Comparing on-off detector and single photon detector in photon subtraction based continuous variable quantum teleportation

We consider here two distinct photon detectors namely, single photon detector and on-off detector, to implement photon subtraction on a two-mode squeezed vacuum (TMSV) state. The two distinct photon subtracted TMSV states generated are utilized individually as resource states in continuous variable quantum teleportation. Owing to the fact that the two generated states have different success probabilities (of photon subtraction) and fidelities (of quantum teleportation), we consider the product of the success probability and fidelity enhancement as a figure of merit for the comparison of the two detectors. The results show that the single photon detector should be preferred over the on-off detector for the maximization of the considered figure of merit.

Optimal non-Gaussian operations in difference-intensity detection and parity detection-based Mach-Zehnder interferometer

We investigate the benefits of probabilistic non-Gaussian operations in phase estimation using difference-intensity and parity detection-based Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZI). We consider an experimentally implementable model to perform three different non-Gaussian operations, namely photon subtraction (PS), photon addition (PA), and photon catalysis (PC) on a single-mode squeezed vacuum (SSV) state. In difference-intensity detection-based MZI, two PC operation is found to be the most optimal, while for parity detection-based MZI, two PA operation emerges as the most optimal process. We have also provided the corresponding squeezing and transmissivity parameters at best performance, making our study relevant for experimentalists. Further, we have derived the general expression of moment-generating function, which shall be useful in exploring other detection schemes such as homodyne detection and quadratic homodyne detection.

Optimal phase sensitivity of an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer

In this paper we address the problem of optimizing an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer, for a given pure input state and considering a specific detection scheme. While the optimum transmission coefficient of the first beam splitter can be uniquely determined via the quantum Fisher information only [Phys. Rev. A 105, 012604 (2022)], the second beam splitter transmission coefficient is detection-scheme dependent, too. We systematically give analytic solutions for the optimum transmission coefficient of the second beam splitter for three types of widely used detection schemes. We provide detailed examples including both Gaussian and non-Gaussian input states, showing when an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer can outperform its balanced counterpart in terms of phase sensitivity.
