Observational features of the rotating Bardeen black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter

By employing ray-tracing techniques, we investigate the shadow images of rotating Bardeen black holes surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter. In this work, two models are considered for the background light source, namely the celestial light source model and the thin accretion disk model. Regarding the celestial light source, the investigation focuses on the impact of variations in relevant parameters and observed inclination on the contour and size of the shadow. For the thin accretion disk model, the optical appearance of a black hole is evidently contingent upon the radiative properties exhibited by the accretion disk, as well as factors such as observed inclination and relevant parameters governing spacetime. With an increasing observation inclination, the observed flux of direct and lensed images of the accretion disk gradually converge towards the lower region of the image, while an increase in the dark matter parameter $a$ significantly expands the region encompassing both direct and lensed images. Furthermore, the predominant effect is redshift at lower observation angles, whereas the blueshift effect only becomes apparent at higher observation angles. Simultaneously, the increase in the observation inclination will amplify the redshift effect, whereas an increase in the magnetic charge $\mathcal{G}$, rotation parameter $a$ and the absolute value of dark matter parameter $α$ will attenuate the redshift effect observed in the image. These observations of a rotating Bardeen black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter could provide a convenient way to distinguish it from other black hole models.

The shadow and observational images of the non-singular rotating black holes in loop quantum gravity

By considering the celestial light source and the thin disk source, we employ the backward ray-tracing method to carefully study the shadow, inner shadow and observational images of the non-singular rotating black holes in loop quantum gravity. The results show that the increase of quantum parameter $λ$ causes the shadow to shrink, while increases the deviation from circularity. And, the shadow's angular diameter of M87* impose stronger constraints on the observed properties of the no-singulgar rotating black holes by comparing with SgrA*. For a celestial light source, the parameter $λ$ indeed influences the distortion of light around black hole shadow, but this effect is relatively small and only becomes noticeable when extremely close to the shadow. When a thin accretion disk around black hole, it turns out that for an observer at any position, the parameter $λ$ has little effect on the shape of the inner shadow. However, it decreases the size of the inner shadow, reduces the observed light intensity, and narrows the redshifted shadow images, regardless of whether the accretion disk is prograde or retrograde. Meanwhile, it is true that the thin disk images of black hole cannot effectively reflect the internal structure of black hole. Finally, we can conclude that a key observational feature of these non-singular rotating black holes is that the larger the black hole's spin parameter, the smaller the upper limit of $λ'$s effect. And, the parameter $λ$ decreases the gravitational field's strength, thereby weakens the observed images. This could provide a possible way to constraining black hole parameters, identifying quantum gravity effects, and distinguishing loop quantum gravity black holes, even if it cannot be used to distinguish the non-singular properties of black hole.

Holographic Einstein Rings of AdS Black Holes in Horndeski Theory

By utilizing the AdS/CFT correspondence and wave optics techniques, we conducted an extensive study of the imaging properties of holographic Einstein rings in the context of Anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes (BHs) in Horndeski theory. Our results indicate that the optical characteristics of these holographic Einstein rings are significantly influenced by the observer's position, the physical parameters of the BH, the nature of the wave source, and the configuration of the optical system. Specifically, when the observer is positioned at the north pole of the AdS boundary, the holographic image prominently displays a ring structure aligning with the BH's photon sphere. We thoroughly analyzed how various physical parameters -- including the observation position, event horizon radius, temperature, and the parameter $γ$ in Horndeski theory -- affect the holographic Einstein rings. These parameters play a crucial role in determining the rings' radius and brightness, with variations potentially causing the ring structures to deform or even transform into bright spots. Furthermore, our comparative analysis between wave optics and geometric optics reveals a strong agreement in predicting the positions and brightnesses of both the photon ring and the Einstein ring. This research offers new insights into the spacetime geometry of BHs in Horndeski theory and proposes a promising framework for exploring the gravitational duals of strongly coupled systems.

Shadows, Quasinormal Modes, and Optical Appearances of Black Holes in Horndeski Theory

This work describes the motion of photons in black hole (BH) spacetimes within the framework of Horndeski theory. We focus on the shadows, quasinormal modes (QNMs) and optical appearances of BHs surrounded by geometrically thin accretion disks. The QNMs of BHs are calculated by the WKB method and the eikonal limit, respectively. Using Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observations of $\mathrm{M} 87^*$ and $\mathrm{Sgr} \mathrm{A}^*$, we can constrain the parameter in Horndeski theory to a small range. Based on the constraint, we obtain the frequency ranges of the fundamental modes for $\mathrm{M} 87^*$ and $\mathrm{Sgr} \mathrm{A}^*$ in Horndeski theory. By exploring the optical appearances of BHs, we find that for the current resolution of the EHT, it primarily captures direct emission. This work advances our understanding of the observational characteristics of BHs in Horndeski theory and constrains Horndeski theory by EHT observations of $\mathrm{M} 87^*$ and $\mathrm{Sgr} \mathrm{A}^*$.

