Janus Dipoles: Fundamentals, Realizations, and Emerging Applications

The Janus dipole - featuring orthogonally oriented electric and magnetic dipoles with a 90-degree phase difference - has emerged as a powerful paradigm for wave manipulation. Unlike traditional Huygens dipoles used for directional control, this unique configuration exhibits strongly asymmetric, face-selective near-field behavior while maintaining a quasi-isotropic far-field radiation pattern. These remarkable properties make the Janus dipole an essential platform for directional wave shaping, with wide-ranging applications in on-chip photonics, quantum interactions, and wireless power transfer. This review systematically traces the rapid development of the Janus dipole from its foundational theoretical inception to its diverse implementation platforms across optical, microwave, and acoustic frequencies. In this paper, we explore the governing principles, classify realization strategies into passive Janus dipoles, active Janus dipoles, and advanced near-field coupling control, and highlight emerging frontiers. By bridging foundational electrodynamics with advanced device engineering, this paper serves as an essential reference and roadmap for researchers designing next-generation, highly integrated, and compact wave-manipulation systems.

A visual large language foundational model for medical image recognition using clinician-oriented social media

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated strong capabilities across diverse domains, showing considerable potential in medicine. However, their application in medical settings remains limited by the scarcity of visual question answering (VQA) datasets that capture clinical reasoning and explicit image-text alignment. Here, we leverage de-identified medical images and expert commentaries shared on clinician-oriented social media. By combining an advanced LLM with clinician-in-the-loop verification, we established a rigorous pipeline to construct ThoughtMed-1M, a long-form medical VQA dataset containing over one million VQA pairs and designed to capture structured clinical logic and medical image-text alignment. To demonstrate its utility, we developed a FOundational LLM Trained on ThoughtMed-1M (FOLTMed). FOLTMed achieved state-of-the-art performance across 42 medical VQA benchmark datasets, with a macro accuracy of 85.4%, and generated more clinically coherent responses on the ThoughtMed-1M test set. It outperformed state-of-the-art models by 3--5% across factuality and similarity metrics, highlighting a scalable paradigm for advancing research on clinically grounded multimodal LLMs.

Failure of analyticity-radius growth in energy-canceling fluid models

We prove that exact quadratic energy cancellation alone does not force growth of the spatial analyticity radius. On $\mathbb{T}^3$, we construct an explicit symmetric, translation-invariant, first-order bilinear operator $Q$ that preserves the divergence-free class and, for every smooth real-valued divergence-free vector field $v$, satisfies $ \int_{\mathbb{T}^3} Q(v,v)\cdot v\,dx=0.$ For every prescribed sufficiently small time $T>0$, the equation $\partial_t u-\Delta u=Q(u,u)$ admits a global smooth, real-valued, mean-zero, divergence-free solution $u$ such that $\operatorname{rad}(u(0))=\operatorname{rad}(u(T))=1$. The construction reduces the dynamics on an invariant cyclic-shear class to viscous Burgers and tunes a Cole-Hopf heat profile so that its nearest complex zero returns to its initial distance from the real torus. For every $1<\alpha<2$ and every prescribed sufficiently small $T>0$, we also construct a symmetric sparse frequency set, its associated Fourier projection, and trigonometric-polynomial initial data for the projected dissipative surface quasi-geostrophic equation. The resulting unique global smooth solution $\theta$ has infinite analyticity radius initially but satisfies $0<\operatorname{rad}(\theta(T))\leq1$. An additively separated Fourier cascade yields coefficientwise exponential lower bounds, while uniform comparison estimates control the feedback interactions. Thus entire analyticity need not persist even from trigonometric-polynomial data. Together, the two constructions show that an exact energy identity alone does not determine the frequency geometry governing analyticity-radius growth.

