Precise predictions for trilinear Higgs couplings and Higgs pair production in extended scalar sectors with anyH3 and anyHH

A central objective of future collider experiments is to probe the structure of the Higgs potential, which requires access to trilinear scalar couplings, in particular the self-coupling of the observed Higgs boson. While this coupling is fixed in the Standard Model (SM), it can receive sizable modifications in many Beyond the SM (BSM) scenarios, often connected to solutions of open problems such as the origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe. In theories with extended scalar sectors, radiative corrections involving additional scalar states can significantly affect both the Higgs self-coupling and other trilinear scalar interactions, with important consequences for predictions of physical observables. Precise theoretical calculations are therefore essential for the interpretation of precision Higgs measurements and for identifying indirect signatures of new physics. This contribution presents the latest version of the public tool anyBSM, which provides automated calculations of all trilinear scalar couplings at full one-loop order in arbitrary renormalisable theories, including full momentum dependence and flexible renormalisation-scheme choices. In addition, the new module anyHH for di-Higgs production in gluon fusion is discussed in several exemplary BSM models, including scenarios with multiple resonances.

Experimental Determination of BSM Triple Higgs Couplings at the HL-LHC with Neural Networks

The shape of the Higgs potential is modified by the presence of additional scalar fields, as predicted in many Beyond-Standard-Model (BSM) scenarios. In such cases, deviations in the Higgs self-interactions, in particular the trilinear Higgs couplings, could serve to disentangle the physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). While the SM predicts only one trilinear Higgs coupling, extended scalar sectors allow for additional self-interactions that can manifest themselves in Higgs pair production, via the $s$-channel contribution of a heavy $\mathcal{CP}$-even scalar $H$. We present the first sensitivity study to such a BSM trilinear scalar coupling using machine learning. Specifically, we train a neural network on the invariant mass distributions of Higgs pair production at the HL-LHC to extract $\xi_H^t \times \lambda_{hhH}$, i.e. the product of the resonant $H$ top-Yukawa coupling and the trilinear coupling of $H$ to the two SM-like Higgses in the final state, $hh$. Assuming a hypothetical $H$ mass of 450 GeV, we show that, depending on future experimental efficiencies and uncertainties, a determination of $\xi_H^t \times \lambda_{hhH}$ at the 10-20% level may be achievable by the end of the HL-LHC. We present a simple and more efficient alternative to classical statistical methods, proving the efficiency of neural networks for both hypothesis testing and parameter estimation, which outperforms conventional maximum likelihood methods in this context.

First shot of the smoking gun: probing the electroweak phase transition in the 2HDM with novel searches for $A \to ZH$ in $\ell^+ \ell^- t \bar{t}$ and $\nu \nu b \bar{b}$ final states

Recently the ATLAS collaboration has reported the first results of searches for heavy scalar resonances decaying into a $Z$ boson and a lighter new scalar resonance, where the $Z$ boson decays leptonically and the lighter scalar decays into a top-quark pair, giving rise to $\ell^+ \ell^- t \bar{t}$ final states. This had previously been identified as a smoking-gun signature at the LHC for a first-order electroweak phase transition (FOEWPT) within the framework of two Higgs doublet models (2HDMs). In addition, ATLAS also presented new limits where the $Z$ boson decays into pairs of neutrinos and the lighter scalar resonance into bottom-quark pairs, giving rise to the $\nu \nu b \bar b$ final state. We analyze the impact of these new searches on the 2HDM parameter space, with emphasis on their capability to probe currently allowed 2HDM regions featuring a strong FOEWPT. We also study the complementarity of these new searches with other LHC probes that could target the FOEWPT region of the 2HDM. Remarkably, the ATLAS search in the $\ell^+ \ell^- t \bar{t}$ final state shows a local $2.85\,\sigma$ excess (for masses of about 650 GeV and 450 GeV for the heavy and light resonance) in the 2HDM parameter region that would yield a FOEWPT in the early universe, which could constitute the first experimental hint of baryogenesis at the electroweak scale. We analyze the implications of this excess, and discuss the detectability prospects for the associated gravitational wave signal from the FOEWPT. Furthermore, we project the sensitivity reach of the $\ell^+ \ell^- t \bar{t}$ signature for the upcoming runs of the LHC. Finally, we introduce the python package thdmTools, a state-of-art tool for the exploration of the 2HDM.
