Six-point gluon scattering amplitudes from Z_4-symmetric integrable model

We study six-point gluon scattering amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling by investigating the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations of the underlying Z_4-symmetric integrable model both analytically and numerically. By the conformal field theory (CFT) perturbation, we compute the free energy part of the remainder function with generic chemical potential near the CFT/small mass limit. Combining this with the expansion of the Y-functions, we obtain the remainder function near the small mass limit up to a function of the chemical potential, which can be evaluated numerically. We also find the leading corrections to the remainder function near the large mass limit. We confirm that these results are in good agreement with numerical computations.

Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz Equations for Minimal Surfaces in AdS_3

We study classical open string solutions with a null polygonal boundary in AdS_3 in relation to gluon scattering amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills at strong coupling. We derive in full detail the set of integral equations governing the decagonal and the dodecagonal solutions and identify them with the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations of the homogeneous sine-Gordon models. By evaluating the free energy in the conformal limit we compute the central charges, from which we observe general correspondence between the polygonal solutions in AdS_n and generalized parafermions.

Constant mean curvature surfaces in AdS_3

We construct constant mean curvature surfaces of the general finite-gap type in AdS_3. The special case with zero mean curvature gives minimal surfaces relevant for the study of Wilson loops and gluon scattering amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills. We also analyze properties of the finite-gap solutions including asymptotic behavior and the degenerate (soliton) limit, and discuss possible solutions with null boundaries.

A note on string solutions in AdS_3

We systematically search for classical open string solutions in AdS_3 within the general class expressed by elliptic functions (i.e., the genus-one finite-gap solutions). By explicitly solving the reality and Virasoro conditions, we give a classification of the allowed solutions. When the elliptic modulus degenerates, we find a class of solutions with six null boundaries, among which two pairs are collinear. By adding the S^1 sector, we also find four-cusp solutions with null boundaries expressed by the elliptic functions.

Entanglement through conformal interfaces

We consider entanglement through permeable interfaces in the c=1 (1+1)-dimensional conformal field theory. We compute the partition functions with the interfaces inserted. By the replica trick, the entanglement entropy is obtained analytically. The entropy scales logarithmically with respect to the size of the system, similarly to the universal scaling of the ordinary entanglement entropy in (1+1)-dimensional conformal field theory. Its coefficient, however, is not constant but controlled by the permeability, the dependence on which is expressed through the dilogarithm function. The sub-leading term of the entropy counts the winding numbers, showing an analogy to the topological entanglement entropy which characterizes the topological order in (2+1)-dimensional systems.

On the origin of the dressing phase in N=4 Super Yang-Mills

We derive the phase factor proposed by Beisert, Eden and Staudacher for the S-matrix of planar N=4 Super Yang-Mills, from the all-loop Bethe ansatz equations without the dressing factor. We identify a configuration of the Bethe roots, from which the closed integral formula of the phase factor is reproduced in the thermodynamic limit. This suggests that our configuration describes the ``physical vacuum'' in the sense that the dressing phase is nothing but the effective phase for the scattering of fundamental excitations above this vacuum, providing an interesting clue to the physical origin of the dressing phase.

Microscopic formulation of the S-matrix in AdS/CFT

We develop the derivation we proposed in hep-th/0703177 of the dressing phase of the S-matrix in the AdS/CFT correspondence in the framework of the underlying bare integrable model. We elaborate the configuration of the Bethe roots describing the physical vacuum, which consists of a long Bethe string stretched along the imaginary axis and stacks distributed along the real axis. We determine the distribution of all Bethe roots in the thermodynamic limit. We then directly compute the scattering phase of the fundamental excitations over the physical vacuum and reproduce the BHL/BES dressing phase.

A large spin limit of strings on AdS_5 x S^5 in a non-compact sector

We study the scaling law of the energy spectrum of classical strings on AdS_5 x S^5, in particular, in the SL(2) sector for large S (AdS spin) and fixed J (S^1 \subset S^5 spin). For any finite gap solution, we identify the limit in which the energy exhibits the logarithmic scaling in S, characteristic to the anomalous dimension of low-twist gauge theory operators. Our result therefore shows that the log S scaling, first observed by Gubser, Klebanov and Polyakov for the folded string, is universal also on the string side, suggesting another interesting window to explore the AdS/CFT correspondence as in the BMN/Frolov-Tseytlin limit.

