On the non-critical exceptional zeros of Katz $p$-adic $L$-functions for CM fields

The primary goal of this article is to study $p$-adic Beilinson conjectures in the presence of exceptional zeros for Artin motives over CM fields. In more precise terms, we address a question raised by Hida and Tilouine on the order of vanishing of Katz $p$-adic $L$-functions associated to CM fields, by means of a leading term formula we prove in terms of Rubin-Stark elements. In the particular case when the CM field in question is imaginary quadratic, our leading term formula and its consequences we record herein are unconditional.

On the exceptional zeros of $p$-non-ordinary $p$-adic $L$-functions and a conjecture of Perrin-Riou

Our goal in this article is to prove a form of $p$-adic Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer formula for the second derivative of the $p$-adic $L$-function associated to a newform $f$ which is non-crystalline semistable at $p$ at its central critical point, by expressing this quantity in terms of a $p$-adic (cyclotomic) regulator defined on an extended trianguline Selmer group. We also prove a two-variable version of this result for height pairings we construct by considering infinitesimal deformations afforded by a Coleman family passing through $f$. This, among other things, leads us to a proof of an appropriate version of Perrin-Riou's conjecture in this set-up.

Iwasawa theory of elliptic modular forms over imaginary quadratic fields at non-ordinary primes

We formulate integral Iwasawa main conjectures for suitable twists of a newform $f$ that is non-ordinary at $p$, over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension, the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions (in both the definite and the indefinite cases) as well as the $\mathbb{Z}_p^2$-extension of an imaginary quadratic field $K$ where $p$ splits. In order to do so, we define Kobayashi-Sprung-style signed Coleman maps, which we use to introduce doubly-signed Selmer groups. In the same spirit, we construct signed (integral) Beilinson-Flach elements (out of the collection of unbounded Beilinson-Flach elements of Loeffler-Zerbes), which we use to define doubly-signed $p$-adic $L$-functions. The main conjecture then relates these two set of objects. Furthermore, we show that the integral Beilinson-Flach elements form a locally restricted Euler system, that in turn allows us to deduce (under certain technical assumptions) one inclusion in each one of the four main conjectures we formulate here (which may be turned into equalities under favourable circumstances).

Functional Equation for p-adic Rankin-Selberg L-functions

We prove a functional equation for the three-variable $p$-adic $L$-function attached to the Rankin-Selberg convolution of a Coleman family and a CM Hida family, which was studied by Loeffler and Zerbes. Consequentially, we deduce that an anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-function attached to a $p$-non-ordinary modular form vanishes identically in the indefinite setting.

On the Iwasawa theory of CM fields for supersingular primes

The goal of this article is two-fold: First, to prove a (two-variable) main conjecture for a CM field $F$ without assuming the $p$-ordinary hypothesis of Katz, making use of what we call the Rubin-Stark $\mathcal{L}$-restricted Kolyvagin systems which is constructed out of the conjectural Rubin-Stark Euler system of rank $g$. (We are also able to obtain weaker unconditional results in this direction.) Second objective is to prove the Park-Shahabi plus/minus main conjecture for a CM elliptic curve $E$ defined over a general totally real field again using (a twist of the) Rubin-Stark Kolyvagin system. This latter result has consequences towards the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for $E$.

Deformations of Kolyvagin systems

Ochiai has previously proved that the Beilinson-Kato Euler systems for modular forms interpolate in nearly-ordinary $p$-adic families (Howard has obtained a similar result for Heegner points), based on which he was able to prove a half of the two-variable main conjectures. The principal goal of this article is to generalize Ochiai's work in the level of Kolyvagin systems so as to prove that Kolyvagin systems associated to Beilinson-Kato elements interpolate in the full deformation space (in particular, beyond the nearly-ordinary locus) and use what we call universal Kolyvagin systems to attempt a main conjecture over the eigencurve. Along the way, we utilize these objects in order to define a quasicoherent sheaf on the eigencurve that behaves like a $p$-adic $L$-function (in a certain sense of the word, in $3$-variables).

Big Heegner point Kolyvagin system for a family of modular forms

The principal goal of this paper is to develop Kolyvagin's descent to apply with the big Heegner point Euler system constructed by Howard for the big Galois representation $\mathbb{T}$ attached to a Hida family $\mathbb{F}$ of elliptic modular forms. In order to achieve this, we interpolate and control the Tamagawa factors attached to each member of the family $\mathbb{F}$ at bad primes, which should be of independent interest. Using this, we then work out the Kolyvagin descent on the big Heegner point Euler system so as to obtain a big Kolyvagin system that interpolates the collection of Kolyvagin systems obtained by Fouquet for each member of the family individually. This construction has standard applications to Iwasawa theory, which we record at the end.

Main conjectures for CM fields and a Yager-type theorem for Rubin-Stark elements

In this article, we study the p-ordinary Iwasawa theory of the (conjectural) Rubin-Stark elements defined over abelian extensions of a CM field F and develop a rank-g Euler/Kolyvagin system machinery (where 2g is the degree of F), refining and generalizing Perrin-Riou's theory and the author's prior work. This has several important arithmetic consequences: Using the recent results of Hida and Hsieh on the CM main conjectures, we prove a natural extension of a theorem of Yager for the CM field F, where we relate the Rubin-Stark elements to the several-variable Katz p-adic L-function. Furthermore, beyond the cases covered by Hida and Hsieh, we are able to reduce the p-ordinary CM main conjectures to a local statement about the Rubin-Stark elements. We discuss applications of our results in the arithmetic of CM abelian varieties.

