Shell-Model Calculations for_Λ^{16}O and_Λ^{17}O Using Microscopic Effective Interactions with ΣDegrees of Freedom

Shell-model calculations in a large model space are performed for _Λ^{16}O and_Λ^{17}O. Effective interactions with degrees of freedom of Σin addition to Λand nucleons are derived from hyperon-nucleon and nucleon-nucleon interactions within the framework of the unitary-model-operator approach. Effects of the Σdegrees of freedom and the parity-mixing intershell coupling on the Λhypernuclear structure are investigated, employing the Nijmegen NSC97a-f and NSC89 hyperon-nucleon potentials.

Diffractive $ϕ$ Production in a Perturbative QCD Model

The elastic leptoproduction of $ϕ$ measured by the H1 collaboration at HERA is described by a perturbative QCD model, based on open $s\bar{s}$ production and parton hadron duality, proposed by Martin et al. We observe that both the total cross section and the ratio of the longitudinal and transverse cross sections are well reproduced with an effective strange-quark mass $m_s \sim 320- 380 $ MeV for various gluon distribution functions. Possible connection of the effective mass and the momentum dependent dynamical mass associated with dynamical breaking of chiral symmetry is also discussed.

Validity of the Color Dipole Approximation for Diffractive Production of Heavy Quarkonium

We study the diffractive photo- and leptoproductions of $J / ψ$ and $ψ'$ on the proton, and examine the validity of the small-size color dipole approximation to the production of radially excited heavy quarkonium. The dipole model predicts a small ratio of $ψ'$ to $J / ψ$ photoproduction cross sections, which does not agree with experimental data. We show that this discrepancy originates from a large transverse size of $ψ'$ which makes the convergence of the transverse size expansion questionable, and the calculation without the dipole approximation turns out to be consistent with the data. Productions of $Υ'(2S,3S)$ are also discussed, and the dipole approximation is found to be reasonable for the $Υ$-family.

Three-Body-Cluster Effects on Lambda Single-Particle Energies in _{Lambda}^{17}O and_{Lambda}^{41}Ca

A method for a microscopic description of Lambda hypernuclei is formulated in the framework of the unitary-model-operator approach. A unitarily transformed hamiltonian is introduced and given in a cluster expansion form. The structure of three-body-cluster terms are discussed especially on the Lambda single-particle energy. The Lambda single-particle energies including the three-body-cluster contributions are calculated for the 0s_{1/2}, 0p_{3/2} and 0p_{1/2} states in_{Lambda}^{17}O, and for the 0s_{1/2}, 0p_{3/2}, 0p_{1/2}, 0d_{5/2}, 0d_{3/2} and 1s_{1/2} states in_{Lambda}^{41}Ca, using the Nijmegen soft-core (NSC), NSC97a-f, the Juelich A (J A) and J B hyperon-nucleon interactions. It is indicated that the three-body-cluster terms bring about sizable effects in the magnitudes of the Lambda single-particle energies, but hardly affect the Lambda spin-orbit splittings.

T-odd quark fragmentation function and transverse spin asymmetries in the pion production

We study the time-reversal odd quark fragmentation function and its consequences on the hard processes. T-odd quark fragmentation function may arise, although QCD is T-invariant, from the non-perturbative dynamics in the fragmentation process. Assuming the factorization, we extract the T-odd fragmentation function from the inclusive pion production in the transversely polarized proton-proton collision. We then estimate the single spin asymmetry $A_{OT}$ of the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering with unpolarized lepton and the transversely polarized proton. We also discuss the meson cloud effects on the transversity distribution $h_1(x)$ of the nucleon. Asymmetry for the $π^-$ production is found to be much smaller than the naive expectation, since the $d$-quark transversity is considerably suppressed by the pion cloud effects

Roles of quark-pair correlations in baryon structure and non-leptonic weak transitions of hyperon

Roles of quark-pair correlations in the baryon structure and the hyperon non-leptonic weak decay are studied within the non-relativistic constituent quark model. We construct the SU(3) ground state baryons by solving the three body problem rigorously with the confinement force and the short range spin-dependent attraction. We emphasize the importance of the $s=0$ quark-quark correlation to reproduce the $ΔI=1/2$ enhancement of the hyperon decay, and demonstrate that resulting static properties as well as the decay amplitudes agree with the experiments, if we deal with the $s=0$ correlation properly. Special attention is also put on the consequences of the SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry breaking due to the $s=0$ correlation. Calculated magnetic moments are the almost same as the naive SU(6) predictions in spite of the existence of the strong correlations.

