Implication of the $W$ boson mass anomaly at CDF II in the Higgs triplet model with a mass difference

A new report for the measurement of the W boson mass has been provided by the CDF II experiment. The measured value of the W boson mass is given to be $m_W^{\text{CDF II}} = 80.4335 \pm 0.0094$ GeV which shows $7σ$ deviation from the standard model prediction, while the other groups of high energy experiments, e.g., ATLAS and D0 II, show consistent results with the latter. Assuming that the measurement at CDF II is correct, we discuss the possibility to explain the anomaly in the Higgs triplet model. We find that the anomaly can be explained under the constraints from the electroweak rho parameter, the effective weak mixing angle, the partial width of the leptonic $Z$ decay and current direct searches at LHC when non-zero mass differences among the triplet-like Higgs bosons and the vacuum expectation value of the triplet Higgs field are taken to be ${\cal O}(100)$ GeV and ${\cal O}(1)$ GeV, respectively.

Dark Sector as Origin of Light Lepton Mass and Its Phenomenology

We discuss a model with a dark sector, in which smallness of mass for charged leptons and neutrinos can naturally be explained by one-loop effects mediated by particles in the dark sector. These new particles, including dark matter candidates, also contribute to the anomalous magnetic dipole moment, denoted by $(g-2)$, for charged leptons. We show that our model can explain the muon $(g-2)$ anomaly and observed neutrino oscillations under the constraints from lepton flavor violating decays of charged leptons. We illustrate that the scenario with scalar dark matter is highly constrained by direct searches at the LHC, while that with fermionic dark matter allows for considering dark scalars with masses of order 100 GeV. Our scenario can be tested by a precise measurement of the muon Yukawa coupling as well as the direct production of dark scalar bosons at future electron-positron colliders.

CP-Violating 2HDMs Emerging from 3-3-1 Models

We investigate CP violating 2 Higgs doublet models as an effective theory emerging from models with an $SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry. Because of the extension of the electroweak symmetry, a characteristic structure of Yukawa interactions appears with new CP violating phases at the electroweak scale. In this scenario, the charged Higgs boson loop provides dominant and sizable contributions to the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) at one-loop level. We find that the prediction of the nEDM can be slightly smaller than the current upper limit, ${\cal O}(10^{-26})\,e\,\text{cm}$, with the mass of the charged Higgs boson and new CP violating phases to be a few hundred GeV and $\mathcal{O}(1)$, respectively, under the constraints from the meson mixings, the $B \to X_s γ$ decay and current LHC data.

Next-to-leading order corrections to decays of the heavier CP-even Higgs boson in the two Higgs doublet model

We investigate the impact of electroweak (EW), scalar and QCD corrections to the full set of decay branching ratios of an additional CP-even Higgs boson ($H$) in the two Higgs doublet model with a softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry. We employ the improved gauge independent on-shell scheme in the renormalized vertices. We particularly focus on the scenario near the alignment limit in which couplings of the discovered 125 GeV Higgs boson ($h$) coincide with those of the standard model while the $Hhh$ coupling vanishes at tree level. The renormalized decay rate for $H\to hh$ can significantly be changed from the prediction at tree level due to non-decoupling loop effects of additional Higgs bosons, even in the near alignment case. We find that the radiative corrections to the branching ratio of $H\to hh$ can be a few ten percent level in the case with the masses of additional Higgs bosons being degenerate under the constraints of perturbative unitarity, vacuum stability and the EW precision data. Further sizable corrections can be obtained for the case with a mass difference among the additional Higgs bosons.

Gravitational waves in models with multicritical-point principle

The multicritical-point principle (MPP) provides a natural explanation of the large hierarchy between the Planck and electroweak scales. We consider a scenario in which MPP is applied to the Standard Model extended by two real singlet scalar fields $ϕ$ and $S$, and a dimensional transmutation occurs by the vacuum expectation value of $ϕ$. In this paper, we focus on the critical points that possess a $\mathbb Z_2$ symmetry $S\rightarrow -S$ and all the other fields are left invariant. Then $S$ becomes a natural dark matter (DM) candidate. Further, we concentrate on the critical points where $ϕ$ does not possess further $\mathbb Z_2$ symmetry so that there is no cosmological domain-wall problem. Among such critical points, we focus on maximally critical one called CP-1234 that fix all the superrenormalizable parameters. We show that there remains a parameter region that satisfies the DM relic abundance, DM direct-detection bound and the current LHC constraints. In this region, we find a first-order phase transition in the early universe around the TeV-scale temperature. The resultant gravitational waves are predicted with a peak amplitude of ${\cal O}(10^{-12})$ at a frequency of $10^{-2}$-$10^{-1}$ Hz, which can be tested with future space-based instruments such as DECIGO and BBO.

