Decoupling Evidence Sources in Paraconsistent Logic: A Generalized PAL2v Framework for Educational Assessment

Paraconsistent Annotated Logic with two values (PAL2v) annotates a proposition with a pair $(μ,λ)$ of degrees of favorable and unfavorable evidence, drawn from a bilattice whose four extreme points are the values of Belnap and Dunn. In applications, however, the second coordinate is almost always taken to be the complement of the first, and several such annotations are then fused. We show that this practice determines the sign of the degree of contradiction in advance, independently of the data: for aggregation functions $F$ and $G$ the fused degree of contradiction equals $F-G^{d}$, where $G^{d}$ is the De Morgan dual of $G$, so that it vanishes identically when the two are dual, and has a constant sign otherwise. In particular the componentwise minimum used throughout the literature yields only consistent annotations, and the conjunction of annotated logic only exact ones; five of the twelve logical states, contradiction among them, are essentially unreachable by construction. We also give a decision procedure for the twelve states that is provably total, in place of the inequality lists in current use, which assign two states to about half of the non-extreme region. We then propose a construction in which the two coordinates are computed from disjoint families of evidence, show that every logical state is attainable. Educational assessment provides a natural instance, since summative and formative instruments are institutionally distinct: mapping examinations to $μ$ and disengagement to $λ$ makes the degree of contradiction equal to the gap between what a student demonstrates and what that student invests. Simulations over three cohort profiles illustrate the classification.

Marshall Quotients of the Rings $\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z$

We study the Marshall quotient \[ M(n)=M(\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z) \] obtained from the ring of integers modulo $n$ by quotienting by the square classes of non-zero-divisors. Using elementary arithmetic of square classes modulo prime powers and the Chinese Remainder Theorem, we give an explicit description of these quotients and classify several of their structural properties. We determine when the quotient relation is arithmetically elementary, when $M(n)$ is hyperbolic, when it can be real reduced, and when it can be formally real. We also analyze the subset of invertible classes together with zero, proving exactly when it is a submultiring, when it is a hyperfield, and when it is hyperbolic. The results provide a finite family of test examples for questions connecting multirings, special hyperfields, real semigroups, and abstract quadratic-form theory.

Generalized Marshall Quotients and Real Semigroups of Continuous and Differentiable Functions

The theory of real semigroups developed by M. Dickmann and A. Petrovich provides an algebraic framework for abstract real spectra and real algebraic geometry, yet its application to rings of continuous functions is historically hindered by the topological constraints. In this paper, we bridge this gap by introducing generalized Marshall quotients over rings of real-valued continuous and differentiable functions, yielding new explicitly calculated examples of real semigroups. Furthermore, we conclude that the group of invertible elements of these quotients constitutes a real reduced hyperfield (which is categorically equivalent to reduced special groups), addressing the open problem of characterizing when the units of a real semigroup form a reduced special group. Finally, we apply this hyperalgebraic machinery to translate topological and differential phenomena into hyperalgebraic identities, establishing generalized versions of the Łojasiewicz-type inequalities.

The Category of Hypergroups: seeking for a generalized version of Abelian Categories

In this paper we study categorical properties of the category of abelian hypergroups that leads to the notion of hyper (almost) preadditive and hyper (almost) abelian categories. Our goal is to create a path towards a general theory of homological algebra for hyper-algebras. This is a first attempt to achieve this goal. We hope to improve the definitions and results, and provide more examples soon.

The general Arason-Pfister Hauptsatz

In the present we develop a fragment of the theory of superfields, polynomials and Marshall's quotient in order to obtain for general special groups, a proof of the Arason-Pfister Hauptsatz (APH): "if $ϕ\neq \emptyset$ is an anisotropic form and $ϕ\in I^n(F)$ then $dim (ϕ) \geq 2^n$". In the process, we also obtain an alternative proof of APH for reduced special groups that avoid the uses of the invariants developed in \cite{dickmann2000special}. The applications of the full Arason-Pfister Hauptsatz leads to interesting properties of graded rings associated to special groups/hyperfields. \textbf{Keywords:} Arason-Pfister Hauptsatz; hyperfields; special groups; Milnor K-theory; graded rings.