CoLT-Drive: Counterfactual Long-Tail Benchmarking and Knowledge-Preserving Adaptation for Driving Affordance Prediction

Long-tail autonomous driving failures are often framed as rare-object recognition errors. We argue that this view is incomplete: the decision-critical question is not only whether a model recognizes an unusual object, but whether it infers how that object changes the ego vehicle's feasible high-level actions. We formalize this problem as decision-level driving affordance prediction, where a model maps a front-view image, ego-motion history, and navigation command to a structured longitudinal--lateral meta-action. To evaluate this capability, we introduce CoLT-Drive, a 3,536-sample counterfactual long-tail benchmark that inserts rare objects into otherwise fixed driving scenes and measures whether models predict acceptable action pairs. To improve deployable small VLMs, we propose KPA, a knowledge-preserving adaptation framework that combines structured perception-to-decision prompting, SLERP-based expert merging, and RegMoE, a regime-aware LoRA mixture-of-experts module. KPA preserves the pretrained model's open-world knowledge while allocating lightweight adaptation capacity to different driving decision regimes. Experiments on an in-domain driving split and CoLT-Drive show that KPA achieves 60.8\% pair accuracy on CoLT-Drive, outperforming the pretrained Qwen3-VL-2B baseline (50.3\%) and LoRA SFT (32.4\%) while maintaining competitive in-domain accuracy. Beyond Textual Chain-of-Thought: A Survey on Action-Grounded Reasoning in Autonomous Driving

Chain-of-thought (CoT) reasoning powers generative models by eliciting intermediate steps before producing an answer. In autonomous driving, the answer is a continuous action. Thus its reasoning must share the same spatiotemporal structure as the physical world. This survey studies the resulting shift from textual CoT to action-grounded reasoning. Surveying 171 papers, including 130 method papers and 41 benchmarks, datasets, surveys, and analysis papers, we propose a representation-centered taxonomy that treats the form of the intermediate state as the organizing axis. We systematize the 130 methods into four categories: language-based, visual-spatial, latent-dynamic, and externalized reasoning, further divided into 13 subtypes tied to distinct regions of interests. Our synthesis shows that the open frontier of reasoning in driving agents lies in intermediate representations that can be grounded in the real world, coupled to real-time action, and verified under safety-critical systems. Uncertainty-Aware Probabilistic Constrained Clustering from Entangled Pairwise Supervision

Pairwise constrained clustering typically relies on hard must-link/cannot-link labels, whereas realistic pairwise supervision may be real-valued and entangle intrinsic ambiguity, expert judgment, and stochastic corruption. Existing deep constrained clustering (DCC) methods mainly target hard, expert-agnostic constraints, treating soft labels mostly numerically rather than semantically. We formalize this setting as uncertainty-aware probabilistic constrained clustering (UPCC), defining a canonical aleatoric target through a heterogeneous observation process and analyzing its conditional identifiability. We introduce ProbPair, an angular pairwise objective for probabilistic relations, and build ECI-PP, an estimator--corrector--integrator framework that refines imperfect supervision via belief estimation, correction, and reliability-aware integration. Across challenging probabilistic supervision settings, experiments on diverse benchmarks show that ECI-PP outperforms state-of-the-art DCC methods and remains robust with a shared default configuration.

VoiceDesigner: Text-to-Voice Generation and Editing via Unified Diffusion Modeling and Data Augmentation

Recent breakthroughs in generative models have made text-to-voice generation (TTV) possible, enabling the synthesis of speech directly from textual voice descriptions. However, existing systems face two key challenges. First, they struggle to generate a diverse range of voices, spanning real-world human speakers and fictional characters. Second, they lack robust and flexible voice editing capabilities, such as voice cloning and the ability to modify attributes like emotion and tone. In this paper, we propose VoiceDesigner, a unified framework for text-to-voice generation and editing that supports diverse and controllable voice design. To tackle the above challenges, we propose solutions from two perspectives. First, we develop a hybrid data pipeline that leverages digital signal processing techniques and speech generation models to construct a diverse voice dataset covering both real-world and fictional voices. Second, we introduce a diffusion transformer with architectural improvements to better handle complex conditioning and enhance multi-task performance, enabling unified voice generation and editing. Through subjective and objective evaluations, VoiceDesigner achieves superior prompt alignment with both voice descriptions and editing instructions, while maintaining competitive perceptual quality and voice usability compared to state-of-the-art TTV models.

