On Equitable Coloring Parameters of Certain Cycle Related Graphs

Coloring the vertices of a graph G subject to given conditions can be considered as a random experiment and corresponding to this experiment, a discrete random variable X can be defined as the colour of a vertex chosen at random, with respect to the given type of colouring of G and a probability mass function for this random variable can be defined accordingly. A proper coloring C of a graph G, which assigns colors to the vertices of G such that the numbers of vertices in any two colour classes differ by at most one, is called an equitable colouring of G. In this paper, we study two statistical parameters of certain cycle related graphs, with respect to their equitable colorings.

On Certain Colouring Parameters of Mycielski Graphs of Some Graphs

Colouring the vertices of a graph $G$ according to certain conditions can be considered as a random experiment and a discrete random variable $X$ can be defined as the number of vertices having a particular colour in the proper colouring of $G$. The concepts of mean and variance, two important statistical measures, have also been introduced to the theory of graph colouring and determined the values of these parameters for a number of standard graphs. In this paper, we discuss the colouring parameters of the Mycielskian of certain standard graphs.

Some Results on the $b$-Colouring Parameters of Graphs

A vertex colouring of a given graph $G$ can be considered as a random experiment. A discrete random variable $X$, corresponding to this random experiment, can be defined as the colour of a randomly chosen vertex of $G$ and a probability mass function for this random variable can be defined accordingly. In this paper, we study the concepts of mean and variance corresponding to the $b$-colouring of $G$ and hence determine the values of these parameters for a number of standard graphs.

Jaco-Type Graphs and Black Energy Dissipation

In this paper, we introduce the notion of an energy graph as a simple, directed and vertex labeled graph $G$ such that the arcs $(v_i, v_j) \notin A(G)$ if $i > j$ for all distinct pairs $v_i,v_j$ and at least one vertex $v_k$ exists such that $d^-(v_k)=0$. Initially, equal amount of potential energy is allocated to certain vertices. Then, at a point of time these vertices transform the potential energy into kinetic energy and initiate transmission to head vertices. Upon reaching a head vertex, perfect elastic collisions with atomic particles take place and propagate energy further. Propagation rules apply which result in energy dissipation. This dissipated energy is called black energy. The notion of the black arc number of a graph is also introduced in this paper. Mainly Jaco-type graphs are considered for the application of the new concepts.

Some New Results on the Curling Number of Graphs

Let $S=S_1S_2S_3\ldots S_n$ be a finite string. Write $S$ in the form $XYY\ldots Y=XY^k$, consisting of a prefix $X$ (which may be empty), followed by $k$ copies of a non-empty string $Y$. Then, the greatest value of this integer $k$ is called the curling number of $S$ and is denoted by $cn(S)$. Let the degree sequence of the graph $G$ be written as a string of identity curling subsequences say, $X^{k_1}_1\circ X^{k_2}_2\circ X^{k_3}_3 \ldots \circ X^{k_l}_l$. The compound curling number of $G$, denoted $cn^c(G)$ is defined to be, $cn^n(G) = \prod\limits^{l}_{i=1}k_i$. In this paper, we discuss the curling number and compound curling number of certain products of graphs.

On the Vertex In-Degrees of Certain Jaco-Type Graphs

The concepts of linear Jaco graphs and Jaco-type graphs have been introduced as certain types of directed graphs with specifically defined adjacency conditions. The distinct difference between a pure Jaco graph and a Jaco-type graph is that for a pure Jaco graph, the total vertex degree $d(v)$ is well-defined, while for a Jaco-type graph the vertex out-degree $d^+(v)$ is well-defined. Hence, in the case of pure Jaco graphs a challenge is to determine $d^-(v)$ and $d^+(v)$ respectively and for Jaco-type graphs a challenge is to determine $d^-(v)$. In this paper, the vertex in-degrees for Fibonaccian and modular Jaco-type graphs are determined.

A study on the curling number of graph classes

Given a finite nonempty sequence $S$ of integers, write it as $XY^k$, consisting of a prefix $X$ (which may possibly be empty), followed by $k$ copies of a non-empty string $Y$. Then, the greatest such integer $k$ is called the curling number of $S$ and is denoted by $cn(S)$. The concept of curling number of sequences has already been extended to the degree sequences of graphs to define the curling number of a graph. In this paper we study the curling number of graph powers, graph products and certain other graph operations.