Minimal scenario of Criticality for Electroweak scale, Neutrino Masses, Dark Matter, and Inflation

We propose a minimal model that can explain the electroweak scale, neutrino masses, Dark Matter (DM), and successful inflation all at once based on the multicritical-point principle (MPP). The model has two singlet scalar fields that realize an analogue of the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism, in addition to the Standard Model with heavy Majorana right-handed neutrinos. By assuming a $Z_2 $ symmetry, one of the scalars becomes a DM candidate whose property is almost the same as the minimal Higgs-portal scalar DM. In this model, the MPP can naturally realize a saddle point in the Higgs potential at high energy scales. By the renormalization-group analysis, we study the critical Higgs inflation with non-minimal coupling $ξ|H|^2 R$ that utilizes the saddle point of the Higgs potential. We find that it is possible to realize successful inflation even for $ξ=25$ and that the heaviest right-handed neutrino is predicted to have a mass around $10^{14}$ GeV to meet the current cosmological observations. Such a small value of $ξ$ can be realized by the Higgs-portal coupling $λ_{SH}\simeq 0.32$ and the vacuum expectation value of the additional neutral scalar $\langleϕ\rangle\simeq 2.7$ TeV, which correspond to the dark matter mass 2.0 TeV, its spin-independent cross section $1.8\times10^{-9}$ pb, and the mass of additional neutral scalar 190 GeV.

Probing double-aligned two Higgs doublet models at LHC

We consider two Higgs doublet models (THDMs) with both the Higgs potential and Yukawa interactions being aligned, which we call "double-aligned THDMs". In this scenario, coupling constants of the discovered Higgs boson to the Standard Model (SM) particles are identical to those of the SM Higgs boson, and flavor changing neutral currents via neutral Higgs bosons do not appear at tree level. We investigate current constraints and future prospects of the model by using measurements from flavor experiments and data of multi-lepton final states at LHC. Especially, we focus on the electroweak pair production of the additional Higgs bosons with their masses below $2m_t$. We find that the most of the parameter space are already excluded by the current LHC data when the leptonic decays of the additional Higgs bosons are dominant, which can be interpreted to the scenario in the Type-X THDM as a special case. We also clarify the parameter region where the high-luminosity LHC can explore, and demonstrate the reconstruction of the masses of additional Higgs bosons from the $b\bar{b}τ^+τ^-$ final states in a few benchmark points.

Flavor Dependent $U(1)$ Symmetric Zee Model with a Vector-like Lepton

We extend the Zee model by introducing a vector-like lepton doublet and a flavor dependent global $U(1)$ symmetry. Flavor changing neutral currents in the quark sector can be naturally forbidden at tree level due to the $U(1)$ symmetry, while sufficient amount of lepton flavor violation is provided to explain current neutrino oscillation data. In our model, additional sources of CP-violation appear in the lepton sector, but their contribution to electric dipole moments is much smaller than current experimental bounds due to the Yukawa structure constrained by the $U(1)$ symmetry. We find that there is a parameter region where the strongly first order electroweak phase transition can be realized, which is necessary for the successful scenario of the electroweak baryogenesis in addition to new CP-violating phases. In the benchmark points satisfying neutrino data, lepton flavor violation data and the strongly first order phase transition, we show that an additional CP-even Higgs boson $H$ mainly decays into a lighter CP-odd Higgs boson $A$, i.e., $H \to AZ$ or $H \to AA$ with a characteristic pattern of lepton flavor violating decays of $A$.

