Resummed photon spectrum from dark matter annihilation for intermediate and narrow energy resolution

The annihilation cross section of weakly interacting TeV scale dark matter particles $χ^0$ into photons is affected by large quantum corrections due to electroweak Sudakov logarithms and the Sommerfeld effect. We extend our previous work on the resummation of the semi-inclusive photon energy spectrum in $χ^0χ^0\to γ+X$ in the vicinity of the maximal photon energy $E_γ= m_χ$ with NLL' accuracy from the case of narrow photon energy resolution $E^γ_{\rm res}$ of order $m_W^2/m_χ$ to intermediate resolution of order $E^γ_{\rm res} \sim m_W$. We also provide details on the previous narrow resolution calculation. The two calculations, performed in different effective field theory set-ups for the wino dark matter model, are then shown to match well, providing an accurate representation up to energy resolutions of about 300 GeV.

Characterization of Silicon Drift Detectors with Electrons for the TRISTAN Project

Sterile neutrinos are a minimal extension of the Standard Model of Particle Physics. A promising model-independent way to search for sterile neutrinos is via high-precision beta spectroscopy. The Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino (KATRIN) experiment, equipped with a novel multi-pixel silicon drift detector focal plane array and read-out system, named the TRISTAN detector, has the potential to supersede the sensitivity of previous laboratory-based searches. In this work we present the characterization of the first silicon drift detector prototypes with electrons and we investigate the impact of uncertainties of the detector's response to electrons on the final sterile neutrino sensitivity.

On Wavelet-Galerkin methods for Semilinear Parabolic Equations with Additive Noise

We consider the semilinear stochastic heat equation perturbed by additive noise. After time-discretization by Euler's method the equation is split into a linear stochastic equation and a non-linear random evolution equation. The linear stochastic equation is discretized in space by a non-adaptive wavelet-Galerkin method. This equation is solved first and its solution is substituted into the nonlinear random evolution equation, which is solved by an adaptive wavelet method. We provide mean square estimates for the overall error.

Anomalous NMR response of quasicrystalline icosahedral A_{72.4}Pd_{20.5}Mn_{7.1} at low temperatures

We report the observation of an anomalous {27}Al-NMR response of a single grain Al_{72.4}Pd_{20.5}Mn_{7.1} icosahedral quasicrystal at low temperatures. In an external magnetic field of 6 T and upon decreasing temperature, we observe a sharp 100 % increase of the resonance linewidth at 2.5 K. No further changes of the linewidth are observed down to 0.05 K. The linewidth enhancement is accompanied by a small but distinct increase of the spin-lattice relaxation rate T_{1}^{-1} and by a maximum of the spin-spin relaxation time T_{2}(T). All these anomalies are absent in external fields of 2.5 T and below. Our observations indicate unusual variations in the stability of isolated magnetic moments in a quasiperiodic metallic environment.

Symmetric Versus Nonsymmetric Structure of the Phosphorus Vacancy on InP(110)

The atomic and electronic structure of positively charged P vacancies on InP(110) surfaces is determined by combining scanning tunneling microscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, and density-functional theory calculations. The vacancy exhibits a nonsymmetric rebonded atomic configuration with a charge transfer level 0.75+-0.1 eV above the valence band maximum. The scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) images show only a time average of two degenerate geometries, due to a thermal flip motion between the mirror configurations. This leads to an apparently symmetric STM image, although the ground state atomic structure is nonsymmetric.
