Non-uniqueness in law of three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system forced by random noise

We prove non-uniqueness in law of the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system that is forced by random noise of an additive and a linear multiplicative type and has viscous and magnetic diffusion, both of which are weaker than a full Laplacian. We apply convex integration to both equations of velocity and magnetic fields in order to obtain the non-uniqueness in law in the class of probabilistically strong solutions.

Non-uniqueness in law for Boussinesq system forced by random noise

Non-uniqueness in law for three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations forced by random noise was established recently in Hofmanov$\acute{\mathrm{a}}$ et al. (2019, arXiv:1912.11841 [math.PR]). The purpose of this work is to prove non-uniqueness in law for the Boussinesq system forced by random noise. Diffusion within the equation of its temperature scalar field has a full Laplacian and the temperature scalar field can be initially smooth.

Non-uniqueness in law of three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations diffused via a fractional Laplacian with power less than one half

Non-uniqueness of three-dimensional Euler equations and Navier-Stokes equations forced by random noise, path-wise and more recently even in law, have been proven by various authors. We prove non-uniqueness in law of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations forced by random noise and diffused via a fractional Laplacian that has power between zero and one half. The solution we construct has H$\ddot{\mathrm{o}}$lder regularity with a small exponent rather than Sobolev regularity with a small exponent. For the power sufficiently small, the non-uniqueness in law holds at the level of Leray-Hopf regularity. In particular, in order to handle transport error, we consider phase functions convected by not only a mollified velocity field but a sum of that with a mollified Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process if noise is additive and a product of that with a mollified exponential Brownian motion if noise is multiplicative.

Approximating three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system forced by space-time white noise

The magnetohydrodynamics system consists of the Navier-Stokes and Maxwell's equations, coupled through multiples of nonlinear terms. Such a system forced by space-time white noise has been studied by physicists for decades, and the rigorous proof of its solution theory has been recently established in Yamazaki (2019, arXiv:1910.04820 [math.AP]) using the theory of paracontrolled distributions and a technique of coupled renormalizations. When an equation is well-posed, and it is approximated by replacing the differentiation operator by reasonable discretization schemes with a parameter, it is widely believed that a solution of the approximating equation should converge to the solution of the original equation as the parameter approaches zero. We prove otherwise in the case of the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system forced by space-time white noise. Specifically, it is proven that the limit of the solution to the approximating system with an additional 32 drift terms solves the original system. These 32 drift terms depend on the choice of approximations, can be calculated explicitly in the process of renormalizations, and essentially represent a spatial version of It$\hat{\mathrm{o}}$-Stratonovich correction terms. In particular, the proof relies on the technique of coupled renormalizations again, as well as taking advantage of the special structure of the magnetohydrodynamics system on many occasions.

Ergodicity of a Galerkin approximation of three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system forced by a degenerate noise

Magnetohydrodynamics system consists of a coupling of the Navier-Stokes and Maxwell's equations and is most useful in studying the motion of electrically conducting fluids. We prove the existence of a unique invariant, and consequently ergodic, measure for the Galerkin approximation system of the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system. The proof is inspired by those of \cite{EM01, R04} on the Navier-Stokes equations; however, computations involve significantly more complications due to the coupling of the velocity field equations with those of magnetic field that consists of four non-linear terms.

Global stability and uniform persistence of the reaction-convection-diffusion cholera epidemic model

We study the global stability issue of the reaction-convection-diffusion cholera epidemic PDE model and show that the basic reproduction number serves as a threshold parameter that predicts whether cholera will persist or become globally extinct. Specifically, when the basic reproduction number is beneath one, we show that the disease-free-equilibrium is globally attractive. On the other hand, when the basic reproduction number exceeds one, if the infectious hosts or the concentration of bacteria in the contaminated water are not initially identically zero, we prove the uniform persistence result and that there exists at least one positive steady state.

