Violation of the Leggett-Garg inequality in photon-graviton conversion

The Leggett-Garg inequality (LGI) is a temporal analogue of Bell's inequality and provides a quantitative test of the nonclassicality of a system through its violation. We analytically investigate the violation of the LGI in the context of photon-graviton conversion in a magnetic field background, motivated by its potential applications to testing the nonclassicality of gravity. When gravitational perturbations are quantized as gravitons, the conversion of an initial single photon state gives rise to a superposition of photon and graviton states. We show that the temporal correlations obtained from successive projective measurements on the photon-graviton system violate the LGI. Observation of such a violation would provide a novel avenue for probing the quantum nature of gravity.

Imprints of Dark Photons on Gravitational Wave Polarizations

We study conversion processes between gravitons and dark photons and reveal the effects of dark photons on the polarization of gravitational waves. Considering cosmological dark magnetic fields, we investigate the evolution of the intensity and polarization of gravitational waves through the conversion. Specifically, we demonstrate that for minimal coupling between gravitons and dark photons, the intensity, circular polarization, and linear polarization evolve separately. We derive explicit formulas for the statistical mean and variance of the intensity and polarization when the gravitational waves pass through magnetic fields with random orientation. The formulas capture how the initial polarization of dark photons will be imprinted on the observed gravitational wave background.

Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis on a bubble universe nucleated in Kerr-AdS$_5$ Black Hole

We present the Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) simulation with a bubble universe scenario around a rotating black hole (BH) in Kerr-AdS$_5$ spacetime to explain recently updated observations of light elements such as the primordial helium abundance. In this scenario, the geometry of the 4D-early Universe is described as a vacuum bubble that undergoes quasi-de Sitter expansion in Kerr-AdS$_5$ spacetime. We find that the BH mass and spin parameter, which show an anti-correlation against the total radiation, are important to resolve the ${}^4{\rm He}$ anomaly. The present results provide clues to finding a connection between the observed results of light-element nucleosynthesis and the scenario of the 4D-bubble universe in AdS$_5$ spacetimes.

A peak in the power spectrum of primordial gravitational waves induced by primordial dark magnetic fields

Dark gauge fields have been discussed as candidates for dark matter recently. If they existed, primordial dark magnetic fields during inflation would have existed. It is believed that primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) arise out of quantum fluctuations during inflation. We study the graviton-dark photon conversion process in the presence of background primordial dark magnetic fields and find that the process induces the tachyonic instability of the PGWs. As a consequence, a peak appears in the power spectrum of PGWs. It turns out that the peak height depends on the direction of observation. The peak frequency could be in the range from $10^{-5}$ to $10^{3}$ Hertz for GUT scale inflation. Hence, the observation of PGWs could provide a new window for probing primordial dark magnetic fields.

Impact of quantum entanglement induced by magnetic fields on primordial gravitational waves

There exist observational evidence to believe the existence of primordial magnetic fields generated during inflation. We study primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) during inflation in the presence of magnetic fields sustained by a gauge kinetic coupling. In the model, not only gravitons as excitations of PGWs, but also photons as excitations of electromagnetic fields are highly squeezed. They become entangled with each other through graviton to photon conversion and vice versa. We derive the reduced density matrix for the gravitons and calculate their entanglement entropy. It turns out that the state of the gravitons is not a squeezed state but a mixed state. Although witnessing such an entanglement is not feasible at present, it would be an important experimental challenge.

Anisotropic warm inflation

Anisotropic inflation is a model succeeded in explaining statistical anisotropy. Warm inflation is a model succeeded in providing a mechanism of reheating during inflation. We study anisotropic warm inflation focusing on the cosmic no-hair conjecture. In the anisotropic warm inflation, the condition for making anisotropy survived is clarified. By assuming a constant value for the dissipation ratio, we find exact solutions of power-law anisotropic warm inflation, and investigate the phase space structure of general solutions. It turns out that whether the anisotropy during inflation survives or not depends on the competition of the potential that drive anisotropic inflation against dissipation of an inflaton field. Anisotropic warm inflation will be realized if the decaying process is not efficient.

dS${}_4$ universe emergent from Kerr-AdS${}_5$ spacetime: bubble nucleation catalyzed by a black hole

The emergence of a four-dimensional de Sitter (dS${}_4$) universe on an expanding bubble in the five-dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS${}_5$) background has been suggested as a possible cosmological scenario. It is motivated by the difficulties in the realization of a stable de Sitter vacua in string theory. The bubble can be nucleated in a meta-stable pure AdS${}_5$ spacetime, but it is known that a pure AdS spacetime is non-perturbatively unstable. It means that the pure AdS${}_5$ background is an idealized situation, and in realistic situations, non-linear perturbations in AdS may lead to the formation of black holes due to the gravitational turbulent instability. To investigate how the proposed scenario works in a more realistic situation, we here study the nucleation process of a vacuum bubble in the Kerr-AdS${}_5$ spacetime. Especially we investigate conditions sufficient to ensure the nucleation of a vacuum bubble with a rotating black hole and how the black hole affects the transition rate. We find that even in the Kerr-AdS${}_5$ spacetime, a quasi-dS${}_4$ expansion can be realized on the nucleated vacuum bubble without contradicting the de Sitter swampland conjectures.