The Galois group of a Special Group

In this ongoing work, we extend to a class of well-behaved pre-special hyperfields the work of J. Miná\v c and Spira (\cite{minac1996witt}) that describes a (pro-2)-group of a field extension that encodes the quadratic form theory of a given field $F$: in \cite{adem1999cohomology} it is shown that its associated cohomology ring contains a copy of the cohomology ring of the field $F$. Our construction, a contravariant functor into the category of "pointed" pro-2-groups, is essentially given by generators and relations of profinite-2-groups. We prove that such profinite groups $\mbox{Gal}(F)$ encode the space of orders of the special group canonically associated to the hyperfield $F$ and provide a criterion to detect when $F$ is formally real or not.

K-theories and Free Inductive Graded Rings in Abstract Quadratic Forms Theories

We build on previous work on multirings (\cite{roberto2021quadratic}) that provides generalizations of the available abstract quadratic forms theories (special groups and real semigroups) to the context of multirings (\cite{marshall2006real}, \cite{ribeiro2016functorial}). Here we raise one step in this generalization, introducing the concept of pre-special hyperfields and expand a fundamental tool in quadratic forms theory to the more general multivalued setting: the K-theory. We introduce and develop the K-theory of hyperbolic hyperfields that generalize simultaneously Milnor's K-theory (\cite{milnor1970algebraick}) and Special Groups K-theory, developed by Dickmann-Miraglia (\cite{dickmann2006algebraic}). We develop some properties of this generalized K-theory, that can be seen as a free inductive graded ring, a concept introduced in \cite{dickmann1998quadratic} in order to provide a solution of Marshall's Signature Conjecture.

Inductive graded rings, hyperfields and quadratic forms

The goal of this work is twofold: (i) to provide a detailed analysis of some categories of inductive graded ring - a concept introduced in [DM98] in order to provide a solution of Marshall's signature conjecture in the algebraic theory of quadratic forms; (ii) apply this analysis to deepen the connections between the category of special hyperfields ([dARM22]) - equivalent to the category of special groups ([DM00]) and the categories of inductive graded rings.

Linear Systems, Matrices and Vector Spaces over Superfields

Motivated by some recent developments in abstract theories of quadratic forms, we start to develop in this work an expansion of Linear Algebra to multivalued structures (a multialgebraic structure is essentially an algebraic structure but endowed with some multivalued operations). We introduce and study matrices and determinants over a commutative superrings (roughly, a ring where the sum and product are multivalued) and study linear systems and vector spaces over superfields. As an application, we obtain a fundamental result to the development of a theory of algebraic extensions of superfields.

On algebraic extensions and algebraic closures of superfields

Building over recent results, we expand the basic theory of algebraic extensions to the realm of superfields -a field with multivalued sum and product-, showing that every superfield has a (unique up to isomorphism) strong algebraic extension to a superfield that is algebraically closed. Moreover we show that every infinite algebraically closed superfield admits quantifier elimination procedure.

On superrings of polynomials and algebraically closed multifields

The concept of multialgebraic structure -- an "algebraic like" structure but endowed with multiple valued operations -- has been studied since the 1930's; in particular, the concept of hyperrings was introduced by Krasner in the 1950's. Some general algebraic study has been made on multialgebras: see for instance \cite{golzio2018brief} and \cite{pelea2006multialgebras}. More recently the notion of multiring have obtained more attention: a multiring is a lax hyperring, satisfying an weak distributive law, but hyperfields and multifields coincide. Multirings has been studied for applications in abstract quadratic forms theory (\cite{marshall2006real}, \cite{worytkiewiczwitt2020witt}) and tropical geometry (\cite{jun2015algebraic}); a more detailed account of variants of concept of polynomials over hyperrings is even more recent (\cite{jun2015algebraic}, \cite{ameri2019superring}). In the present work we start a model-theoretic oriented analysis of multialgebras introducing the class of algebraically closed and providing variant proof of quantifier elimination flavor, based on new results on superring of polynomials (\cite{ameri2019superring}).

Non Reduced Theory of Quadratic Forms Over Rings

Based on the works of M. Marshall on multirings, we propose the fundamentals for a \textbf{non reduced} abstract quadratic forms theory in general coefficients on rings, with the machinery of multirings and multifields.

Promiscuously Quadratic Rings

We consider a convenient category of "quadratic" multirings, that allows simple functorial relations with categories associated with abstract quadratic forms theories and shares many good aspects of the theories of Special Groups and of Realsemigroups, but tries to avoids its drawbacks.
