) is a centrosymmetric type-II ($\kappa$ $\approx$ 34.55) superconductor in the moderate coupling ($\lambda_{e-ph}$ = 0.64) regime. Our transverse-field $\mu$SR measurements show evidence for isotropically gapped BCS type superconductivity with normalized gap ($\Delta_0/k_BT_C$) values of 1.69 (Re$_7$B$_3$) and 1.75 (Re$_3$B).