ControlRadio: Prompt-Driven Controllable Diffusion for Cross-Modal Radio Map Generation

Radio maps describe how wireless signals propagate across space and are essential for wireless communication, sensing, and network planning. However, constructing accurate radio maps traditionally requires either dense measurements or computationally expensive physical simulations, which limits scalability and real-time deployment. Recent advances in generative artificial intelligence offer a promising alternative, but existing approaches lack fine-grained control and physical consistency when applied to real-world wireless environments. Here we present \textbf{ControlRadio}, a controllable generative framework that produces radio maps from natural-language descriptions and environmental layouts, including building structures and transmitter locations. Joint semantic and spatial conditioning enables interpretable, propagation-plausible generation, while a controlled latent prior and layout-aware conditioning improve stability and structural consistency. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ControlRadio achieves state-of-the-art accuracy and strong generalization across diverse urban scenarios, while reducing computation time by more than four orders of magnitude compared with conventional simulation-based methods. Such results suggest a new paradigm for scalable and controllable wireless environment modeling, with broad implications for next-generation communication systems and data-driven radio sensing.

OccAnyScene: Towards Unified Indoor-Outdoor 3D Occupancy Prediction

3D occupancy prediction is fundamental to scene understanding, yet existing 3D semantic occupancy methods are typically specialized to fixed scene types and occupancy protocols. We introduce Cross-Scene 3D Semantic Occupancy Prediction, a new task setting which requires a single model to handle heterogeneous indoor and outdoor scenes with varying cameras, spatial ranges, voxel specifications, and semantic taxonomies. This setting poses a fundamental challenge: achieving metric-consistent yet scene-adaptive image-to-3D lifting across varying camera configurations and scene scales. To address this challenge, we propose OccAnyScene, a pixel-frustum-centered Gaussian framework built upon a pretrained depth foundation model. Specifically, the framework employs Pixel-Aligned Frustum Feature Aggregation to construct a camera-aware frustum query for each feature pixel, and Frustum-Parameterized Gaussian Construction to decode each query into multiple Gaussians whose positions and sizes are constrained by the predicted pixel depth and corresponding frustum geometry. OccAnyScene sets new state-of-the-art results, achieving 59.92% mIoU on the indoor Occ-ScanNet and 23.06% mIoU on the outdoor SurroundOcc-nuScenes.

Well-posedness for the mean curvature flow on the half-space and on bounded domains

We study graphical mean curvature flow in arbitrary codimension over the half-space and over smooth bounded domains, subject to homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. At the scaling-critical Lipschitz regularity, we prove local well-posedness for initial graphs that can be approximated in $W^{1,\infty}$ by smooth profiles compatible with the boundary condition. Within this class, if the initial Lipschitz seminorm is sufficiently small, the corresponding solution is global; on a bounded domain, it also converges exponentially to the flat graph. Positive-time regularization is quantified by time-weighted H\"older estimates whose weighted quantities remain bounded as $t\downarrow0$. The main analytic ingredient is a boundary Schauder theory for variable-coefficient parabolic systems. On the half-space, it combines coefficient freezing with parity extensions and boundary identities intrinsic to the graphical system. On curved domains, localization and boundary flattening lead to anisotropic estimates, from which normal derivatives are recovered recursively.

ScaleSense: Cost-Intelligent Scaling Framework via Learned Resource Estimation in Alibaba AnalyticDB

Cloud-native serverless data warehouses achieve fine-grained elasticity by decoupling storage from compute, yet determining the optimal resource allocation for highly heterogeneous ad-hoc queries remains a formidable industrial challenge. Our analysis of production workloads in Alibaba AnalyticDB exposes a costly ``provisioning trap'': the fear of catastrophic resource depletion drives users to blindly over-provision resources, wasting immense monetary budgets without alleviating non-CPU bottlenecks (e.g., I/O saturation). To break this impasse, we propose ScaleSense, a proactive, query-level resource scaling framework. Specifically, it features a multi-faceted query encoder that jointly models plan topologies and hardware specifications. Crucially, a quantile-based resource predictor estimates multi-dimensional physical footprints, acting as a reliable safety net for optimal resource scaling. An auto-scaling controller then navigates the performance-cost Pareto frontier, dynamically tailoring allocations to specific business priorities without requiring model retraining. Evaluations on over 1.36 million production queries show that ScaleSense achieves state-of-the-art prediction accuracy with good prediction interval coverage. By achieving a 76.7% relative improvement in optimal resource configuration selection over the best baseline, this approach addresses the critical performance-cost trade-off while maintaining low-overhead inference latency, confirming its practical performance in production deployments. Under the performance-optimization policy, ScaleSense satisfies user-defined performance requirements while reducing monetary cost by up to 5.22x.