Certain Chromatic Sums of Some Cycle Related Graph Classes

Let $\mathcal{C} = \{c_1,c_2, c_3, \ldots,c_k\}$ be a certain type of proper $k$-colouring of a given graph $G$ and $θ(c_i)$ denote the number of times a particular colour $c_i$ is assigned to the vertices of $G$. Then, the colouring sum of a given graph $G$ with respect to the colouring $\cC$, denoted by $ω_{\cC}(G)$, is defined to be $ω(\cC) = \sum\limits_{i=1}^{k}i\,θ(c_i)$. The colouring sums such as $χ$-chromatic sum, $χ^+$-chromatic sum, $b$-chromatic sum, $b^+$-chromatic sum etc. are some of these types of colouring sums that have been studied recently. Motivated by these studies on certain chromatic sums of graphs, in this paper, we study certain chromatic sums for some standard cycle related graphs.

Curling Numbers of Certain Graph Powers

Given a finite nonempty sequence $S$ of integers, write it as $XY^k$, where $Y^k$ is a power of greatest exponent that is a suffix of $S$: this $k$ is the curling number of $S$. The concept of curling number of sequences has already been extended to the degree sequences of graphs to define the curling number of a graph. In this paper we study the curling number of graph powers, graph products and certain other graph operations.

On the Pythagorean Holes of Certain Graphs

A \emph{primitive hole} of a graph $G$ is a cycle of length 3 in $G$. The number of primitive holes in a given graph $G$ is called the primitive hole number of the graph $G$. The primitive degree of a vertex $v$ of a given graph $G$ is the number of primitive holes incident on the vertex $v$. In this paper, we introduce the notion of Pythagorean holes of graphs and initiate some interesting results on Pythagorean holes in general as well as results in respect of set-graphs and Jaco graphs.

A Study on Edge-Set Graphs of Certain Graphs

Let $G(V, E)$ be a simple connected graph, with $|E| = \epsilon.$ In this paper, we define an edge-set graph $\mathcal G_G$ constructed from the graph $G$ such that any vertex $v_{s,i}$ of $\mathcal G_G$ corresponds to the $i$-th $s$-element subset of $E(G)$ and any two vertices $v_{s,i}, v_{k,m}$ of $\mathcal G_G$ are adjacent if and only if there is at least one edge in the edge-subset corresponding to $v_{s,i}$ which is adjacent to at least one edge in the edge-subset corresponding to $v_{k,m}$ where $s,k$ are positive integers. It can be noted that the edge-set graph $\mathcal G_G$ of a graph $G$ id dependent on both the structure of $G$ as well as the number of edges $\epsilon.$ We also discuss the characteristics and properties of the edge-set graphs corresponding to certain standard graphs.

On Integer Additive Set-Filtered Graphs

Let $\mathbb{N}_0$ denote the set of all non-negative integers and $\mathcal{P}(\mathbb{N}_0)$ be its power set. An integer additive set-labeling (IASL) of a graph $G$ is an injective function $f:V(G)\to \mathcal{P}(\mathbb{N}_0)$ such that the induced function $f^+:E(G) \to \mathcal{P}(\mathbb{N}_0)$ is defined by $f^+ (uv) = f(u)+ f(v)$, where $f(u)+f(v)$ is the sumset of $f(u)$ and $f(v)$. In this paper, we introduce the notion of a particular type of integer additive set-indexers called integer additive set-filtered labeling of given graphs and study their characteristics.

The Sparing Number of Certain Graph Powers

An integer additive set-indexer is defined as an injective function $f:V(G)\rightarrow 2^{\mathbb{N}_0}$ such that the induced function $g_f:E(G) \rightarrow 2^{\mathbb{N}_0}$ defined by $g_f (uv) = f(u)+ f(v)$ is also injective. An IASI $f$ is said to be a weak IASI if $|g_f(uv)|=max(|f(u)|,|f(v)|)$ for all $u,v\in V(G)$. A graph which admits a weak IASI may be called a weak IASI graph. The set-indexing number of an element of a graph $G$, a vertex or an edge, is the cardinality of its set-labels. The sparing number of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of edges with singleton set-labels, required for a graph $G$ to admit a weak IASI. In this paper, we study the admissibility of weak IASI by certain graph powers and their sparing numbers.