Conversion of squeezed gravitons into photons during inflation

It is believed that relic gravitons are squeezed during inflation. If so, quantum noise induced by them can be significantly enhanced in current interferometers. However, decoherence of the gravitons during cosmic history may change the degree of squeezing. As a first step for analyzing the decoherence of the gravitons, we assume the presence of a sizable magnetic field at the beginning of inflation and study conversion processes of the squeezed gravitons into photons during inflation in the case of minimal coupling between gravitons and photons. We solve the dynamical evolution of a coupled system of gravitons and photons perturbatively and obtain squeezing parameters for the system numerically and analytically. It turns out that the gravitons are robust against the decoherence caused by the cosmological magnetic fields. We also find that the conversion rate of gravitons into photons is at a few percent at most.

Relativistic quantum bouncing particles in a homogeneous gravitational field

In this paper, we study the relativistic effect on the wave functions for a bouncing particle in a gravitational field. Motivated by the equivalence principle, we investigate the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations in Rindler coordinates with the boundary conditions mimicking a uniformly accelerated mirror in Minkowski space. In the nonrelativistic limit, all these models in the comoving frame reduce to the familiar eigenvalue problem for the Schrödinger equation with a fixed floor in a linear gravitational potential, as expected. We find that the transition frequency between two energy levels of a bouncing Dirac particle is greater than the counterpart of a Klein-Gordon particle, while both are greater than their nonrelativistic limit. The different corrections to eigen-energies of particles of different nature are associated with the different behaviors of their wave functions around the mirror boundary.

Global study of the scalar quasi-normal modes of Kerr-AdS${}_5$ black holes: Stability, thermality, and horizon area quantization

We numerically explore the structure of quasi-normal (QN) frequencies of the five-dimensional small and large Kerr-anti de Sitter (Kerr-AdS${}_5$) black hole with equal and unequal rotations. Our investigation also covers low and high Hawking temperatures. We then study the stability of the Kerr-AdS${}_5$ black hole and the structure of highly damped QN modes, which would reflect the thermodynamic property of the Kerr-AdS${}_5$ black hole. We find that the highly damped complex QN frequencies of a nearly maximally spinning Kerr-AdS${}_5$ black hole have the periodic separation of the surface gravity at the horizon in the imaginary part while the real part converges to the superradiant frequency, which may be relevant to the pole structure of the thermal Green's function in the corresponding conformal field theory on the Kerr-AdS${}_5$ boundary. Finally, we discuss a relation between the QN modes of the Kerr-AdS${}_5$ black hole and the Hod's conjecture on the horizon area quantization along with the analysis of the horizon topology of the Kerr-AdS${}_5$ black hole. We show that in general, an ultra-spinning Kerr-AdS${}_5$ black hole, whose spin parameter is infinitesimally close to the AdS curvature radius, has its non-compact horizon, and based on the Hod's conjecture, we argue that the horizon area may be continuous, that is, the unit area of the horizon vanishes in the ultra-spinning regime.

Entanglement of the Vacuum between Left, Right, Future, and Past: Dirac spinor in Rindler spaces and Kasner spaces

We study the relations of the positive frequency mode functions of Dirac field in 4-dimensional Minkowski spacetime covered with Rindler and Kasner coordinates, and describe the explicit form of the Minkowski vacuum state with the quantum states in Kasner and Rindler regions, and analytically continue the solutions. As a result, we obtain the correspondence of the positive frequency mode functions in Kasner region and Rindler region in a unified manner which derives vacuum entanglement.

Vacuum decays around spinning black holes

We investigate a vacuum decay around a spinning seed black hole by using the Israel junction condition and conclude that the spin of black hole would suppress a vacuum decay rate compared to that for a non-spinning case, provided that the surface of vacuum bubble has its ellipsoidal shape characterized by the Kerr geometry. We also find out that in the existence of a near-extremal black hole, a false vacuum state can be more stabilized than the case of the Coleman-de Luccia solution. A few necessary assumptions to carry the calculations are discussed.

Entanglement of the Vacuum between Left, Right, Future, and Past: The Origin of Entanglement-Induced Quantum Radiation

The Minkowski vacuum state is expressed as an entangled state between the left and right Rindler wedges when it is constructed on the Rindler vacuum. In this paper, we further examine the entanglement structure and extend the expression to the future (expanding) and past (shrinking) Kasner spacetimes. This clarifies the origin of the quantum radiation produced by an Unruh--DeWitt detector in uniformly accelerated motion in the four-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. We also investigate the two-dimensional massless case where the quantum radiation vanishes but the same entanglement structure exists.

Entanglement-induced quantum radiation

Quantum entanglement of the Minkowski vacuum state between left and right Rindler wedges generates thermal behavior in the right Rindler wedge, which is known as the Unruh effect. In this letter, we show that there is another consequence of this entanglement, namely entanglement-induced quantum radiation emanating from a uniformly accelerated object. We clarify why it is in agreement with our intuition that incoming and outgoing energy fluxes should cancel each other out in a thermalized state.
