Two-flavor lattice QCD in the epsilon-regime and chiral Random Matrix Theory

The low-lying eigenvalue spectrum of the QCD Dirac operator in the epsilon-regime is expected to match with that of chiral Random Matrix Theory (ChRMT). We study this correspondence for the case including sea quarks by performing two-flavor QCD simulations on the lattice. Using the overlap fermion formulation, which preserves exact chiral symmetry at finite lattice spacings, we push the sea quark mass down to \sim 3 MeV on a 16^3\times 32 lattice at a lattice spacing a \simeq 0.11 fm. We compare the low-lying eigenvalue distributions and find a good agreement with the analytical predictions of ChRMT. By matching the lowest-lying eigenvalue we extract the chiral condensate, Σ(2 GeV)[MSbar] = [251(7)(11) MeV]^3, where errors represent statistical and higher order effects in the epsilon expansion. We also calculate the eigenvalue distributions on the lattices with heavier sea quarks at two lattice spacings. Although the epsilon expansion is not applied for those sea quarks, we find a reasonable agreement of the Dirac operator spectrum with ChRMT. The value of Sigma, after extrapolating to the chiral limit, is consistent with the estimate in the epsilon-regime.

Photo- and electro-production of medium mass Lambda-hypernuclei

The characteristic and selective nature of the electro-magnetic production of Lambda-hypernuclei in exciting states is demonstrated assuming the medium-mass targets 28Si, 40Ca, and 52Cr. Formalism of DWIA is used adopting the Saclay-Lyon, Kaon-MAID, Adelseck-Saghai, and Williams-Ji-Cotanch models for the elementary amplitudes and various nuclear and hypernuclear wave functions. The elementary amplitudes are discussed in detail presenting their basic properties and comparison with data. The unique features of the electro-magnetic production of Lambda-hypernuclei shown on examples are the slective excitation of unnatural parity highest-spin states (natural parity ones for the LS-closed targets) and a possibilty to investigate the Lambda single-particle energies including a spin-orbit splitting using variety of medium-mass targets.

Two-flavor lattice QCD simulation in the epsilon-regime with exact chiral symmetry

We perform lattice simulations of two-flavor QCD using Neuberger's overlap fermion, with which the exact chiral symmetry is realized at finite lattice spacings. The epsilon-regime is reached by decreasing the light quark mass down to 3 MeV on a 16^3 32 lattice with a lattice spacing \sim 0.11 fm. We find a good agreement of the low-lying Dirac eigenvalue spectrum with the analytical predictions of the chiral random matrix theory, which reduces to the chiral perturbation theory in the epsilon-regime. The chiral condensate is extracted as Σ(2 GeV) = (251(7)(11) MeV)^3, where the errors are statistical and an estimate of the higher order effects in the epsilon-expansion.

Dynamical overlap fermions in the epsilon-regime

We report on the two-flavor QCD simulation in the epsilon-regime using the overlap fermion formulation. Sea quark mass is reduced to ~ 2 MeV on a 16^3x32 lattice with the lattice spacing ~ 0.11fm. Topological charge is fixed at Q=0. We compare the eigenvalue distribution of the overlap-Dirac operator with the prediction of the chiral random matrix theory. Preliminary results on meson correlators are also reported.

Topology conserving gauge action and the overlap-Dirac operator

We apply the topology conserving gauge action proposed by Luescher to the four-dimensional lattice QCD simulation in the quenched approximation. With this gauge action the topological charge is stabilized along the hybrid Monte Carlo updates compared to the standard Wilson gauge action. The quark potential and renormalized coupling constant are in good agreement with the results obtained with the Wilson gauge action. We also investigate the low-lying eigenvalue distribution of the hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator, which is relevant for the construction of the overlap-Dirac operator.

