Towards Riemannian diffeology

We introduce a framework for Riemannian diffeology. To this end, we use the tangent functor in the sense of Blohmann and one of the options of a metric on a diffeological space in the sense of Iglesias-Zemmour. As a consequence, the category consisting of weak Riemannian diffeological spaces and isometries is established. With a technical condition for a definite weak Riemannian metric, we show that the pseudodistance induced by the metric is indeed a distance. As examples of weak Riemannian diffeological spaces, an adjunction space of manifolds, a space of smooth maps and the mixed one are considered.

Polyak-Viro type formula for the Milnor triple linking number of link diagrams with multiple-crossings

We obtain Polyak-Viro type formula for the Milnor triple linking number that can be applied to diagrams with triple or more multiple-crossings. The proof is based on the idea of Brooks and Komendarczyk, but is different from theirs in that we explicitly compute the value of configuration space integral associated to the "Y-graph," and is applicable to the original Brooks-Komendarczyk formula for the Casson knot invariant. The results for the Milnor triple linking number were firstly obtained in the first author's master thesis, in which the proof follows the same way as that in the paper of Brooks-Komendarczyk (2024).

The Fox-Hatcher cycle and a Vassiliev invariant of order three

We show that the integration of a 1-cocycle I(X) of the space of long knots in R^3 over the Fox-Hatcher 1-cycles gives rise to a Vassiliev invariant of order exactly three. This result can be seen as a continuation of the previous work of the second named author, proving that the integration of I(X) over the Gramain 1-cycles is the Casson invariant, the unique nontrivial Vassiliev invariant of order two (up to scalar multiplications). The result in the present paper is also analogous to part of Mortier's result. Our result differs from, but is motivated by, Mortier's one in that the 1-cocycle I(X) is given by the configuration space integrals associated with graphs while Mortier's cocycle is obtained in a combinatorial way.

Span of the Jones polynomials of certain v-adequate virtual links

It is known that the Kauffman-Murasugi-Thislethwaite type inequality becomes an equality for any (possibly virtual) adequate link diagram. We refine this condition. As an application we obtain a criterion for virtual link diagram with exactly one virtual crossing to represent a properly virtual link.

The space of short ropes and the classifying space of the space of long knots

We prove affirmatively the conjecture raised by J. Mostovoy; the space of short ropes is weakly homotopy equivalent to the classifying space of the topological monoid (or category) of long knots in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We make use of techniques developed by S. Galatius and O. Randal-Williams to construct a manifold space model of the classifying space of the space of long knots, and we give an explicit map from the space of short ropes to the model in a geometric way.

Lin-Wang type formula for the Haefliger invariant

In this paper we study the Haefliger invariant for long embeddings $\mathbb{R}^{4k-1}\hookrightarrow\mathbb{R}^{6k}$ in terms of the self-intersections of their projections to $\mathbb{R}^{6k-1}$, under the condition that the projection is a generic long immersion $\mathbb{R}^{4k-1}\looparrowright\mathbb{R}^{6k-1}$. We define the notion of "crossing changes" of the embeddings at the self-intersections and describe the change of the isotopy classes under crossing changes using the linking numbers of the double point sets in $\mathbb{R}^{4k-1}$. This formula is a higher-dimensional analogue to that of X.-S. Lin and Z. Wang for the order $2$ invariant for classical knots. As a consequence, we show that the Haefliger invariant is of order two in a similar sense to Birman and Lin. We also give an alternative proof for the result of M. Murai and K. Ohba concerning "unknotting numbers" of embeddings $\mathbb{R}^3\hookrightarrow\mathbb{R}^6$. Our formula enables us to define an invariant for generic long immersions $\mathbb{R}^{4k-1}\looparrowright\mathbb{R}^{6k-1}$ which are liftable to embeddings $\mathbb{R}^{4k-1}\hookrightarrow\mathbb{R}^{6k}$. This invariant corresponds to V. Arnold's plane curve invariant in Lin-Wang theory, but in general our invariant does not coincide with order $1$ invariant of T. Ekholm.

BV-structures on the homology of the framed long knot space

We introduce BV-algebra structures on the homology of the space of framed long knots in $\mathbb{R}^n$ in two ways. The first one is given in a similar fashion to Chas-Sullivan's string topology. The second one is defined on the Hochschild homology associated with a cyclic, multiplicative operad of graded modules. The latter can be applied to Bousfield-Salvatore spectral sequence converging to the homology of the space of framed long knots. Conjecturally these two structures coincide with each other.

