Touching Movement: 3D Tactile Poses for Supporting Blind People in Learning Body Movements

Visual impairments create barriers to learning physical activities, since conventional training methods rely on visual demonstrations or often inadequate verbal descriptions. This research explores 3D-printed human body models to enhance movement comprehension for blind individuals. Through a participatory design approach in collaboration with a blind designer, we developed detailed 3D models representing various body movements and incorporated tactile reference elements to enhance spatial understanding. We conducted two user studies with 10 blind participants across different activities: static yoga poses and sequential calisthenic movements. The results demonstrated that 3D models significantly improved understanding speed, reduced questions for clarification, and enhanced movement accuracy compared to conventional teaching methods. Participants consistently rated 3D models higher for ease of understanding, effectiveness, and motivation.

SHITARA: Sending Haptic Induced Touchable Alarm by Ring-shaped Air vortex

Social interaction begins with the other person's attention, but it is difficult for a d/Deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH) person to notice the initial conversation cues. Wearable or visual devices have been proposed previously. However, these devices are cumbersome to wear or must stay within the DHH person's vision. In this study, we have proposed SHITARA, a novel accessibility method with air vortex rings that provides a non-contact haptic cue for a DHH person. We have developed a proof-of-concept device and determined the air vortex ring's accuracy, noticeability and comfortability when it hits a DHH's hair. Though strength, accuracy, and noticeability of air vortex rings decrease as the distance between the air vortex ring generator and the user increases, we have demonstrated that the air vortex ring is noticeable up to 2.5 meters away. Moreover, the optimum strength is found for each distance from a DHH.

Extension of the Lieb-Schupp theorem to the Heisenberg models with higher order interactions

We extend the Lieb-Schupp theorem to the Heisenberg models with higher order interactions on non-frustrated or frustrated finite lattices. These lattices are constructed by even numbered rings with or without crossing bonds and have reflection symmetry. The results show that all ground states have total spin zero in wide interaction parameters region which is not covered with the results of the Marshall-Lieb-Mattis type arguments.

New Result in the Production and Decay of an Isotope, 278[113], of the 113th Element

An isotope of the 113th element, i.e., 278[113], was produced in a nuclear reaction with a 70Zn beam on a 209Bi target. We observed six consecutive α-decays following the implantation of a heavy particle in nearly the same position in the semiconductor detector under an extremely low background condition. The fifth and sixth decays are fully consistent with the sequential decays of 262Db and 258Lr in both decay energies and decay times. This indicates that the present decay chain consisted of 278[113], 274Rg (Z=111), 270Mt (Z=109), 266Bh (Z=107), 262Db (Z=105), and 258Lr (Z=103) with firm connections. This result, together with previously reported results from 2004 and 2007, conclusively leads to the unambiguous production and identification of the isotope 278[113] of the 113th element.
