On the optical-mechanical analogy in general relativity

We demonstrate that the Evans-Rosenquist formulation of the optical mechanical analogy, so successful in the application to classical problems, also describes the motion of massless particles in the Schwarzschild field of general relativity. It is possible to obtain the well known equations for light orbit and radar echo delay which account for two exclusive tests of Einstein's field equations. Some remarks including suggestions for future work are also added.

New Features of Extended Wormhole Solutions in the Scalar Field Gravity Theories

The present paper reports interesting new features that wormhole solutions in the scalar field gravity theory have. To demonstrate these, we obtain, by using a slightly modified form of the Matos-Nunez algorithm, an extended class of asymptotically flat wormhole solutions belonging to Einstein minimally coupled scalar field theory. Generally, solutions in these theories do not represent traversable wormholes due to the occurrence of curvature singularities. However, the Ellis I solution of the Einstein minimally coupled theory, when Wick rotated, yields Ellis class III solution, the latter representing a singularity-free traversable wormhole. We see that Ellis I and III are not essentially independent solutions. The Wick rotated seed solutions, extended by the algorithm, contain two new parameters a and δ;. The effect of the parameter a on the geodesic motion of test particles reveals some remarkable features. By arguing for Sagnac effect in the extended Wick rotated solution, we find that the parameter a can indeed be interpreted as a rotation parameter of the wormhole. The analyses reported here have wider applicability in that they can very well be adopted in other theories, including in the string theory.

A Semiclassical ANEC Constraint On Classical Traversable Lorentzian Wormholes

The present article lies at the interface between gravity, a highly nonlinear phenomenon, and quantum field theory. The nonlinear field equations of Einstein permit the theoretical existence of classical wormholes. One of the fundamental questions relates to the practical viability of such wormholes. One way to answer this question is to assess if the total \emph{volume} of exotic matter needed to maintain the wormhole is finite. Using this value as the lower bound, we propose a modified semiclassical volume Averaged Null Energy Condition (ANEC) constraint as a method of discarding many solutions as being possible self-consistent wormhole solutions of semiclassical gravity. The proposed constraint is consistent with known results. It turns out that a class of Morris-Thorne wormholes can be ruled out on the basis of this constraint.

An Algorithm for Generating Rotating Brans-Dicke Wormhole Solutions

Using the ansatz of Matos and Núñez, the present article proposes an algorithm for generating several classes, not all independent, of asymptotically flat rotating wormhole solutions in the Brans-Dicke Theory. The algorithm allows us to associate a real number}$n$ \textit{with} \textit{each static and generated rotating solution. We shall also demonstrate how to match a rotating wormhole to a flat spacetime at the matter boundaries. The vacuum string extensions of the solutions are straightforward. The physical interpretations of the solutions are deferred.