Exact Treatment of the Pauli Exclusion Operator in Nuclear Matter Calculation

Exact expressions of the Pauli exclusion operator Q in the nuclear matter calculation are presented in detail. Exact formulae are also given for the calculations of the single-particle-potential energy and the binding energy per nucleon with the exact Q operator. Numerical calculations of the G matrix in the lowest-order Brueckner theory are carried out to check the reliability of the standard angle-average approximation for the Q operator by employing the Bonn B and C NN potentials. It is observed that the exact treatment of the operator Q brings about non-negligible and attractive contributions to the binding energy.

Constituent quark model for baryons with strong quark-pair correlations and non-leptonic weak transitions of hyperon

We study the roles of quark-pair correlations for baryon properties, in particular on non-leptonic weak decay of hyperons. We construct the quark wave function of baryons by solving the three body problem explicitly with confinement force and the short range attraction for a pair of quarks with their total spin being 0. We show that the existence of the strong quark-quark correlations enhances the non-leptonic transition amplitudes which is consistent with the data, while the baryon masses and radii are kept to the experiment.

Multiresolution approximation of the vector fields on T^3

Multiresolution approximation (MRA) of the vector fields on T^3 is studied. We introduced in the Fourier space a triad of vector fields called helical vectors which derived from the spherical coordinate system basis. Utilizing the helical vectors, we proved the orthogonal decomposition of L^2(T^3) which is a synthesis of the Hodge decomposition of the differential 1- or 2-form on T^3 and the Beltrami decomposition that decompose the space of solenoidal vector fields into the eigenspaces of curl operator. In the course of proof, a general construction procedure of the divergence-free orthonormal complete basis from the basis of scalar function space is presented. Applying this procedure to MRA of L^2(T^3), we discussed the MRA of vector fields on T^3 and the analyticity and regularity of vector wavelets. It is conjectured that the solenoidal wavelet basis must break r-regular condition, i.e. some wavelet functions cannot be rapidly decreasing function because of the inevitable singularities of helical vectors. The localization property and spatial structure of solenoidal wavelets derived from the Littlewood-Paley type MRA (Meyer's wavelet) are also investigated numerically.

Unitary-model-operator approach to $Λ$ hypernuclei

A method is formulated for the description of lambda hypernuclei in the framework of the unitary-model-operator approach (UMOA). The method is applied to $_Λ^{17}$O. A lambda-nucleon effective interaction is derived, taking the coupling of the sigma-nucleon channel into account. The lambda single-particle energies are calculated for the 0s_{1/2}, 0p_{3/2} and 0p_{1/2} states employing the Nijmegen soft-core (NSC), Jülich model-Ã (JÃ) and model-B (JB) hyperon-nucleon potentials.

The monitoring system for the aerogel Cherenkov counter of the BELLE detector

We report on a design and performances of a monitoring system developed for the aerogel Cherenkov counters (ACC) of the BELLE detector. The system consists of blue LEDs, a diffuser box, and optical distributors which distribute the LED light to the ACC modules. The employed LED (NSPB series) has been observed to have high reliability on the long term stability and the temprature dependence. The diffuser box is employed to reduce the intrinsic non-uniformity of the LED light intensity. The overall performances of the present monitoring system on uniformity and intensity of the light output have been found to satisfy all the requirements for the monitoring.

Chiral Constituent quarks and their role in quark distribution functions of nucleon and pion

We investigate the structure of constituent quarks and study implications for quark distribution functions of hadrons. Constituent quarks are constructed by dressing bare quarks with Goldstone bosons using the chiral quark model. We calculate resulting corrections to the twist-2 structure functions $f_1(x)$, $g_1(x)$ and $h_1(x)$. The Goldstone boson fluctuations produce a flavor asymmetry of the quark distribution in the nucleon in agreement with experimental data. They also generate significant depolarization effects which reduce the fraction of the nucleon spin carried by quarks. Corrections to the transversity spin structure function $h_1(x)$ differ from those to $g_1(x)$, and in particular we find a large reduction (40%) of the $d$-quark tensor charge, which is consistent with recent lattice calculations. We also study the pion structure function and find the momentum fraction carried by the sea quarks in the pion to be considerably larger than that in the nucleon.