Deloopings of the spaces of long embeddings

The homotopy fiber of the inclusion from the long embedding space to the long immersion space is known to be an iterated based loop space (if the codimension is greater than two). In this paper we deloop the homotopy fiber to obtain the topological Stiefel manifold, combining results of Lashof and of Lees. We also give a delooping of the long embedding space, which can be regarded as a version of Morlet-Burghelea-Lashof's delooping of the diffeomorphism group of the disk relative to the boundary. As a corollary, we show that the homotopy fiber is weakly equivalent to a space on which the framed little disks operad acts possibly nontrivially, and hence its rational homology is a (higher) BV-algebra in a stable range of dimensions.

On a move reducing the genus of a knot diagram

For a knot diagram we introduce an operation which does not increase the genus of the diagram and does not change its representing knot type. We also describe a condition for this operation to certainly decrease the genus. The proof involves the study of a relation between the genus of a virtual knot diagram and the genus of a knotoid diagram, the former of which has been introduced by Stoimenow, Tchernov and Vdovina, and the latter by Turaev recently. Our operation has a simple interpretation in terms of Gauss codes and hence can easily be computer-implemented.

An integral expression of the first non-trivial one-cocycle of the space of long knots in R^3

Our main object of study is a certain degree-one cohomology class of the space K of long knots in R^3. We describe this class in terms of graphs and configuration space integrals, showing the vanishing of some anomalous obstructions. To show that this class is not zero, we integrate it over a cycle studied by Gramain. As a corollary, we establish a relation between this class and (R-valued) Casson's knot invariant. These are R-versions of the results which were previously proved by Teiblyum, Turchin and Vassiliev over Z/2 in a different way from ours.

1-loop graphs and configuration space integral for embedding spaces

We will construct differential forms on the embedding spaces Emb(R^j,R^n) for n-j>=2 using configuration space integral associated with 1-loop graphs, and show that some linear combinations of these forms are closed in some dimensions. There are other dimensions in which we can show the closedness if we replace Emb(R^j,R^n) by fEmb(R^j,R^n), the homotopy fiber of the inclusion Emb(R^j,R^n) -> Imm(R^j,R^n). We also show that the closed forms obtained give rise to nontrivial cohomology classes, evaluating them on some cycles of Emb(R^j,R^n) and fEmb(R^j,R^n). In particular we obtain nontrivial cohomology classes (for example, in H^3(Emb(R^2,R^5))) of higher degrees than those of the first nonvanishing homotopy groups.

Configuration space integrals for embedding spaces and the Haefliger invariant

Let K be the space of long j-knots in R^n. In this paper we introduce a graph complex D and a linear map I from D to the de Rham complex of K via configuration space integral, and prove that (1) when both n>j>=3 are odd, the map I is a cochain map if restricted to graphs with at most one loop component, (2) when n-j>=2 is even, the map I is a cochain map if restricted to tree graphs, and (3) when n-j >=3 is odd, the map I added a correction term produces a (2n-3j-3)-cocycle of K which gives a new formulation of the Haefliger invariant when n=6k, j=4k-1 for some k.

Poisson structures on the homology of the space of knots

In this article we study the Poisson algebra structure on the homology of the totalization of a fibrant cosimplicial space associated with an operad with multiplication. This structure is given as the Browder operation induced by the action of little disks operad, which was found by McClure and Smith. We show that the Browder operation coincides with the Gerstenhaber bracket on the Hochschild homology, which appears as the E2-term of the homology spectral sequence constructed by Bousfield. In particular we consider a variant of the space of long knots in higher dimensional Euclidean space, and show that Sinha's homology spectral sequence computes the Poisson algebra structure of the homology of the space. The Browder operation produces a homology class which does not directly correspond to chord diagrams.

Non-trivalent graph cocycle and cohomology of the long knot space

In this paper we show that via the configuration space integral construction a non-trivalent graph cocycle can also yield a non-zero cohomology class of the space of higher (and even) codimensional long knots. This simultaneously proves that the Browder operation induced by the operad action defined by R. Budney is not trivial.