Topological Integer Additive Set-Graceful Graphs

Let $\mathbb{N}_0$ denote the set of all non-negative integers and $X$ be any subset of $X$. Also denote the power set of $X$ by $\mathcal{P}(X)$. An integer additive set-labeling (IASL) of a graph $G$ is an injective function $f:V(G)\to \mathcal{P}(X)$ such that the induced function $f^+:E(G) \to \mathcal{P}(X)$ is defined by $f^+ (uv) = f(u)+ f(v)$, where $f(u)+f(v)$ is the sumset of $f(u)$ and $f(v)$. An IASL $f$ is said to be a topological IASL (Top-IASL) if $f(V(G))\cup \{\emptyset\}$ is a topology of the ground set $X$. An IASL is said to be an integer additive set-graceful labeling (IASGL) if for the induced edge-function $f^+$, $f^+(E(G))= \mathcal{P}(X)-\{\emptyset, \{0\}\}$. In this paper, we study certain types of IASL of a given graph $G$, which is a topological integer additive set-labeling as well as an integer additive set-graceful labeling of $G$.

On the Sparing Number of the Edge-Corona of Graphs

Let $\mathbb{N}_0$ be the set of all non-negative integers and $\mathcal{P}(\mathbb{N}_0)$ be its the power set. An integer additive set-indexer (IASI) of a graph $G$ is an injective function $f:V(G)\to \mathcal{P}(\mathbb{N}_0)$ such that the induced function $f^+:E(G) \to \mathcal{P}(\mathbb{N}_0)$ defined by $f^+ (uv) = f(u)+ f(v)$ is also injective, where $f(u)+f(v)$ is the sum set of $f(u)$ and $f(v)$. An integer additive set-indexer $f$ is said to be a weak integer additive set-indexer (weak IASI) if $|f^+(uv)|=\max(|f(u)|,|f(v)|)~\forall ~ uv\in E(G)$. The minimum number of singleton set-labeled edges required for the graph $G$ to admit an IASI is called the sparing number of the graph. In this paper, we discuss the admissibility of weak IASI by a particular type of graph product called the edge corona of two given graphs and determine the sparing number of the edge corona of certain graphs.

Strong Integer Additive Set-valued Graphs: A Creative Review

For a non-empty ground set $X$, finite or infinite, the {\em set-valuation} or {\em set-labeling} of a given graph $G$ is an injective function $f:V(G) \to \mathcal{P}(X)$, where $\mathcal{P}(X)$ is the power set of the set $X$. A set-indexer of a graph $G$ is an injective set-valued function $f:V(G) \to \mathcal{P}(X)$ such that the function $f^{\ast}:E(G)\to \mathcal{P}(X)-\{\emptyset\}$ defined by $f^{\ast}(uv) = f(u){\ast} f(v)$ for every $uv{\in} E(G)$ is also injective., where $\ast$ is a binary operation on sets. An integer additive set-indexer is defined as an injective function $f:V(G)\to \mathcal{P}({\mathbb{N}_0})$ such that the induced function $g_f:E(G) \to \mathcal{P}(\mathbb{N}_0)$ defined by $g_f (uv) = f(u)+ f(v)$ is also injective, where $\mathbb{N}_0$ is the set of all non-negative integers and $\mathcal{P}(\mathbb{N}_0)$ is its power set. An IASI $f$ is said to be a strong IASI if $|f^+(uv)|=|f(u)|\,|f(v)|$ for every pair of adjacent vertices $u,v$ in $G$. In this paper, we critically and creatively review the concepts and properties of strong integer additive set-valued graphs.

A Study on Set-Graphs

A \textit{primitive hole} of a graph $G$ is a cycle of length $3$ in $G$. The number of primitive holes in a given graph $G$ is called the primitive hole number of that graph $G$. The primitive degree of a vertex $v$ of a given graph $G$ is the number of primitive holes incident on the vertex $v$. In this paper, we introduce the notion of set-graphs and study the properties and characteristics of set-graphs. We also check the primitive hole number and primitive degree of set-graphs. Interesting introductory results on the nature of order of set-graphs, degree of the vertices corresponding to subsets of equal cardinality, the number of largest complete subgraphs in a set-graph etc. are discussed in this study. A recursive formula to determine the primitive hole number of a set-graph is also derived in this paper.