Triple points and phase transitions of D-dimensional dyonic AdS black holes with quasitopological electromagnetism in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

By considering the negative cosmological constant Λ as a thermodynamic pressure, we study the thermodynamics and phase transitions of the D-dimensional dyonic AdS black holes (BHs) with quasitopological electromagnetism in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. The results indicate that the small/large BH phase transition that is similar to the van der Waals (vdW) liquid/gas phase transition always exist for any space-time dimensions. But interestingly, we then find that this BH system exhibits a more complex phase structure in 6-dimensional case that missing in other dimensions. Specifically, it shows for D = 6 that we observed the small/intermediate/large BH phase transitions in a specific parameter region with the triple point naturally appeared. However, for the dyonic AdS BHs with quasitopological electromagnetism in Einstein gravity, the novel phase structure composed of two separate coexistence curves observed in [1] disappeared in EGB gravity. In addition, it is also true that the critical exponents calculated near the critical points possess identical values as mean field theory. Finally, we conclude that these findings shall provide some deep insights into the intriguing thermodynamic properties of the dyonic AdS BHs with quasitopological electromagnetism in EGB gravity.

Holographic Einstein rings of a Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole

Based on the AdS/CFT correspondence, we studied the holographic Einstein images of a Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole in the bulk from a given response function on AdS boundary. For the absolute amplitude of total response function, it shows that there always exists the interference pattern as the scalar wave passed through the black hole. And, the absolute amplitude depends closely on the properties of Gaussian source and spacetime geometry. More importantly, we also find that the holographic images always appears as a ring with the concentric stripe surrounded when the observer located at the north pole. At other positions, this ring will change into a luminosity-deformed ring, or two light points. In addition, the effects of Gauss-Bonnet parameter $α$, wave source and optical system on the holographic images have been carefully addressed throughout of paper. Finally, we conclude that the holographic images in different types of black holes with some different features may shed some deep insight on the existence of a gravity dual for a given material.

QED and accretion flow models effect on optical appearance of Euler-Heisenberg black holes

Taking the quantum electrodynamics (QED) effect into account, we investigate the geometrical-optics appearance of the Euler-Heisenberg (EH) black hole (BH) under the different accretion flows context, which depends on the BH space-time structure and different sources of light. The more significant magnetic charge leads to the smaller shadow radius for the EH BH, while the different values of the EH parameter do not ruin it. Different features of the corresponding two-dimensional shadow images are derived for the three optically thin accretion flow models. It is shown that the total observed intensity in the static spherical accretion flow scenario leads than that of the infalling spherical accretion flow under same parameters, but the size and position of the EH BH shadows do not change in both of these accretions flows, implying that the BH shadow size depends on the geometric space-time and the shadows luminosities rely on the accretion flow morphology. Of particular interest is that a thin disk accretion model illuminated the BH, we found that the contribution of the lensing ring to the total observed flux is less than 5\%, and the photon ring is less than 2\%, indicating that the direct emission dominates the optical appearance of the EH BH. It is also believed that the optical appearance of the BH image depends on the accretion disk radiation position in this scenario, which can serve as a probe for the disk structure around the active galactic nucleus (AGN) of M87^{*} like.

Effect of dark matter on shadows and rings of a brane-world black hole illuminated by various accretions

In this paper, by taking the accretions into account, the observational shadows and rings casted by the Brane-world black hole are numerically investigated when the observer located at the cosmological horizon. The results here show that the radius $r_p$ of photon sphere increased with cosmological parameter $α$ and dark matter parameter $β$, while the impact parameter $b_p$ decreased with $α$ and increased with $β$. For the thin-disk accretion, it turns out that the total observed intensity are mainly composed of the direct emission, while lensing ring and photon ring only contribute a small contribution and a negligible contribution, respectively. And, we find that shadow and rings exhibit some different and interesting features when the disk located at different positions. For the static and infalling spherical accretions, it is obvious that the size of shadow is always the same for both accretions, which means that shadow is only related to the geometry of space time in this case. The luminosity of shadow and photon sphere are closely related to the Doppler effect and the emissivity per unit volume $j({ν_e})$. In addition, the influence of dark matter and cosmological constant on observed intensity of shadows and rings are carefully emphasized throughout of this paper. Finally, we obtained the burring images of shadows and rings by using the nominal resolution of the Event Horizon Telescope, and studied the upper limits on the X-clod dark matter parameter $β$ with the aid of the data of the shadow of M87.

