What happens to wavepackets of fermions when scattered by the Maldacena-Ludwig wall?

We study wavepackets of exotic excitations after two-dimensional fermions are scattered by the boundary condition constructed by Maldacena and Ludwig, which turns elementary excitations into exotic fractionally-charged objects. They are of interest in the s-wave approximation of the fermion-monopole scattering in four-dimensional QED and of the multi-channel Kondo effect. We in particular give an explicit expression of the outgoing state of a pair of such particles; we then examine its properties, such as the charge density $\langle J(x)\rangle$ and the expectation value $\langle N\rangle$ of the number of fermions and anti-fermions in the state. The charge density $\langle J(x)\rangle$ is found to be localized with its integral finite and fractional, while the expectation value $\langle N\rangle$ diverges when the wavepacket is localized to a point.

Web of dualities on non-orientable surfaces

It is known that a two-dimensional bosonic theory with a non-anomalous $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry can be fermionized. Recent work shows that if the bosonic theory also has non-anomalous time-reversal symmetry, fermionization extends to non-orientable surfaces and yields a fermionic theory that depends on a $\mathrm{Pin}^-$ structure. Besides fermionization, one can define various topological manipulations, such as gauging and stacking invertible phases, which together generate a web of dualities. We prove that their group structure is the dihedral group $D_8$ of order 16. Furthermore, we systematically investigate the web from two perspectives: Symmetry TFT and actions on sectors of the $S^1$ Hilbert space.

Statistics on Open Access Books Available through the Directory of Open Access Books

Open Access (OA) books available through the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) are investigated and the number of titles, the distribution of subjects, languages, publishers, publication years, licensing patterns, etc., are clarified. Their chronological changes are also shown. The sample comprised 10,866 OA books, which were available through the DOAB as of February 24, 2018. The results show that OA books are increasing in number at an accelerating rate. As for distribution of subjects, Social Sciences ("H" in the Library of Congress Classification [LCC] codes), Science ("Q" in LCC) and World History and History of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, etc. ("D" in LCC) are the most popular. As for languages, English, French, and German are the most popular. As for publishers, Frontiers Media SA, Presses universitaires de Rennes, and ANU Press are the most popular. Many books are newly published ones, but older books, published in or before 1999, also began to be available recently. As for the licensing patterns, "CC by-nc-nd" and "CC by" are the most popular. Considering these tendencies, libraries should begin to utilize OA books.