Guixu: Valuation-Driven Data Discovery for Autonomous AI Agents with On-Chain Attestation

Autonomous agents increasingly rely on external data to complete downstream tasks such as model training and decision support. However, existing data discovery systems remain largely retrieval-oriented: they surface candidate datasets from heterogeneous sources, but provide limited support for estimating task-specific utility, selecting cost-effective datasets under budget constraints, or incorporating trustworthy feedback from prior usage. This paper presents Guixu, a valuation-driven data discovery system for autonomous agents. Guixu employs a three-phase valuation pipeline with proxy-label propagation and multi-round knapsack optimization for task-aware data valuation. Guixu integrates agentic payment protocol to enable budget-constrained data procurement workflows. Guixu leverages on-chain data market and attestation signals for verifiable data discovery. Our demonstration highlights how Guixu enables an agent to move beyond keyword-based dataset retrieval toward task- and budget-aware, trustworthy data discovery and procurement. Attendees can interactively explore the full workflow, from NL task specification and multi-source search to data valuation and verifiable transaction feedback.

Balancing Efficiency and Efficacy: Training-Free Attention-Guided Switching Between Explicit and Latent Thoughts for MLLMs

Reasoning in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) requires both fine-grained visual perception and rigorous logical deduction. Explicit text-based Chain-of-Thought (CoT) is computationally expensive and prone to visual hallucinations, while existing latent reasoning methods typically require costly training. Furthermore, directly adapting training-free LLM reasoning mechanisms to the multimodal setting yields unstable performance. We identify that this failure stems from their reliance on token-level entropy, which fundamentally conflates perceptual ambiguity (e.g., unclear visual details) with logical uncertainty (e.g., complex reasoning steps). To overcome this bottleneck, we present a novel training-free inference strategy for MLLMs that explicitly decouples perception and reasoning. We propose a novel metric, the vision-to-text attention ratio, to dynamically gauge the model's cognitive focus. Guided by this metric, our proposed framework, Attention-Guided Switching (AGS), adaptively triggers latent reasoning for perceptual tokens to preserve high-fidelity visual information in the continuous space, while enforcing explicit text generation for logical tokens to maintain structural anchoring. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance, significantly improving both accuracy and inference efficiency by reducing autoregressive steps and latency. Code is released at https://github.com/swordAndSnow/MM26-AGS.

A 3-D Hybrid Numerical Method for Simulating Electromagnetic Fields in Structures with Multiple Inhomogeneous Layered Media

A three-dimensional (3-D) hybrid numerical method (HNM) is presented for electromagnetic scattering in structures with multiple inhomogeneous layered media coupled to an arbitrary 3-D non-layered scattering region. It integrates the 3-D numerical mode-matching (NMM) method with a tree-cotree-based mixed finite element method (MFEM). In the NMM, the fields in the 3-D layered media are reduced to a superposition of 2-D waveguide eigenmodes, while the MFEM discretizes the 3-D scattering region. The HNM thus inherits the dimensionality-reduction advantages of both conventional hybrid MM/FEM and pure NMM. Numerical experiments show that the HNM provides an effcient alternative for scattering problems involving non-layered regions embedded in layered media.

BulkPR-Bench: Benchmarking Queue-Level Governance of Interacting Pull Requests

Coding-agent benchmarks increasingly cover long-horizon, end-to-end, and interactive development, but typically retain one requested outcome or a fixed change sequence. Sequential policies can process a pull-request (PR) queue one candidate at a time, but when queued PRs interact, maximizing safe delivery can require jointly deciding which changes to merge and in what order. We introduce BulkPR-Bench, an executable benchmark in which an agent must recover consequential PR relations and return a large safe subset in executable order under a rolling-release protocol. The suite contains 581 newly authored candidate PRs on frozen snapshots of 18 real repositories. Registered state-by-state repository execution, including hidden safety checks, validates the gold relation graph; an exact oracle then computes the largest safe subset. Our primary metric, Relational Delivery Score (RDS), scores safe delivery and correct rejection over relation groups from the realized merge trace; Global Safety-Gated Yield (Global-SGY) separately measures strict delivery of the realized whole-queue plan. Under the buffered primary protocol with batch size $K=32$, the three highest RDS estimates among the six models are 66.6%, 62.0%, and 57.9%, compared with 53.1% for the strongest sequential baseline. Only 8 of 324 model runs complete a queue exactly. Critical-relation recall ranges from 35.2% to 57.7%, and diagnostic runs supplied with the gold relations show substantial remaining headroom. Gains on relation groups therefore do not yet translate into dependable whole-queue governance.