Strings as Multi-Particle States of Quantum Sigma-Models

We study the quantum Bethe ansatz equations in the O(2n) sigma-model for hysical particles on a circle, with the interaction given by the Zamolodchikovs' S-matrix, in view of its application to quantization of the string on the S^{2n-1} x R_t space. For a finite number of particles, the system looks like an inhomogeneous integrable O(2n) spin chain. Similarly to OSp(2m+n|2m) conformal sigma-model considered by Mann and Polchinski, we reproduce in the limit of large density of particles the finite gap Kazakov-Marshakov-Minahan-Zarembo solution for the classical string and its generalization to the S^5 x R_t sector of the Green-Schwarz-Metsaev-Tseytlin superstring. We also reproduce some quantum effects: the BMN limit and the quantum homogeneous spin chain similar to the one describing the bosonic sector of the one-loop N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. We discuss the prospects of generalization of these Bethe equations to the full superstring sigma-model.

Quadrupolar effect and rattling motion in heavy fermion superconductor PrOs_4Sb_{12}

The elastic properties of a filled skutterudite PrOs_4Sb_{12} with a heavy Fermion superconductivity at T_C=1.85 K have been investigated. The elastic softening of (C_{11}-C_{12})/2 and C_{44} with lowering temperature down to T_C indicates that the quadrupolar fluctuation due to the CEF state plays a role for the Cooper paring in superconducting phase of PrOs_4Sb_{12}. A Debye-type dispersion in the elastic constants around 30 K revealed a thermally activated Gamma_{23} rattling due to the off-center Pr-atom motion obeying tau=tau_{0}exp(E/k_{B}T) with an attempt time tau_0=8.8*10^{-11} sec and an activation energy E=168 K. It is remarkable that the charge fluctuation of the off-center motion with Gamma_{23} symmetry may mix with the quadrupolar fluctuation and enhance the elastic softening of (C_{11}-C_{12})/2 just above T_C.

Seiberg-Witten Curve for E-String Theory Revisited

We discuss various properties of the Seiberg-Witten curve for the E-string theory which we have obtained recently in hep-th/0203025. Seiberg-Witten curve for the E-string describes the low-energy dynamics of a six-dimensional (1,0) SUSY theory when compactified on R^4 x T^2. It has a manifest affine E_8 global symmetry with modulus τand E_8 Wilson line parameters {m_i},i=1,2,...,8 which are associated with the geometry of the rational elliptic surface. When the radii R_5,R_6 of the torus T^2 degenerate R_5,R_6 --> 0, E-string curve is reduced to the known Seiberg-Witten curves of four- and five-dimensional gauge theories. In this paper we first study the geometry of rational elliptic surface and identify the geometrical significance of the Wilson line parameters. By fine tuning these parameters we also study degenerations of our curve corresponding to various unbroken symmetry groups. We also find a new way of reduction to four-dimensional theories without taking a degenerate limit of T^2 so that the SL(2,Z) symmetry is left intact. By setting some of the Wilson line parameters to special values we obtain the four-dimensional SU(2) Seiberg-Witten theory with 4 flavors and also a curve by Donagi and Witten describing the dynamics of a perturbed N=4 theory.

Asymptotic Form of Gopakumar-Vafa Invariants from Instanton Counting

We study the asymptotic form of the Gopakumar-Vafa invariants at all genera for Calabi-Yau toric threefolds which have the structure of fibration of the A_n singularity over P^1. We claim that the asymptotic form is the inverse Laplace transform of the corresponding instanton amplitude in the prepotential of N=2 SU(n+1) gauge theory coupled to external graviphoton fields, which is given by the logarithm of the Nekrasov's partition function.

Seiberg-Witten Curve for the E-String Theory

We construct the Seiberg-Witten curve for the E-string theory in six-dimensions. The curve is expressed in terms of affine E_8 characters up to level 6 and is determined by using the mirror-type transformation so that it reproduces the number of holomorphic curves in the Calabi-Yau manifold and the amplitudes of N=4 U(n) Yang-Mills theory on 1/2 K3. We also show that our curve flows to known five- and four-dimensional Seiberg-Witten curves in suitable limits.
