Study of the suppressed B meson decay B^- -> D K^-, D -> K^+ π^-

We report a study of the suppressed B meson decay B^- -> D K^- followed by D -> K^+ π^-, where D indicates a D^0 or \bar{D}^0 state. The two decay paths interfere and provide information on the CP-violating angle ϕ_3. We use a data sample containing 657 x 10^6 B\bar{B} pairs recorded at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- storage ring. We do not find significant evidence for the mode B^- -> D K^-, D -> K^+ π^-, and set an upper limit of r_B < 0.19, where r_B is the magnitude of the ratio of amplitudes |A(B^- -> \bar{D}^0 K^-)/A(B^- -> D^0 K^-)|. The decay B^- -> D π^-, D -> K^+ π^- is also analyzed as a reference, for which we observe a signal with 6.6σsignificance, and measure the charge asymmetry A_{Dπ} to be -0.02^{+0.15}_{-0.16}(stat) \pm 0.04(syst). In addition, the ratio B(B^- -> D^0 K^-)/B(B^- -> D^0 π^-) is measured to be [6.77 \pm 0.23(stat) \pm 0.30(syst)] x 10^{-2}.

sBelle Design Study Report

In this note, we compile results of various simulation studies for the upgrade of the Belle detector. Based on these studies, we propose a set of optimum or appropriate parameters of the detector.

Measurements of time-dependent CP Asymmetries in $B \to D^{*\mp} π^{\pm}$ decays using a partial reconstruction technique

We report preliminary results on time-dependent CP asymmetries in $B \to D^{*\mp}π^{\pm}$ decays. The CP asymmetry in these decays is proportional to $2R_{D^{*} π} \sin (2ϕ_1 + ϕ_3 \pm δ_{D^{*} π})$, where $R_{D^{*} π}$ is the ratio of the magnitudes of the doubly-Cabibbo-suppressed and Cabibbo-favoured amplitudes, $δ_{D^{*} π}$ is the strong phase difference between them, and $ϕ_1$ and $ϕ_3$ are two angles of the CKM Unitarity Triangle. This study is based on a large data sample that contains 657 million $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance. We use a partial reconstruction technique, wherein signal $B \to D^{*\mp}π^{\pm}$ events are identified using information only from the $π^{\pm}$ from the $B$ decay and the charged slow pion from the subsequent decay of the $D^{*-}$. We obtain $S^+ (D^* π) = +0.057 \pm 0.019(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.012(\mathrm{sys})$ and $S^- (D^* π) = +0.038 \pm 0.020(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.010(\mathrm{sys})$.

Search for $B^0 \to J/ψϕ$

We report a search for the decay $B^0 \to J/ψϕ$, using a sample of 657 $\times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance. No statistically significant signal is found and an upper limit for the branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to J/ψϕ) < 9.4 \times 10^{-7}$ at 90% confidence level.

Measurements of time-dependent CP violation in B^0 -> psi(2S) K_S decays

We report improved measurements of time-dependent CP violation parameters for B^0(\bar{B}^0) -> psi(2S) K_S. This analysis is based on a data sample of 657x10^6 BBbar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. We fully reconstruct one neutral B meson in the psi(2S) K_S CP-eigenstate decay channel, and the flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified to be either B^0 or \bar{B}^0 from its decay products. CP violation parameters are obtained from the asymmetries in the distributions of the proper-time intervals between the two B decays: S (psi(2S) K_S) = +0.72 +/- 0.09(stat) +/- 0.03(syst), A (psi(2S) K_S) = +0.04 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.05(syst). These results are in agreement with results from measurements of B^0 -> J/psi K^0.

Averages of b-hadron Properties at the End of 2005

This article reports world averages for measurements on b-hadron properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group (HFAG) using the available results as of at the end of 2005. In the averaging, the input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and all known correlations are taken into account. The averages include lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays, branching fractions of B meson decays to final states with open charm, charmonium and no charm, and measurements related to CP asymmetries.