A remark on the two-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamics-alpha system

We study the two-dimensional generalized magnetohydrodynamics-$α$ system with fractional Laplacians in the dissipative and diffusive terms. We show that the solution pair of velocity and magnetic fields preserves their initial regularity in all cases when the powers add up to one. This settles the global regularity issue in the general case which was remarked by the authors in [33] to be a problem.

On the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system in scaling-invariant spaces

We study the criterion for the velocity and magnetic vector fields that solve the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system, given any initial data sufficiently smooth, to experience a finite-time blowup. Following the work of [12] and making use of the structure of the system, we obtain a criterion that is imposed on the magnetic vector field and only one of the three components of the velocity vector field, both in scaling-invariant spaces.

Regularity criteria of the three-dimensional MHD system involving one velocity and one vorticity component

We obtain a regularity criteria of the solution to the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system to remain smooth for all time involving only one velocity and one vorticity component. Moreover, the norm in space and time with which we impose our criteria for the vorticity component is at the scaling invariant level. The proof requires a new decomposition of the four non-linear terms making use of a new identity due to the divergence-free conditions of the velocity and the magnetic vector fields.

Regularity criterion of the 4D Navier-Stokes equations involving two velocity field components

We study the Serrin-type regularity criteria for the solutions to the four-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and magnetohydrodynamics system. We show that the sufficient condition for the solution to the four-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations to preserve its initial regularity for all time may be reduced from a bound on the four-dimensional velocity vector field to any two of its four components, from a bound on the gradient of the velocity vector field to the gradient of any two of its four components, from a gradient of the pressure scalar field to any two of its partial derivatives. Results are further generalized to the magnetohydrodynamics system. These results may be seen as a four-dimensional extension of many analogous results that exist in the three-dimensional case and also component reduction results of many classical results.

On the global regularity of two-dimensional generalized magnetohydrodynamics system

We study the two-dimensional generalized magnetohydrodynamics system with dissipation and diffusion in terms of fractional Laplacians. In particular, we show that in case the diffusion term has the power $β= 1$, in contrast to the previous result of $α\geq \frac{1}{2}$, we show that $α> \frac{1}{3}$ suffices in order for the solution pair to remain smooth for all time.

Remarks on the global regularity of two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics system with zero dissipation

We study the two-dimensional generalized magnetohydrodynamics system with generalized dissipation and diffusion in terms of fractional Laplacians. It is known that the classical magnetohydrodynamics system with full Laplacians in both dissipation and diffusion terms admits a unique global strong solution pair. Making use of the special structure of the system in the two-dimensional case, we show in particular that the solution pair remains smooth when we have zero dissipation but only magnetic diffusion with its power of the fractional Laplacian $β> \frac{3}{2}$.

Remarks on the regularity criteria of generalized MHD and Navier-Stokes systems

We study the regularity criteria of the three dimensional generalized MHD and Navier-Stokes systems. In particular, we show that the regularity criteria of the generalized MHD system may be reduced to depend only on two diagonal entries of the Jacobian matrix of the velocity vector field or one vorticity component and one entry of the Jacobian matrix of the velocity vector field.

A Remark on the Global Well-posedness of a Modified Critical Quasi-geostrophic Equation

The $β$-generalized quasi-geostrophic equation is studied in the range of $α\in (0, 1), β\in (1/2, 1), 1/2 < α+ β< 3/2$. When $α\in (1/2, 1), β\in (1/2, 1)$ such that $1 \leq α+ β< 3/2$, using the method introduced in [12] and [9], we prove global regularity of the unique and analytic solution and when $α\in (0, 1/2), β\in (1/2, 1)$ such that $1/2 < α+ β< 1$, that there exists a constant such that $\lVert \nablaθ_{0}\rVert_{L^{\infty}}^{2-2α-2β}\lVertθ_{0}\rVert_{L^{\infty}}^{2α+ 2β- 1} \leq c_{α,β}$ implies global regularity.
