Branching fractions for chi_cJ -> p p-bar pi^0, p p-bar eta, and p p-bar omega

Using a sample of 25.9 million psi(2S) decays acquired with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR e^+e^- collider, we report branching fractions for the decays chi_cJ -> p p-bar pi^0, p p-bar eta, and p p-bar omega, with J=0,1,2. Our results for B(chi_cJ-> p p-bar pi^0) and B(chi_cJ-> p p-bar eta) are consistent with, but more precise than, previous measurements. Furthermore, we include the first measurement of B(chi_cJ-> p p-bar omega).

Analysis of D+ to K- pi+ e+ nu_e and D+ to K- pi+ mu+ nu_mu Semileptonic Decays

Using a large sample (~11800 events) of D^+ into K^- pi^+ e^+ nu_e and D^+ into K^- pi^+ mu^+ nu_mu decays collected by the CLEO-c detector running at the psi(3770), we measure the helicity basis form factors free from the assumptions of spectroscopic pole dominance and provide new, accurate measurements of the absolute branching fractions for D^+ into K^- pi^+ e^+ nu_e and D^+ into K^- pi^+ mu^+ nu_mu decays. We find branching fractions which are consistent with previous world averages. Our measured helicity basis form factors are consistent with the spectroscopic pole dominance predictions for the three main helicity basis form factors describing D^+ into anti-K*0 ell^+ nu_mu decay. The ability to analyze D^+ into K^- pi^+ mu^+ nu_mu allows us to make the first non-parametric measurements of the mass-suppressed form factor. Our result is inconsistent with existing Lattice QCD calculations. Finally, we measure the form factor that controls non-resonant s-wave interference with the D^+ into anti-K*0 ell^+ nu_mu amplitude and search for evidence of possible additional non-resonant d-wave or f-wave interference with the anti-K*0.

Measurement of the eta_b(1S) mass and the branching fraction for Upsilon(3S) --> gamma eta_b(1S)

We report evidence for the ground state of bottomonium, eta_b(1S), in the radiative decay Upsilon(3S) --> gamma eta_b in e^+e^- annihilation data taken with the CLEO III detector. Using 6 million Upsilon(3S) decays, and assuming Gamma(eta_b) = 10 MeV/c^2, we obtain B(Upsilon(3S) --> gamma eta_b) = (7.1 +- 1.8 +- 1.1) X 10^{-4}, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The statistical significance is about 4 sigma. The mass is determined to be M(eta_b) = 9391.8 +- 6.6 +- 2.0 MeV/c^2, which corresponds to the hyperfine splitting Delta M_{hf}(1S)_b = 68.5 +- 6.6 +- 2.0 MeV/c^2. Using 9 million Upsilon(2S) decays, we place an upper limit on the corresponding Y(2S) decay, B(Y(2S) --> gamma eta_b) < 8.4 X 10^{-4} at 90 % confidence level.

Search for Baryons in the Radiative Penguin Decay b--> s gamma

We have searched for the baryon-containing radiative penguin decays B^- -> Λp-bar γand B^- -> Σ^0 p-bar γ, using a sample of 9.7 million BBbar events collected at the Υ(4S) with the CLEO detector. We find no evidence for either, and set 90% confidence level upper limits for photons with B rest frame energy greater than 2.0 GeV of [Br(B^- -> Λp-bar γ) + 0.3 Br(B^- -> Σ^0 p-bar γ)] < 3.3 x 10^-6, [Br(B^- -> Σ^0 p-bar γ) + 0.4 Br(B^- -> Λp-bar γ)] < 6.4 x 10^-6. From the latter, we estimate (for photons with B rest frame energy greater than 2.0 GeV) Br(B -> X_s γ, X_s containing baryons) < 3.8 x 10^-5. This limit implies upper limits on corrections to CLEO's recent measurement of branching fraction, mean photon energy, and variance in photon energy from b -> s γthat are less than half the combined statistical and systematic errors quoted on these quantities.

Search for Lepton-Flavor-Violating Decays of B Mesons

We have searched a sample of 9.6 million BB-bar events for the lepton-flavor-violating decays B --> h e^{+-} mu^{-+}, B^+ --> h^- e^+ e^+, B^+ --> h^- e^+ mu^+, and B^+ --> h^- mu^+ mu^+, where h is pi, K, rho, and K*(892), a total of sixteen modes. We find no evidence for these decays, and place 90% confidence level upper limits on their branching fractions that range from 1.0 to 8.3 X 10^{-6}.

First Observation of barB0 to D*0 pi+pi+pi-pi- Decays

We report on the observation of B0bar -> D*0 pi+ pi+ pi- pi- decays. The branching ratio is (0.30 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.06)%. Interest in this particular mode was sparked by Ligeti, Luke and Wise who propose it as a way to check the validity of factorization tests in B0bar -> D*+ pi+ pi- pi- pi0 decays.

Study of B Decays to Charmonium States $B\to η_{c}K$ and $B\to χ_{C0}K$

In a sample of $9.66\times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs collected with the CLEO detector we make the first observation of B decays to an $η_c$ and a kaon. We measure branching fractions $BR(B^+\toη_c K^+) = (0.69 + 0.26 - 0.21 +- 0.08 +- 0.20)\times 10^{-3}$ and $BR(B^0\toη_c K^0) = (1.09 + 0.55 - 0.42 +- 0.12 +- 0.31)\times 10^{-3}$, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic and the third is from the $η_c$ branching fraction uncertainty. From these we extract the $η_c$ decay constant in the factorization approximation, $f_{η_c} = 335 +- 75$ MeV. We also search for B decays to a $χ_{c0}$ and a kaon. No evidence for a signal is found and we set 90% CL upper limits: $BR(B^+\toχ_{c0} K^+) < 4.8\times 10^{-4}$ and $BR(B^0\toχ_{c0} K^0) < 5.0\times 10^{-4}$.

Resonant Structure of $τ\to 3ππ^{0}ν_τ$ and $τ\to ωπν_τ$ Decays

The resonant structure of the four pion final state in the decay $τ\to 3ππ^0ν_τ$ is analyzed using 4.27 million $τ^+τ^-$ pairs collected by the CLEO II experiment. We search for second class currents in the decay $τ\to ωπν_τ$ using spin-parity analysis and establish an upper limit on the non-vector current contribution. The mass and width of the $ρ'$ resonance are extracted from a fit to the $τ\to ωπν_τ$ spectral function. A partial wave analysis of the resonant structure of the $τ\to 3ππ^0ν_τ$ decay is performed; the spectral decomposition of the four pion system is dominated by the $ωπ$ and $a_1 π$ final states.