The shadow and photon sphere of the charged black hole in Rastall gravity

Considering a charged black hole (BH) surrounded by a perfect fluid radiation field (PFRF) in Rastall gravity, we investigate this BH shadow and photon sphere on different spherical accretions backgrounds. The effect of the PFRF parameter/BH charge on the critical impact parameter is studied by investigating the light deflection near this BH. The luminosity of these BH shadows in different spherical accretions is obtained, respectively. It is found that the shadow of this BH with infalling spherical accretion is darker than static spherical accretion, and the photon sphere with infalling spherical accretion is brighter than a static one. We creatively investigate the effects of the BH charge/PFRF parameter on the luminosity of BH shadow and photon sphere. The results implying that the BH shadow is a signature of space-time geometry, and the photon sphere luminosity is affected by accretion materials and BH itself.

The feature of shadow images and observed luminosity of the Bardeen black hole surrounded by different accretions

In this paper, by exploring the photon motion in the region near the Bardeen black hole, the shadow and observation properties of the black hole surrounded by various accretion models are studied. We analyzed the changes in shadow imaging and observation luminosity when the relevant physical parameters are changed. For the different spherical accretions background, one can find that the radius of shadow and the position of photon sphere do not change, but the observation intensity of shadow in the infalling accretion model is significantly lower than that of the static case. When the black hole is surrounded by an optically and thin disk accretion, the contribution of the photon rings, lensing rings and direct emission to the total observed flux has also been studied. Under the different forms of the emission modes, the result shows that the observed brightness is mainly determined by direct emission, while the lensing rings will provide a small part of the observation flux and the photon ring can provide a negligible observation flux. By comparing our results with the Schwarzschild spacetime, it is found that the existence or change of relevant status parameters will greatly affect the shape and observation intensity of black hole shadow. These results support that the change of state parameter will affect the spacetime structure, thus affecting the observation feature of black hole shadows.

The shadows and observational appearance of a noncommutative black hole surrounded by various profiles of accretions

The accretion around the black hole plays a pivotal role in the theoretical analysis of black hole shadow, and of the black hole observation in particular. In this paper, we mainly study the shadow and observation characteristics of noncommutative Schwarzschild black holes wrapped by three accretion models, and then explore the influence of noncommutative parameters on the observation appearance and spacetime geometry of black holes. When the black hole is surrounded by an optically and geometrically thin accretion disk, it shows that the direct emissions always dominate the total observed intensity, while the lensing ring superimposed upon the direct emission produces a thin ring, which improves the observation intensity of the black hole image. However, the photon rings makes a negligible contributions to the total observed brightness due to its exponential narrowness, although the photon ring intersects the thin plane more than three times to pick up larger intensity. More importantly, when the noncommutative parameters changed, the corresponding regions and observation intensities of photon ring, lensing ring and direct emission all change correspondingly. For optical thin spherically symmetric accretion, we consider the static and infalling matters, respectively. We find that the observation intensity of the two spherical accretion models increase with the increase of noncommutative parameters. In addition, due to the Doppler effect of the infalling movement, the shadow image of infalling accretion is darker than that of static accretion. In a word, the different accretion models and noncommutative parameters will lead to different shadow images and optical appearances of noncommutative Schwarzschild black holes.

Shadows and rings of the Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole surrounded by thin disk accretion

In this paper, under the illumination of thin disk accretion, we have employed the ray-tracing method to carefully investigate shadows and rings of the Kehagias-Sfetsos(KS) black hole in deformed Hořava-Lifshitz(HL) gravity. The results show that the event horizon $r_+$, the radius $r_p$ and impact parameter $b_{p}$ of photon sphere are all decreased with the increase of the HL parameter $ω$, but the effective potential increases. And, it also turns out that the trajectories of light rays emitted from the north pole direction are defined as the direct emission, lensing ring and photon ring of KS black hole, on the basis of orbits $n = ϕ/2π$. As black hole surrounded by thin disk accretion, we show that the corresponding transfer functions have their values increased with the parameter $ω$. More importantly, we also find that the direct emissions always dominate the total observed intensity, while lensing rings as a thin ring make a very small contribution and photon ring as a extremely narrow ring make a negligible contribution, for all three toy-model functions. In view of this, the results finally imply that shadows and rings as the observational appearance of KS black hole exhibit some obvious interesting features, which might be regarded as an effective way to distinguish black holes in HL gravity from the Schwarzschild black hole.

