Polynomial Chaotic Inflation in Supergravity

We present a general polynomial chaotic inflation model in supergravity, for which the predicted spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio can lie within the 1 sigma region allowed by the Planck results. Most importantly, the predicted tensor-to-scalar ratio is large enough to be probed in the on-going and future B-mode experiments. We study the inflaton dynamics and the subsequent reheating process in a couple of specific examples. The non-thermal gravitino production from the inflaton decay can be suppressed in a case with a discrete Z_2 symmetry. We find that the reheating temperature can be naturally as high as O(10^{9-10}) GeV, sufficient for baryon asymmetry generation through (non-)thermal leptogenesis.

Polynomial Chaotic Inflation in the Planck Era

We propose a chaotic inflation model in supergravity based on polynomial interactions of the inflaton. Specifically we study the chaotic inflation model with quadratic, cubic and quartic couplings in the scalar potential and show that the predicted scalar spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio can lie within the 1 sigma region allowed by the Planck results.

Moduli-Induced Axion Problem

We point out that the cosmological moduli problem is not necessarily resolved even if the modulus mass is heavier than O(10)TeV, contrary to the common wisdom. The point is that, in many scenarios where the lightest moduli fields are stabilized by supersymmetry breaking effects, those moduli fields tend to mainly decay into almost massless axions, whose abundance is tightly constrained by the recent Planck results. We study the moduli-induced axion problem in concrete examples, and discuss possible solutions. The problem and its solutions are widely applicable to decays of heavy scalar fields which dominate the energy density of the Universe, for instance, the reheating of the inflaton.

Scalar Trapping and Saxion Cosmology

We study in detail the dynamics of a scalar field in thermal bath with symmetry breaking potential. In particular, we focus on the process of trapping of a scalar field at an enhanced symmetry point through the thermal/non-thermal particle production, taking into account the interactions of produced particles with the standard model particles. As an explicit example, we revisit the saxion dynamics with an initial amplitude much larger than the Peccei-Quinn scale and show that the saxion trapping phenomenon happens for the most cases and it often leads to thermal inflation. We also study the saxion dynamics after thermal inflation, and it is shown that thermal dissipation effect on the saxion can relax the axion overproduction problem from the saxion decay.

Dynamics of oscillating scalar field in thermal environment

There often appear coherently oscillating scalar fields in particle physics motivated cosmological scenarios, which may have rich phenomenological consequences. Scalar fields should somehow interact with background thermal bath in order to decay into radiation at an appropriate epoch, but introducing some couplings to the scalar field makes the dynamics complicated. We investigate in detail the dynamics of a coherently oscillating scalar field, which has renormalizable couplings to another field interacting with thermal background. The scalar field dynamics and its resultant abundance are significantly modified by taking account of following effects : (1) thermal correction to the effective potential, (2) dissipation effect on the scalar field in thermal bath, (3) non-perturbative particle production events and (4) formation of non-topological solitons. There appear many time scales depending on the scalar mass, amplitude, couplings and the background temperature, which make the efficiencies of these effects non-trivial.

Axino dark matter with R-parity violation and 130 GeV gamma-ray line

We show that decaying axino dark matter with R-parity violation can explain the observed excess of the 130GeV gamma-ray line from the Galactic center in the Fermi data. The branching fraction of the axino decay into monochromatic photons can be O(1), and constraints from continuum gamma-rays and the anti-proton flux are ameliorated. The Peccei-Quinn scale of $O(10^{13}-10^{14})$\,GeV and the R-parity violation parameter of $O(10^{-12}-10^{-11})$ are cosmologically favored.

Dissipative Effects on Reheating after Inflation

The inflaton must convert its energy into radiation after inflation, which, in a conventional scenario, is caused by the perturbative inflaton decay. This reheating process would be much more complicated in some cases: the decay products obtain masses from an oscillating inflaton and thermal environment, and hence the conventional reheating scenario can be modified. We study in detail processes of particle production from the inflaton, their subsequent thermalization and evolution of inflaton/plasma system by taking dissipation of the inflaton in a hot plasma into account. It is shown that the reheating temperature is significantly affected by these effects.

Anomaly mediation deformed by axion

We show that in supersymmetric axion models the axion supermultiplet obtains a sizable F-term due to a non-supersymmetric dynamics and it generally gives the gaugino masses comparable to the anomaly mediation contribution. Thus the gaugino mass relation predicted by the anomaly mediation effect can be significantly modified in the presence of axion to solve the strong CP problem.

Smooth hybrid inflation in a supersymmetric axion model

We show that the smooth hybrid inflation is naturally realized in a framework of supersymmetric axion model. Identifying the Peccei-Quinn scalar fields as a part of the infaton sector, successful inflation takes place reproducing the amplitude and spectral index of the curvature perturbation observed by WMAP. A relatively large axion isocurvature perturbation and its non-Gaussianity are predicted in our model. The saxion coherent oscillation has a large amplitude and dominates the Universe. The subsequent decay of the saxion produces huge amount of entropy, which dilutes unwanted relics. Winos, the lightest supersymmetric particles in this scenario, are produced non-thermally in the decay and account for dark matter.

