Density properties of fractions with Euler's totient function

We prove that for all constants $a\in\N$, $b\in\Z$, $c,d\in\R$, $c\neq 0$, the fractions $ϕ(an+b)/(cn+d)$ lie dense in the interval $]0,D]$ (respectively $[D,0[$ if $c<0$), where $D=aϕ(\gcd(a,b))/(c\gcd(a,b))$. This interval is the largest possible, since it may happen that isolated fractions lie outside of the interval: we prove a complete determination of the case where this happens, which yields an algorithm that calculates the amount of $n$ such that $\rad(an+b)|g$ for coprime $a,b$ and any $g$. Furthermore, this leads to an interesting open question which is a generalization of a famous problem raised by V.~Arnold. For the fractions $ϕ(an+b)/ϕ(cn+d)$ with constants $a,c\in\N,b,d\in\Z$, we prove that they lie dense in $]0,\infty[$ exactly if $ad\neq bc$.

Large sieve estimate for multivariate polynomial moduli and applications

We prove large sieve inequalities with multivariate polynomial moduli and deduce a general Bombieri--Vinogradov type theorem for a class of polynomial moduli having a sufficient number of variables compared to its degree. This sharpens previous results of the first author in two aspects: the range of the moduli as well as the class of polynomials which can be handled. As a consequence, we deduce that there exist infinitely many primes $p$such that $p-1$ has a prime divisor of size $\gg p^{2/5+o(1)}$ that is the value of an incomplete norm form polynomial.

Condtional Bounds on Siegel Zeros

We present an overview of bounds on zeros of $L$-functions and obtain some improvements under weak conjectures related to the Goldbach problem.

Bounds for discrete moments of Weyl sums and applications

We prove two bounds for discrete moments of Weyl sums. The first one can be obtained using a standard approach. The second one involves an observation how this method can be improved, which leads to a sharper bound in certain ranges. The proofs both build on the recently proved main conjecture for Vinogradov's mean value theorem. We present two selected applications: First, we prove a new $k$- th derivative test for the number of integer points close to a curve by an exponential sum approach. This yields a stronger bound than existing results obtained via geometric methods, but it is only applicable for specific functions. As second application we prove a new improvement of the polynomial large sieve inequality for one-variable polynomials of degree $k \geq 4$.

Asymptotics of Goldbach Representations

We present a historical account of the asymptotics of classical Goldbach representations with special reference to the equivalence with the Riemann Hypothesis. When the primes are chosen from an arithmetic progression comparable but weaker relationships exist with the zeros of L-functions.

Goldbach Representations in Arithmetic Progressions and zeros of Dirichlet L-functions

Assuming a conjecture on distinct zeros of Dirichlet L-functions we get asymptotic results on the average number of representations of an integer as the sum of two primes in arithmetic progression. On the other hand the existence of good error terms gives information on the the location of zeros of L-functions and possible Siegel zeros. Similar results are obtained for an integer in a congruence class expressed as the sum of two primes.

A Bombieri--Vinogradov Theorem with products of Gaussian primes as moduli

We prove a version of the Bombieri--Vinogradov Theorem with certain products of Gaussian primes as moduli, making use of their special form as polynomial expressions in several variables. Adapting Vaughan's proof of the classical Bombieri--Vinogadov Theorem to this setting, we apply the polynomial large sieve inequality that has been recently proved and which includes recent progress in Vinogradov's mean value theorem due to Parsell et al. From the benefit of these improvements, we obtain an extended range for the variables compared to the range obtained from standard arguments only.

Goldbach's problem with primes in arithmetic progressions and in short intervals

Some mean value theorems in the style of Bombieri-Vinogradov's theorem are discussed. They concern binary and ternary additive problems with primes in arithmetic progressions and short intervals. Nontrivial estimates for some of these mean values are given. As application inter alia, we show that for large odd n\not\equiv 1 (6), Goldbach's ternary problem n=p_1+p_2+p_3 is solvable with primes p_1,p_2 in short intervals p_i \in [X_i,X_i+Y] with X_{i}^{θ_i}=Y, i=1,2, and θ_1,θ_2\geq 0.933 such that (p_1+2)(p_2+2) has at most 9 prime factors.

On the ternary Goldbach problem with primes in independent arithmetic progressions

We show that for every fixed $A>0$ and $θ>0$ there is a $\vartheta=\vartheta(A,θ)>0$ with the following property. Let $n$ be odd and sufficiently large, and let $Q_{1}=Q_{2}:=n^{\h}(\log n)^{-\vartheta}$ and $Q_{3}:=(\log n)^θ$. Then for all $q_{3}\leq Q_{3}$, all reduced residues $a_{3}$ mod $q_{3}$, almost all $q_{2}\leq Q_{2}$, all admissible residues $a_{2}$ mod $q_{2}$, almost all $q_{1}\leq Q_{1}$ and all admissible residues $a_{1}$ mod $q_{1}$, there exists a representation $n=p_{1}+p_{2}+p_{3}$ with primes $p_{i}\equiv a_{i} (q_{i})$, $i=1,2,3$.