Chiral-odd transversity spin structure function $h_1(x)$ of the nucleon in a constituent quark model

We study the chiral-odd transversity spin-dependent quark distribution function $h_1 (x)$ of the nucleon in a constituent quark model. The twist-2 structure functions, $f_1(x)$, $g_1(x)$ and $h_1(x)$ are calculated within the diquark spectator approximation. Whereas an inequality $f_1(x) > h_1(x) > g_1(x)$ holds with the interaction between quark and diquark being scalar, the axial-vector effective quark-diquark interaction, which contributes to the $d$-quark distribution, does not lead to such a simple relation. We find that $h_1(x)$ for the $d$-quark becomes somewhat smaller than $g_1^d (x)$, when we fix the model parameter to reproduce known other structure functions. We also include corrections due to the non-trivial structure of the constituent quark, which is modeled by the Goldstone boson dressing. This improves agreements of $f_1(x)$ and $g_1(x)$ with experiments, and brings further reduction of $h_1^d(x)$ distribution. Consequences for semi-inclusive experiments are also discussed.

Structure of the constituent quark and quark distributions of hadrons

We study the structure of constituent quarks by dressing bare quarks with the Goldstone bosons and its implications for quark distribution functions of hadrons $f_1(x)$, $g_1(x)$ and $h_1(x)$. In particular we discuss effects of the dressing on the nucleon spin structure, and find that contributions to chiral-odd $h_1(x)$ is quite different from those to $g_1 (x)$, which can be measured in the semi-inclusive polarized deep inelastic scattering.

Measurement of B(D_s+ -> mu+ nu_mu)/B(D_s+ -> phi mu+ nu_mu) and Determination of the Decay Constant f_{D_s}

We have observed $23.2 \pm 6.0_{-0.9}^{+1.0}$ purely-leptonic decays of $D_s^+ -> μ^+ ν_μ$ from a sample of muonic one prong decay events detected in the emulsion target of Fermilab experiment E653. Using the $D_s^+ -> ϕμ^+ ν_μ$ yield measured previously in this experiment, we obtain $B(D_s^+ --> μ^+ ν_μ) / B(D_s^+ --> ϕμ^+ ν_μ) =0.16 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.03$. In addition, we extract the decay constant $f_{D_s}=194 \pm 35 \pm 20 \pm 14 MeV$.

Pion Structure Function in the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model

The pion structure function is studied in the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. We calculate the forward scattering amplitude of a virtual photon from a pion target in the Bjorken limit, and obtain valence quark distributions of the pion at the low energy hadronic scale, where the NJL model is supposed to work. The calculated distribution functions are evolved to the experimental momentum scale using the Altarelli-Parisi equation. The resulting distributions are in a reasonable agreement with experiment. We calculate also the kaon structure function and compare the ratio of kaon to pion valence u-quark distributions with experiment.

Meson Structure in Deep Inelastic Scattering

We study the deep inelastic structure functions of mesons within the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model. We calculate the valence quark distributions in $π$, $K $, and $ρ$ mesons at the low energy model scale, which are evoluted to the experimental momentum scale in terms of the Altarelli-Parisi equation. The resulting distribution functions show reasonable agreements with experiment. We also discuss the semi-inclusive lepton nucleon scattering process with a slow nucleon in coincidence in the final state, which reveals the off-shell structure of the pion.

Diquark Corrleations in the nucleon structure function

The nucleon structure functions are studied with a special emphasis on diquark correlations inside the nucleon. Assuming a phenomenological diquark-quark model of the nucleon at the low energy hadronic scale, we calculate the leading twist contributions to the nucleon structure functions. We take the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model for the calculation of the quark distributions in the diquarks, and use the convolution method for the diquark scattering process. The resulting quark distributions are evolved to the experimental momentum scale using the perturbative QCD. We discuss the flavor dependence of the nucleon structure functions and the importance of the quark-quark correlations for the understanding of the nucleon structure.