RecGPT-V3 Technical Report

Large language models (LLMs) are transforming recommender systems from matching co-occurrence patterns in historical behavior toward reasoning about the intent that drives it. RecGPT-V1 pioneered this paradigm on Taobao by centering user understanding, and RecGPT-V2 scaled it via coordinated multi-agent reasoning; both are deployed in production with consistent gains in user experience and commercial outcomes. However, operating RecGPT at scale reveals three challenges: (1) stateless behavior modeling, where each request reprocesses full user history, wasting computation and discarding prior analysis; (2) a tag-to-item information bottleneck, where natural-language tags form a lossy channel between user understanding and item grounding; and (3) inefficient explicit reasoning, whose lengthy chain-of-thought incurs untenable latency and compute overhead. We present RecGPT-V3, a stateful, hybrid-modal recommender that reasons over natural language for open-world knowledge and Semantic IDs (SIDs) for concrete item grounding. A Memory Hub maintains structured, continually evolving user memory that distills long-horizon behavior into condensed units, cutting user-modeling computation by 55.8%. A Hybrid-modal Foundation Model allows the LLM jointly reason over text tags and SIDs, opening a high-bandwidth channel into the item space. Latent Intent Reasoning internalizes verbose rationales into compact learnable latent tokens that remain decodable into readable explanations, lowering output token cost by 200x. Deployed in Taobao's "Guess What You Like" feed, RecGPT-V3 achieves consistent gains in large-scale online A/B tests: IPV +1.28%, CTR +1.00%, TC +1.97%, GMV +3.97%, while cutting end-to-end serving resource consumption by 52.4%.

Impact of Residual Angular Chirp in a Petawatt-class Laser System on Laser-driven Proton Acceleration

Laser-driven proton acceleration has attracted considerable interest owing to its appealing potential in versatile applications including cancer therapy. Proton energies depend critically on the on-target intensities, yet the detrimental impact of focal spot degradation induced by spatiotemporal couplings on the acceleration remains insufficiently elucidated. In this study, we demonstrate that residual angular chirp (AC), stemming from minor misalignments of the grating compressor in a Petawatt-class laser system, acts as a critical bottleneck for proton acceleration. Experimental results reveal that even around 100 microradians of grating misalignment induces substantial focal-spot elongation and a pronounced reduction in peak intensity. By implementing an in situ spectral-blocking diagnostic, we effectively eliminated the residual AC and restored a near-diffraction-limited focus. This optimization led to a significant recovery of the on-target intensity, resulting in a twofold increase in the proton cutoff energy. Our work presents a successful demonstration of diagnosing and eliminating residual AC. This provides a practical reference for generating high-energy proton beams and supporting their diverse applications in a PW-class laser.

A Simultaneous Clustering and Tracking Algorithm for Capturing Cluster-Level Spatial Consistency in 6G Wireless Channels

Spatial consistency is a fundamental physical property of wireless channels that reflects the smooth evolution of the channel between spatial locations. At the cluster level, it requires similar multipath components (MPCs) remain grouped into the same clusters as the transceivers move, enabling consistent cluster tracking. Cluster-level spatial consistency is essential for realistic cluster-based channel models, especially for potential 6G techniques such as massive MIMO, integrated sensing and communication, and terahertz (THz) communication. However, existing clustering and tracking methods do not fully exploit spatial correlations of MPCs. In tracking-after-clustering, clustering and tracking are decoupled, while joint clustering-and-tracking mainly relies on cluster centers from the previous snapshot. In this work, we propose a Mahalanobis-distance-based simultaneous clustering and tracking (MD-SCT) algorithm to capture the joint distribution of clustered MPCs in the delay, angular and spatial domains. Under Mahalanobis distance, MPCs in successive snapshots are associated with existing clusters, thereby inherently tracking while clustering. The algorithm is further applied in the sub-THz band. Performance is evaluated using mean square successive difference and gradient change rate. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm yields smoother cluster evolution. This improves the reliability of clustered channels for spatial consistency modeling in 6G.