$Λ$-adic Kolyvagin systems

In this paper, we study the deformations of Kolyvagin systems that are known to exist in a wide variety of cases, by the work of B. Howard, B. Mazur, and K. Rubin for the residual Galois representations, along the cyclotomic Iwasawa algebra. We prove, under certain technical hypotheses, that a cyclotomic deformation of a Kolyvagin system exists. We also briefly discuss how our techniques could be extended to prove that one could deform Kolyvagin systems for other deformations as well. We discuss several applications of this result, particularly relation of these $Λ$-adic Kolyvagin systems to p-adic L-functions (in view of the conjectures of Perrin-Riou on p-adic L-functions) and applications to main conjectures; also applications to the study of Iwasawa theory of Rubin-Stark units.

Stickelberger elements and Kolyvagin systems

In this paper, we construct (many) Kolyvagin systems out of Stickelberger elements, utilizing ideas borrowed from our previous work on Kolyvagin systems of Rubin-Stark elements. We show how to apply this construction to prove results on the odd parts of the ideal class groups of CM fields which are abelian over a totally real field, and deduce the main conjecture of Iwasawa theory for totally real fields (for totally odd characters). Although the main results of this paper have already been established by Wiles, our approach provides another example (which slightly differs from the case of Stark elements) on how to study Kolyvagin systems of core rank r > 1 (in the sense of Mazur and Rubin). Also, by making use of the 'rigidity' of the collection of Kolyvagin systems, we establish a link between the Stickelberger elements and the Rubin-Stark elements.

On Euler systems of rank $r$ and their Kolyvagin systems

In this paper we set up a general Kolyvagin system machinery for Euler systems of rank r (in the sense of Perrin-Riou) associated to a large class of Galois representations, building on our previous work on Kolyvagin systems of Rubin-Stark units and generalizing the results of Kato, Rubin and Perrin-Riou. Our machinery produces a bound on the size of the classical Selmer group attached to a Galoys representation T (that satisfies certain technical hypotheses) in terms of a certain r \times r determinant; a bound which remarkably goes hand in hand with Bloch-Kato conjectures. At the end, we present an application based on a conjecture of Perrin-Riou on p-adic L-functions, which lends further evidence to Bloch-Kato conjectures.

Height pairings, exceptional zeros and Rubin's Formula: The multiplicative group

In this paper we prove a formula, much in the spirit of one due to Rubin, which expresses the leading coefficients of various p-adic L-functions in the presence of an exceptional zero in terms of Nekovar's p-adic height pairings on his extended Selmer groups. In a particular case, the Rubin-style formula we prove recovers a p-adic Kronecker limit formula. In a disjoint case, we observe that our computations with Nekovar's heights agree with the Ferrero- Greenberg formula (more generally, Gross' conjectural formula) for the leading coefficient of the Kubota-Leopoldt p-adic L-function (resp., the Deligne-Ribet p-adic L-function) at s = 0.

Kolyvagin systems of Stark units

In this paper we construct, using Stark elements of Rubin [Ann. Inst. Fourier (Grenoble) 46 (1996), no. 1, 33-62], Kolyvagin systems for certain modified Selmer structures (that are adjusted to have core rank one in the sense of [Mem. Amer. Math. Soc. 168 (2004), no. 799] and prove a Gras-type conjecture, relating these Kolyvagin systems to appropriate ideal class groups, refining the results of Rubin [J. Reine Angew. Math. 425 (1992), 141-154].

Tamagawa defect of Euler systems

As remarked in [Kolyvagin systems, by Barry Mazur and Karl Rubin] Proposition 6.2.6 and Buyukboduk[ arXiv:0706.0377v1 ] Remark 3.25 one does not expect the Kolyvagin system obtained from an Euler system for a p-adic Galois representation T to be primitive (in the sense of [Kolyvagin systems, by Barry Mazur and Karl Rubin] Definition 4.5.5) if p divides a Tamagawa number at a prime \ell different from p; thus fails to compute the correct size of the relevant Selmer module. In this paper we obtain a lower bound for the size of the cokernel of the Euler system to Kolyvagin system map (see Theorem 3.2.4 of [Kolyvagin systems, by Barry Mazur and Karl Rubin] for a definition of this map) in terms of the Tamagawa numbers of T, refining [Kolyvagin systems, by Barry Mazur and Karl Rubin] Propostion 6.2.6. We show how this partially accounts for the missing Tamagawa factors in Kato's calculations with his Euler system.

Stark units and main conjectures for totally real fields

Main theorem of [Buyukboduk, arXiv:0706.0377v1] suggests that it should be possible to lift the Kolyvagin systems of Stark units constructed in [Buyukboduk, arXiv:math/0703426v1] to a Kolyvagin system over the cyclotomic Iwasawa algebra. This is what we prove in this paper. This construction gives the first example towards a more systematic study of Kolyvagin system theory over an Iwasawa algebra when the core Selmer rank is greater than one. As a result of this construction, we reduce the main conjectures of Iwasawa theory for totally real fields to a statement of local Iwasawa theory. This statement, however, turns out to be interesting in its own right as it suggests a relation between solutions to $p$-adic and complex Stark conjectures.