Parameter dependence of the topology change and the scaling properties of the topology conserving gauge action

The topology conserving gauge action proposed by Luescher is expected to reduce the number of non-smooth gauge configurations as well as the topology change compared to the conventional actions for the same lattice spacings. We report our quenched QCD study of the topological stability and the scaling violation of the static quark potential. We find that the the topology change is indeed suppressed when the parameter epsilon is of order one. We also find that the scaling violation in the static quark potential remain reasonably small in the parameter range of our study. Our study is done at the inverse lattice spacing a^{-1}=1.4-2.5 GeV with the lattice size L=1.0-1.6fm.

Energy Centroids in the presence of random interactions

In this paper we study energy centroids such as those with fixed spin and isospin, those with fixed irreducible representations for bosons, in the presence of random two-body and/or three-body interactions. Our results show that regularities of energy centroids of fixed spin states reported in earlier works are more robust than expected.

Overlap fermion with the topology conserving gauge action

We investigate the distribution of low-lying eigenmodes of hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator, $H_W$, with the gauge action whose form is designed to avoid topology change, as well as with the standard plaquette action. On the quenched lattices, the former gauge action exhibits less density of low-lying eigenmodes of $H_W$ compared to the latter at the same lattice spacing. We also show preliminary results for the dynamical simulation with two flavors of overlap fermions.

Energy Centroids of Spin $I$ States by Random Two-body Interactions

In this paper we study the behavior of energy centroids (denoted as $\bar{E_I}$) of spin $I$ states in the presence of random two-body interactions, for systems ranging from very simple systems (e.g. single-$j$ shell for very small $j$) to very complicated systems (e.g., many-$j$ shells with different parities and with isospin degree of freedom). Regularities of $\bar{E_I}$'s discussed in terms of the so-called geometric chaoticity (or quasi-randomness of two-body coefficients of fractional parentage) in earlier works are found to hold even for very simple systems in which one cannot assume the geometric chaoticity. It is shown that the inclusion of isospin and parity does not "break" the regularities of $\bar{E_I}$'s.

Patterns of the ground states in the presence of random interactions: nucleon systems

We present our results on properties of ground states for nucleonic systems in the presence of random two-body interactions. In particular we present probability distributions for parity, seniority, spectroscopic (i.e., in the laboratory framework) quadrupole moments and $α$ clustering in the ground states. We find that the probability distribution for the parity of the ground states obtained by a two-body random ensemble simulates that of realistic nuclei: positive parity is dominant in the ground states of even-even nuclei while for odd-odd nuclei and odd-mass nuclei we obtain with almost equal probability ground states with positive and negative parity. In addition we find that for the ground states, assuming pure random interactions, low seniority is not favored, no dominance of positive values of spectroscopic quadrupole deformation, and no sign of $α$-cluster correlations, all in sharp contrast to realistic nuclei. Considering a mixture of a random and a realistic interaction, we observe a second order phase transition for the $α$-cluster correlation probability.

Seniority isomerism in proton-rich N=82 isotones and its indication to stiffness of the Z=64 core

The $10^+$ and $27/2^-$ isomers of the $Z>64$, $N=82$ nuclei are investigated in the shell model framework. We derive an extended seniority reduction formula for the relevant $E2$ transition strengths. Based on the extended formula, as well as on the approximate degeneracy among the $0h_{11/2}$, $2s_{1/2}$ and $1d_{3/2}$ orbits, we argue that the $B(E2)$ data require the $^{146}$Gd core excitation. The energy levels of both parities and the $B(E2)$ values are simultaneously reproduced by a multi-$j$ shell model calculation with the MSDI, if the excitations from $(0g_{7/2}1d_{5/2})$ to $(0h_{11/2}2s_{1/2}1d_{3/2})$ are taken into account.

Thomas-Ehrman shifts in nuclei around ^{16}O and role of residual nuclear interaction

The asymmetry in the energy spectra between mirror nuclei (the Thomas-Ehrman shifts) around $^{16}$O is investigated from a phenomenological viewpoint. The recent data on proton-rich nuclei indicates that the residual nuclear interaction is reduced for the loosely bound s-orbit by as much as 30%, which originates in the broad radial distribution of the proton single-particle wave function.