CP-Violation in a Composite 2-Higgs Doublet Model

We study CP-Violation (CPV) in a Composite 2-Higgs Doublet Model (C2HDM) based on the global symmetry breaking $SO(6)/[SO(4)\times SO(2)]$, wherein the strong sector is modeled by a two-site moose structure. Non-trivial complex phases in the interactions involving fermions in both the elementary and strong sectors can induce CPV in the Higgs potential as well as the Yukawa coupling parameters. We compute both of the latter and analyse their dependence upon the aforementioned complex phases. Finally, we discuss physics observables which are distinctive of this model. Even in the simplest case with only one complex phase in the strong sector we can get significant CPV effects.

Radiative Seesaw Mechanism for Charged Leptons

We discuss a mechanism where charged lepton masses are derived from one-loop diagrams mediated by particles in a dark sector including a dark matter candidate. We focus on a scenario where the muon and electron masses are generated at one loop with new ${\cal O}(1)$ Yukawa couplings. The measured muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment, $(g-2)_μ$, can be explained in this framework. As an important prediction, the muon and electron Yukawa couplings can largely deviate from their standard model predictions, and such deviations can be tested at High-Luminosity LHC and future $e^+e^-$ colliders.

Testing aligned CP-violating Higgs sector at future lepton colliders

We discuss the testability of CP-violating phases at future lepton colliders for the scenario which satisfies electric dipole moment data by destructive interferences among several phases. We consider the general but aligned two Higgs doublet model which has the CP-violating phases in the Higgs potential and the Yukawa interaction. The Yukawa interaction terms are aligned to avoid flavor changing neutral currents at tree level. The Higgs potential is also aligned such that the coupling constants of the lightest Higgs boson with the mass of 125 GeV to the Standard Model (SM) particles are the same as those of the SM at tree level. We investigate the azimuthal angle distribution of the hadronic decay of tau leptons arising from production and decay of the extra Higgs bosons, which contains information of the CP-violating phases. From the signal and background simulation, we find that the scenario with finite CP-violating phases can be distinguished from CP conserving one at future lepton colliders like the International Linear Collider.

Dark matter in minimal dimensional transmutation with multicritical-point principle

We investigate a model with two real scalar fields that minimally generates exponentially different scales in an analog of the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. The classical scale invariance -- the absence of dimensionful parameters in the tree-level action, required in such a scale generation -- can naturally be understood as a special case of the multipoint criticality principle. This two-scalar model can couple to the Standard Model Higgs field to realize a maximum multiplicity of criticality for field values around the electroweak scale, providing a generalization of the classical scale invariance to a wider class of criticality. As a bonus, one of the two scalars can be identified as Higgs-portal dark matter. We find that this model can be consistent with the constraints from dark matter relic abundance, its direct detection experiments, and the latest LHC data, while keeping the perturbativity up to the Planck scale. We then present successful benchmark points satisfying all these constraints: The mass of dark matter is a few TeV, and its scattering cross section with nuclei is of the order of $10^{-9}$ pb, reachable in near future experiments. The mass of extra Higgs boson $H$ is smaller than or of the order of 100 GeV, and the cross section of $e^+e^- \to ZH$ can be of fb level for collision energy 250 GeV, targetted at future lepton colliders.

Probing extended Higgs sectors by the synergy between direct searches at the LHC and precision tests at future lepton colliders

We discuss a possibility that the parameter space of the two Higgs doublet model is significantly narrowed down by considering the synergy between direct searches for additional Higgs bosons at the LHC and its luminosity upgraded operation and precision measurements of the Higgs boson properties at future electron-positron colliders such as the International Linear Collider. We show that, in the case where the coupling constants of the discovered Higgs boson are slightly different from the predicted values in the standard model, most of the parameter space is explored by the direct searches of extra Higgs bosons, in particular for the decays of the extra Higgs bosons into the discovered Higgs boson, and also by the theoretical arguments such as perturbative unitarity and vacuum stability. This can be done because there appears an upper limit on the mass of the extra Higgs bosons as long as the deviation exists in the Higgs boson coupling. We also show that in the alignment limit where all the Higgs boson couplings take the standard model like values most of the parameter space cannot be excluded because most of the Higgs to Higgs decays are suppressed and also there is no upper limit on the masses from the theoretical arguments.