Revisiting the cosmological coherent oscillation

It is often the case that scalar fields are produced in the early Universe in the form of coherent oscillation. These scalar fields may have huge abundances and affect the evolution of the Universe. In particular, if the lifetime is long enough, they may cause cosmological disasters. We revisit the issue of coherent oscillation of the scalar field when it couples with another oscillating scalar field, and find a situation that the abundance, or the amplitude of the oscillation, is significantly reduced by a variant type of the adiabatic suppression mechanism. As a concrete example, it is applied to the saxion, a flat direction in the supersymmetric axion model, and we show that the cosmological saxion problem is solved in a particular setup.

Cosmological and astrophysical constraints on superconducting cosmic strings

We investigate the cosmological and astrophysical constraints on superconducting cosmic strings (SCSs). SCS loops emit strong bursts of electromagnetic waves, which might affect various cosmological and astrophysical observations. We take into account the effect on the CMB anisotropy, CMB blackbody spectrum, BBN, observational implications on radio wave burst and X-ray or gamma-ray events, and stochastic gravitational wave background measured by pulsar timing experiments. We then derive constraints on the parameters of SCS from current observations and estimate prospects for detecting SCS signatures in on-going observations. As a result, we find that these constraints exclude broad parameter regions, and also that on-going radio wave observations can probe large parameter space.

Probing dark radiation with inflationary gravitational waves

Recent cosmological observations indicate the existence of extra light species, i.e., dark radiation. In this paper we show that signatures of the dark radiation are imprinted in the spectrum of inflationary gravitational waves. If the dark radiation is produced by the decay of a massive particle, high frequency mode of the gravitational waves are suppressed. In addition, due to the effect of the anisotropic stress caused by the dark radiation, a dip in the gravitational wave spectrum may show up at the frequency which enters the horizon at the time of the dark radiation production. Once the gravitational wave spectrum is experimentally studied in detail, we can infer the information on how and when the dark radiation was produced in the Universe.

Eluding the Gravitino Overproduction in Inflaton Decay

It is known that gravitinos are non-thermally produced in inflaton decay processes, which excludes many inflation models for a wide range of the gravitino mass. We find that the constraints from the gravitino overproduction can be greatly relaxed if the supersymmetry breaking field is much lighter than the inflaton, and if the dynamical scale of the supersymmetry breaking is higher than the inflaton mass. In particular, we show that many inflation models then become consistent with the pure gravity mediation with O(100)TeV gravitino which naturally explains the recently observed Higgs boson mass of about 125GeV.

Peccei-Quinn extended gauge-mediation model with vector-like matter

We construct a gauge-mediated SUSY breaking model with vector-like matters combined with the Peccei-Quinn mechanism to solve the strong CP problem. The Peccei-Quinn symmetry plays an essential role for generating sizable masses for the vector-like matters and the $μ$-term without introducing dangerous CP angle. The model naturally explains both the 125GeV Higgs mass and the muon anomalous magnetic moment. The stabilization of the Peccei-Quinn scalar and the cosmology of the saxion and axino are also discussed.

A Solution to the mu/Bmu Problem in Gauge Mediation with Hidden Gauge Symmetry

We propose a solution to the mu/Bmu problem in gauge-mediated SUSY breaking, which does not suffer from the SUSY CP problem and is consistent with the solution to the strong CP problem. The model is based on Z_3-invariant NMSSM with additional vector-like matter charged under a hidden gauge group as well as the standard model gauge groups. The dynamical scale of the hidden gauge symmetry is set to be around 10 GeV. We show that this simple extension of the NMSSM resolves the domain wall problem and the mu/Bmu problem without a dangerous CP angle. The relative sign among gaugino masses and the mu parameter can be preferable in terms of the muon anomalous magnetic moment. We also discuss cosmological issues of this model, especially the effects of long-lived particles in the hidden gauge sector. The hidden glueball may cause a late-time entropy production, which opens up a possibility that the light gravitino can be a dominant component of dark matter while leptogenesis scenarios work successfully. There is a region where the electroweak symmetry is successfully broken with ~10 TeV stops, and the Higgs mass of ~125 GeV can be explained.

Non-Gaussian isocurvature perturbations in dark radiation

We study non-Gaussian properties of the isocurvature perturbations in the dark radiation, which consists of the active neutrinos and extra light species, if exist. We first derive expressions for the bispectra of primordial perturbations which are mixtures of curvature and dark radiation isocurvature perturbations. We also discuss CMB bispectra produced in our model and forecast CMB constraints on the nonlinearity parameters based on the Fisher matrix analysis. Some concrete particle physics motivated models are presented in which large isocurvature perturbations in extra light species and/or the neutrino density isocurvature perturbations as well as their non-Gaussianities may be generated. Thus detections of non-Gaussianity in the dark radiation isocurvature perturbation will give us an opportunity to identify the origin of extra light species and lepton asymmetry.

Cosmological Moduli Problem in Low Cutoff Theory

We show that the cosmological moduli problem is solved, without relying on huge late-time entropy production, if the universal cutoff scale of the theory is a few orders of magnitude smaller than the Planck scale. We obtain a general estimate of the modulus abundance in terms of the inflationary scale and the reheating temperature, and find in particular that the reheating temperature can be high enough for the non-thermal leptogenesis to work.
