Holographic thermal propagator at finite energy from modularity and triality

We extend the modularity-based approach of arXiv:2509.02226 for the holographic thermal propagator to the physically relevant case of nonzero energy $ω$. Via the AGT correspondence, the problem is mapped to $\mathcal{N}=2$ $SU(2)$ gauge theory with $N_f=4$ hypermultiplets. Turning on $ω$ activates all four hypermultiplet masses, so that the full $SO(8)$ flavor symmetry constrains the low-temperature expansion, rather than the subgroup left unbroken at $ω=0$. As a result, the building blocks of the expansion are no longer just Eisenstein series but also Jacobi theta functions. We use this fact, together with the Molien series of the resulting invariant ring and the modular anomaly equation, to fix the low-temperature expansion coefficients order by order, matching only a finite number of terms in the Zamolodchikov's $q$-recursion at each order. We obtain the low-temperature expansion of the propagator and find agreement with the result of a completely different method, the near-boundary expansion of the bulk wave equation.

Linearly Polarized Gravitational Waves from Bubble Collisions

Physics beyond the Standard Model may give rise to first-order phase transitions proceeding via the nucleation of vacuum bubbles, whose subsequent collisions generate gravitational waves (GWs). Their detection would open the possibility of investigating the universe in its first instants. If the transition is slow enough, such that it completes with the nucleation and collision of only two bubbles, the resulting GW signal is linearly polarized. This would give a unique signature for the origin of such a GW signal. We show that even though such phase transitions would be slow, they still could lie within the detectability range of GW interferometers such as LISA and the Einstein Telescope and the underlying two-bubble origin would be encoded in higher-order polarization statistics.

Stable Evaluation of Lefschetz Thimble Intersection Numbers: Towards Real-Time Path Integrals

We introduce a robust numerical method for determining intersection numbers of Lefschetz thimbles in multivariable settings. Our approach employs the multiple shooting method to solve the upward flow equations from the saddle points to the original integration cycle, which also enables us to determine the signs of the intersection numbers. The method demonstrates stable and reliable performance, and has been tested for systems with up to $20$ variables, which can be further extended by adopting quadruple-precision arithmetic. We determine intersection numbers for several complex saddle points in a discretized path integral, providing new insights into the structure of real-time path integrals. The proposed method is broadly applicable to a wide range of problems involving oscillatory integrals in physics and mathematics.

Holographic thermal propagator from modularity

It is known that the holographic thermal propagator in 4 spacetime dimensions can be related to the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit of the $Ω$-deformed ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric $SU(2)$ Yang-Mills theory with $N_f=4$ hypermultiplets. There are two expansions involved: one is the expansion in small temperature which in the Seiberg-Witten language is equivalent to the semiclassical expansion in inverse powers of the large adjoint vev and the second is the expansion in instanton numbers. Working in the simplified case of zero energy, we find that the latter expansion gives rise to quasi-modular forms which can be resummed as functions of Eisenstein series. The so obtained series in positive powers of small temperature shows clear signs of being asymptotic.

Functional Determinants for False Vacuum Decay

We derive simple expressions to regularise functional determinants from fluctuations of fields with spin 0, 1/2, and 1. These are important for the precise dimensionful determination of false vacuum decay rates. We work in $D = 4$ Euclidean dimensions and use familiar Feynman diagrammatic techniques with a double expansion in interactions and masses, together with dimensional regularisation in momentum space. We Fourier transform to coordinate space and end up with a simple regularisation prescription in terms of single integrals over the Euclidean radius of field-dependent masses and their derivatives. Our results apply to models with an arbitrary scalar potential and with any number of scalars, fermions, gauge bosons and associated ghosts. We exemplify this approach on the Standard Model with a streamlined calculation of the renormalisation and isolation of divergences in fluctuation determinants.

Revising the full one-loop gauge prefactor in electroweak vacuum stability

We revisit the decay rate of the electroweak vacuum in the Standard Model with the full one-loop prefactor. We focus on the gauge degrees of freedom and derive the degeneracy factors appearing in the functional determinant using group theoretical arguments. Our treatment shows that the transverse modes were previously overcounted, so we revise the calculation of that part of the prefactor. The new result modifies the gauge fields' contribution by $6\%$ and slightly decreases the previously predicted lifetime of the electroweak vacuum, which remains much longer than the age of the universe. Our discussion of the transverse mode degeneracy applies to any calculation of functional determinants involving gauge fields in four dimensions.

Cosmic Strings from Tribrid Inflation

Tribrid inflation is a class of supersymmetric inflation models where the scalar component of a matter superfield, or a $D$-flat direction of matter fields, drives inflation. Similar to Hybrid inflation, the end of inflation is reached when a "waterfall field", which was stabilized during inflation at a field value where the scalar potential features a large vacuum energy, starts rapidly rolling towards its minimum where a symmetry group $G$ is spontaneously broken. In contrast to standard supersymmetric Hybrid inflation, where the inflaton is a gauge singlet, in Tribrid inflation it can be a gauge non-singlet, which, via its vacuum expectation value, already breaks the gauge symmetry. This raises the question whether topological defects can still form after inflation in this class of models, and if so, which types of defects are generated. We investigate this question systematically in realisations of Tribrid inflation where $G = U(1)$ and we analyse under which conditions cosmic strings form. We find that in the considered cases where domain walls form, these are only temporary and do not invalidate the model realisations. We also discuss how our results can be used to analyse models of Tribrid inflation associated with the final step of $SO(10)$ breaking, where cosmic strings can be metastable and provide a promising explanation of the recent PTA results hinting at a stochastic gravitational wave background at nanohertz frequencies.