An explanation for the muon and electron $g-2$ anomalies and dark matter

We propose simple models with a flavor-dependent global $U(1)_\ell$ and a discrete $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetries to explain the anomalies in the measured anomalous magnetic dipole moments of muon and electron, $(g-2)_{μ,e}$, while simultaneously accommodating a dark matter candidate. These new symmetries are introduced not only to avoid the dangerous lepton flavor-violating decays of charged leptons, but also to ensure the stability of the dark matter. Our models can realize the opposite-sign contributions to the muon and electron $g-2$ via one-loop diagrams involving new vector-like leptons. Under the vacuum stability and perturbative unitarity bounds as well as the constraints from the dark matter direct searches and related LHC data, we find suitable parameter space to simultaneously explain $(g-2)_{μ,e}$ and the relic density. In this parameter space, the coupling of the Higgs boson with muons can be enhanced by up to $\sim 38\%$ from its Standard Model value, which can be tested in future collider experiments.

H-COUP Version 2: a program for one-loop corrected Higgs boson decays in non-minimal Higgs sectors

We present the concept of H-COUP_ver 2, which evaluates the decay rates (including higher order corrections) for the Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV in various extended Higgs models. In the previous version (H-COUP_1.0), only a full set of the Higgs boson vertices are evaluated at one-loop level in a gauge invariant manner in these models. H-COUP_ver 2 contains all the functions of H-COUP_1.0. After shortly introducing these extended Higgs models and discussing their theoretical and experimental constraints, we summarize formulae for the renormalized vertices and the decay rates. We then explain how to install and run H-COUP_ver 2 with some numerical examples.

Radiative generation of neutrino masses in a 3-3-1 type model

A new model for tiny neutrino masses is proposed in the gauge theory of $SU(3)_C \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X$, where neutrino masses are generated via the quantum effect of new particles. In this model, the fermion content is taken to be minimal to realize the gauge anomaly cancellation, while the scalar sector is extended from the minimal 3-3-1 model to have an additional $SU(3)_L$ triplet field. After $SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ is broken into $SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_Y$, the "Zee model" like diagrams are naturally induced, which contain sufficient lepton flavor violating interactions to reproduce current neutrino oscillation data. Furthermore, the remnant $Z_2$ symmetry appears after the electroweak symmetry breaking, which guarantees the stability of dark matter. It is confirmed that this model can satisfy current dark matter data. As an important prediction to test this model, productions and decays of doubly-charged scalar bosons at collider experiments are discussed in successful benchmark scenarios.

Aligned CP-violating Higgs sector canceling the electric dipole moment

We discuss the effect of CP violation in the aligned scenario of the general two-Higgs-doublet model, in which the Higgs potential and the Yukawa interaction provide additional CP-violating phases. An alignment is imposed to the Yukawa interaction in order to avoid dangerous flavor changing neutral currents. The Higgs potential is also aligned such that the coupling constants of the lightest Higgs boson, which is identified as the discovered Higgs boson with the mass of 125 GeV, are the same as those of the standard model. In general, CP-violating phases originated by the Yukawa interaction and the Higgs potential are strongly constrained by the current data for the electric dipole moment (EDM). It is found that in our scenario contributions from the two sources of CP violation can be destructive and consequently their total contribution can satisfy the EDM results, even when each CP-violating phase is large. Such a large CP-violating phase can be tested at collider experiments by looking at the angular distributions of particles generated by the decays of the additional Higgs bosons.

Full next-to-leading-order calculations of Higgs boson decay rates in models with non-minimal scalar sectors

We present a complete set of decay rates of the Higgs boson with the mass of 125 GeV at the full next-to-leading order in a variety of extended Higgs models; i.e., a model with an additional real singlet scalar field, four types of two Higgs doublet models and the inert doublet model. All the one-loop contributions due to QCD and electroweak interactions as well as scalar interactions are taken into account, and the calculations are systematically performed. Branching ratios for all the decay modes are evaluated in these models, and patterns of deviations in each decay mode from the standard model predictions are comprehensively analyzed. We show how these models with extended Higgs sectors can be distinguished by using our calculation of the branching ratios and future precision measurements of the Higgs boson decays.