Testing thermodynamic laws and weak cosmic censorship conjecture of conformal anomaly corrected AdS black hole

By dropping particles into black hole, we have employed the recently new assumption [1] that the change of the black hole mass(enthalpy) should be the same amount as the energy of an infalling particle($ω= dM$), to carefully test the laws of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture of a conformal anomaly corrected AdS black hole in different phase spaces. Using the energy-momentum relation, the result shows that the first law, second law and weak cosmic censorship conjecture of black hole are all valid in the normal phase space, no violations occur. In the extended phase space, it firstly shows that the first law of black hole thermodynamics is always true in our case. Then, we interestingly find that if the condition ${d\ell} > -\left(P^r \ell^3\right)/{r_+^3}$ satisfied the variation of entropy is always positive, which means there would be no violation of the second law in the extend phase spaces. Also, it is true that there are always horizons by which the singularity is also covered. So, the configurations of the extremal and near-extremal black holes will not be changed, and there has no violation of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture. Finally, all of those conclusions are independent of the scalar curvature parameter $k$ and the conformal anomaly parameter $\tildeα$

Hayward black hole heat engine efficiency in anti-de Sitter space

In this paper, we attempt to further study the heat engine efficiency for the regular black hole (BH) with an anti-de Sitter (AdS) background where the working material is the Hayward-AdS (HAdS) BH. In the extended phase space, we investigate the heat engine efficiency of the HAdS BH by defining the cosmological constant as the thermodynamic pressure $P$ and deriving the mechanical work from the $PdV$ terms. Then, we obtain the relation between the efficiency and the entropy/pressure and plot these function figures. Meanwhile, we compare the relation between the HAdS BH with that of the Bardeen-AdS (BAdS) BH, which is found that the efficiency of the HAdS BH increase with increase the magnetic charge $q$ in contrast to that of the BAdS BH decrease with increase the magnetic charge $q$. We found that the HAdS BH is more efficient than the BAdS BH, and guess that is related to the BH structure.

Lorentz Violation, Quantum Tunneling and Information Conservation

In this paper, by introducing a Lorentz-invariance-violation (LIV) class of dispersion relations (DR) suppressed by the second power $(E/E_{QG})^2$, we have investigated the effect of LIV on the Hawking radiation of the charged Dirac particle via tunneling from a Reissner-Nordström(RN) black hole. We first find the effect of LIV speeds up the black hole evaporation, leaving the induced Hawking temperature very sensitive to the changes in the energy of the radiation particle, but at the same energy level, insensitive to the changes in the charge of the radiation particle. This provides a phenomenological evidence for the LIV-DR as a candidate for describing the effect of quantum gravity. Then, when the effect of LIV is included, we find the statistical correlations with the Planck-scale corrections between the successive emissions can leak out the information through the radiation. And, it turns out that the black hole radiation as tunneling is an entropy conservation process, and no information loss occurs during the radiation, where the interpretation for the entropy of black hole is addressed. Finally, we conclude that black hole evaporation is still an unitary process in the context of quantum gravity.

Thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture of an AdS black hole with a monopole in the extended phase space

The first law of black hole thermodynamics in the extended phase space is prevailing recently. However, the second law as well as the weak cosmic censorship conjecture has not been investigated extensively. In this paper, we investigate the laws of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture of an AdS black hole with a global monopole in the extended phase space under a charged particle absorption. It is shown that the first law of thermodynamics is valid, while the second law is violated for the extremal and near-extremal black holes. Moreover, we find the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is valid only for the extremal black hole, but is violable for the near-extremal black hole. It is different from the previous results where the high order corrections were neglected.

Violations of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture in the higher dimensional $f(R)$ black holes with pressure

We adopt the energy momentum relation of charged particles to study the thermodynamics laws and weak cosmic censorship conjecture of $D$-dimensional $f(R)$ AdS black holes in different phase spaces by considering charged particle absorption. In the normal phase space, it turns out that the laws of thermodynamic and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture are valid. In the extended phase space, though the first law of thermodynamics is valid, the second law of thermodynamics is invalid. More interestingly, the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is shown to be violated only in higher-dimensional near-extremal $f(R)$ AdS black holes. In addition, the magnitudes of the violations for both the second law and weak cosmic censorship conjecture are dependent on the charge $Q$, constant scalar curvature $f'(R_0)$, AdS radius $l$, dimension parameters $p$, and their variations.

Thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture of charged AdS black hole in the Rastall gravity with pressure

Treating the cosmological constant as a dynamical variable, we investigate the thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) of a charged AdS black hole (BH) in the Rastall gravity. We determine the energy momentum relation of charged fermion at the horizon of the BH by using the Dirac equation. Based on this relation, we show that the first law of thermodynamics (FLT) still holds as a fermion is absorbed by the BH. However, the entropy of both the extremal and near-extremal BH decreases in the irreversible process, which means that the second law of thermodynamics (SLT) is violated. Furthermore, we verify the validity of the WCCC by the minimum values of the metric function h(r) at its final state. For the extremal charged AdS BH in the Rastall gravity, we find that the WCCC is valid always since the BH is extreme. While for the case of near-extremal BH, we find the WCCC could be violable in the extended phase space (EPS), depending on the value of the parameters of the BH and their variations.
