Eta-diagonal distributions and infinite divisibility for R-diagonals

The class of R-diagonal *-distributions is fairly well understood in free probability. In this class, we consider the concept of infinite divisibility with respect to the operation $\boxplus$ of free additive convolution. We exploit the relation between free probability and the parallel (and simpler) world of Boolean probability. It is natural to introduce the concept of an eta-diagonal distribution that is the Boolean counterpart of an R-diagonal distribution. We establish a number of properties of eta-diagonal distributions, then we examine the canonical bijection relating eta-diagonal distributions to infinitely divisible R-diagonal ones. The overall result is a parametrization of an arbitrary $\boxplus$-infinitely divisible R-diagonal distribution that can arise in a C*-probability space, by a pair of compactly supported Borel probability measures on $[ 0, \infty )$. Among the applications of this parametrization, we prove that the set of $\boxplus$-infinitely divisible R-diagonal distributions is closed under the operation $\boxtimes$ of free multiplicative convolution.

On the Matsumoto-Yor property in free probability

We study the Matsumoto-Yor property in free probability. We prove that the limiting empirical eigenvalue distribution of the GIG matrices and the Marchenko-Pastur distribution have the free Matsumoto-Yor property. Finally we characterize these distributions by a regression properties in free probability.

Convolution, subordination and characterization problems in noncommutative probability

Characterization problems in free probability are studied here. Using subordination of free additive and free multiplicative convolutions we generalize some known characterizations in free probability to random variables with unbounded support. Using this technique we also prove a new characterization of distributions of free random variables. A similar technique is used to study Laha-Lukacs regressions for monotonically independent random variables.

A constant regression characterization of a Marchenko-Pastur law

Lukacs type characterization of Marchenko--Pastur distribution in free probability is studied here. We prove that for free $\mathbb{X}$ and $\mathbb{Y}$ when conditional moments of order $1$ and $-1$ of $(\mathbb{X+Y})^{-1/2}\mathbb{X}(\mathbb{X+Y})^{-1/2}$ given $\mathbb{X+Y}$ are constant then $\mathbb{X}$ and $\mathbb{Y}$ have Marchenko--Pastur distribution.

On the Lukacs property for free random variables

The Lukacs property of the free Poisson distribution is studied here. We prove that if free $\X$ and $\Y$ are free Poisson distributed with suitable parameters, then $\X+\Y$ and $\left(\X+\Y\right)^{-\frac{1}{2}}\X\left(\X+\Y\right)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ are free. As as an auxiliary result we give joint cumulants of $\X$ and $\X^{-1}$ for free Poisson distributed $\X$. We also study the Lukacs property of the free gamma distribution.

Dual Lukacs regressions of negative orders for non-commutative variables

In the paper we study characterizations of probability measures in free probability. By constancy of regressions for random variable $\V(\I-\U)\V$ given by $\V\U\V$, where $\U$ and $\V$ are free, we characterize free Poisson and free binomial distributions. Our paper is analog in free probability of results known in classical probability \cite{BobWes2002Dual}, where gamma and beta distributions are characterized by constancy of $\E((V(1-U))^{i}|UV)$, for $i \in \{-2,-1,1,2\}$. This paper together with previous results \cite{SzpojanWesol} exhaust all cases of characterizations from \cite{BobWes2002Dual}.

Dual Lukacs regressions for non-commutative variables

Dual Lukacs type characterizations of random variables in free probability are studied here. First, we develop a freeness property satisfied by Lukacs type transformations of free-Poisson and free-Binomial non-commutative variables which are free. Second, we give a characterization of non-commutative free-Poisson and free-Binomial variables by properties of first two conditional moments, which mimic Lukacs type assumptions known from classical probability. More precisely, our result is a non-commutative version of the following result known in classical probability: if $U$, $V$ are independent real random variables, such that $E(V(1-U)|UV)$ and $E(V^2(1-U)^2|UV)$ are non-random then $V$ has a gamma distribution and $U$ has a beta distribution.
