On wide-angle photo- and electroproduction of pions to twist-3 accuracy

The wide-angle photo- and electroproduction of pions is investigated within the handbag mechanism in which the $γ^{(*)} N\to πN'$ amplitudes factorize into subprocess amplitudes,$γ^{(*)} q\to πq'$, and form factors representing $1/x$-moments of generalized parton distributions (GPDs). The subprocess is calculated to twist-3 accuracy taking into account both the 2- and 3-body Fock components of the pion. The cross-sections are compared to experiment and spin-effects are discussed.

Probing Generalized Parton Distributions through the photoproduction of a $γπ$ pair

We study in the framework of collinear QCD factorization the photoproduction of a $γ\,π$ pair with a large invariant mass and a small transverse momentum, as a new way to access generalized parton distributions. In the kinematics of JLab 12-GeV, we demonstrate the feasibility of this measurement and show the extreme sensitivity of the unpolarized cross section to the axial quark GPDs.

Probing axial quark generalized parton distributions through exclusive photoproduction of a $γ\,π^\pm$ pair with a large invariant mass

Exclusive photoproduction of a $γ\,π^\pm$ pair in the kinematics where the pair has a large invariant mass and the final nucleon has a small transverse momentum is described in the collinear factorization framework. The scattering amplitude is calculated at leading order in $α_s$ and the differential cross sections for the process are estimated in the kinematics of the JLab~12-GeV experiments. The order of magnitude of the predicted cross-sections seems sufficient for a dedicated experiment to be performed. The process turns out to be very sensitive to the axial generalized parton distribution combination $\tilde{H}_u - \tilde{H}_d$.

Next-to-leading order corrections to deeply virtual production of pseudoscalar mesons

We complete the perturbative next-to-leading order corrections to the hard scattering amplitudes of deeply virtual meson leptoproduction processes at leading twist-two level by presenting the results for the production of flavor singlet pseudoscalar mesons. The new results are given in the common momentum fraction representation and in terms of conformal moments. We also comment on the flavor singlet results for deeply virtual vector meson production.

Fitting DVCS at NLO and beyond

We outline the twist-two analysis of deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS)within the conformal partial wave expansion of the amplitude, represented as a Mellin--Barnes integral. The complete next-to-leading order results, including evolution, are obtained in the MS and a conformal factorization scheme. Within the latter, exploiting conformal symmetry, the radiative corrections are evaluated up to next-to-next-to-leading order. Using a new proposed parameterization for GPDs, we study the convergence of perturbation theory and demonstrate for H1 and ZEUS measurements that our formalism is suitable for a fitting procedure of DVCS observables. We comment on a recent claim of a breakdown of collinear factorization and show that a Regge-inspired Q^2 scaling law is ruled out by small x_Bj DVCS data.

Pion structure: from nonlocal condensates to NLO analytic perturbation theory

A pion distribution amplitude, derived from nonlocal QCD sum rules, has been employed to calculate $F_{γ^*γ\toπ}(Q^2)$ using light-cone sum rules, and $F_π(Q^2)$ in NLO QCD perturbation theory. Predictions are presented for both observables and found to be in good agreement with the corresponding data. Calculating the hard pion form factor by Analytic Perturbation Theory to two-loop order, it is shown that the renormalization-scheme and scale-setting dependencies are diminished.

Pion form factor in QCD: From nonlocal condensates to NLO analytic perturbation theory

We present an investigation of the pion's electromagnetic form factor F_π(Q^2) in the spacelike region utilizing two new ingredients: (i) a double-humped, endpoint-suppressed pion distribution amplitude derived before via QCD sum rules with nonlocal condensates--found to comply at the 1σlevel with the CLEO data on the $πγ$ transition--and (ii) analytic perturbation theory at the level of parton amplitudes for hadronic reactions. The computation of F_π(Q^2) within this approach is performed at NLO of QCD perturbation theory (standard and analytic), including the evolution of the pion distribution amplitude at the same order. We consider the NLO corrections to the form factor in the \bar{MS} scheme with various renormalization scale settings and also in the α_V-scheme. We find that using standard perturbation theory, the size of the NLO corrections is quite sensitive to the adopted renormalization scheme and scale setting. The main results of our analysis are the following: (i) Replacing the QCD coupling and its powers by their analytic images, both dependencies are diminished and the predictions for the pion form factor are quasi scheme and scale-setting independent. (ii) The magnitude of the factorized pion form factor, calculated with the aforementioned pion distribution amplitude, is only slightly larger than the result obtained with the asymptotic one in all considered schemes. (iii) Including the soft pion form factor via local duality and ensuring the Ward identity at Q^2=0, we present predictions that are in remarkably good agreement with the existing experimental data both in trend and magnitude.
