Phenomenology of flavorful composite vector bosons in light of $B$ anomalies

We analyze the flavor structure of composite vector bosons arising in a model of vectorlike technicolor, often called hypercolor (HC), with eight flavors that form a one-family content of HC fermions. Dynamics of the composite vector bosons, referred to as HC rho in this paper, are formulated together with HC pions by the hidden local symmetry (HLS), in a way analogous to QCD vector mesons. Then coupling properties to the standard model (SM) fermions, which respect the HLS gauge symmetry, are described in a way that couplings of the HC rhos to the left-handed SM quarks and leptons are given by a well-defined setup as taking the flavor mixing structures into account. Under the present scenario, we discuss significant bounds on the model from electroweak precision tests, flavor physics, and collider physics. We also try to address B anomalies in processes such as B -> K(*) mu+ mu- and B -> D(*) tau nu, recently reported by LHCb, Belle, (ATLAS, and CMS in part.) Then we find that the present model can account for the anomaly in B -> K(*) mu+ mu- consistently with the other constraints while it predicts no significant deviations in B -> D(*) tau nu from the SM, which can be examined in the future Belle II experiment. The former is archived with the form C9 = -C10 of the Wilson coefficients for effective operators of b -> s mu+ mu-, which has been favored by the recent experimental data. We also investigate current and future experimental limits at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and see that possible collider signals come from dijet and ditau, or dimuon resonant searches for the present scenario with TeV mass range. To conclude, the present b -> s mu+ mu- anomaly is likely to imply discovery of new vector bosons in the ditau or dimuon channel in the context of the HC rho model. Our model can be considered as a UV completion of conventional U(1)' model.

Supersymmetry in 6d Dirac Action

We investigate a 6d Dirac fermion on a rectangle. It is found that the 4d spectrum is governed by $N=2$ supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Then we demonstrate that the supersymmetry is very useful for classifying all the allowed boundary conditions and to expand the 6d Dirac field in Kaluza-Klein modes. A striking feature of the model is that even though the 6d Dirac fermion has non-vanishing bulk mass, the 4d mass spectrum can contain degenerate massless chiral fermions, which may provide a hint to solve the problem of the generation of quarks and leptons. It is pointed out that zero-energy solutions are not affected by the presence of the boundaries, while the boundary conditions work well for determining the positive-energy solutions. We also provide a brief discussion on possible boundary conditions in the general case, especially those on polygons.

6d Dirac fermion on a rectangle; scrutinizing boundary conditions, mode functions and spectrum

We classify possible boundary conditions of a 6d Dirac fermion $Ψ$ on a rectangle under the requirement that the 4d Lorentz structure is maintained, and derive the profiles and spectrum of the zero modes and nonzero KK modes under the two specific boundary conditions, (i) 4d-chirality positive components being zero at the boundaries and (ii) 2d-chirality positive components being zero at the boundaries. In the case of (i), twofold degenerated chiral zero modes appear which are localized towards specific directions of the rectangle pointed by an angle parameter $θ$. This leads to an implication for a new direction of pursuing the origin of three generations in the matter fields of the standard model, even though triple-degenerated zero modes are not realized in the six dimensions. The emergence of the angle parameter $θ$ originates from a rotational symmetry in the degenerated chiral zero modes on the rectangle extra dimensions since they do not feel the boundaries. In the case of (ii), this rotational symmetry is promoted to the two-dimensional conformal symmetry though no chiral massless zero mode appears. We also discuss the correspondence between our model on a rectangle and orbifold models in some details.

Brane-localized masses in magnetic compactifications

We discuss effects of the brane-localized mass terms on the fixed points of the toroidal orbifold $T^2/Z_2$ under the presence of background magnetic fluxes, where multiple lowest and higher-level Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes are realized before introducing the localized masses in general. Through the knowledge of linear algebra, we find that, in each KK level, one of or more than one of the degenerate KK modes are almost inevitably perturbed, when single or multiple brane-localized mass terms are introduced. When the typical scale of the compactification is far above the electroweak scale or the TeV scale, we apply this mechanism for uplifting unwanted massless or light modes which are prone to appear in models on magnetized orbifolds.

Di-higgs enhancement by neutral scalar as probe of new colored sector

We study a class of models in which the Higgs pair production is enhanced at hadron colliders by an extra neutral scalar. The scalar particle is produced by the gluon fusion via a loop of new colored particles, and decays into di-Higgs through its mixing with the Standard Model Higgs. Such a colored particle can be the top/bottom partner, such as in the dilaton model, or a colored scalar which can be triplet, sextet, octet, etc., called leptoquark, diquark, coloron, etc., respectively. We examine the experimental constraints from the latest Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data, and discuss the future prospects of the LHC and the Future Circular Collider up to 100TeV. We also point out that the 2.4$σ$ excess in the $b\bar bγγ$ final state reported by the ATLAS experiment can be interpreted as the resonance of the neutral scalar at 300GeV.

CP-violating phase on magnetized toroidal orbifolds

We study the CP-violating phase of the quark sector in the $U(8)$ flavor model on $T^2/Z_N \, (N=2,3,4,6)$ with non-vanishing magnetic fluxes, where properties of possible origins of the CP violation are investigated minutely. In this system, a non-vanishing value is mandatory in the real part of the complex modulus parameter $τ$ of the two-dimensional torus. On $T^2$ without orbifolding, underlying discrete flavor symmetries severely restrict the form of Yukawa couplings and it is very difficult to reproduce the observed pattern in the quark sector including the CP-violating phase $δ_{\rm CP}$. In cases of multiple Higgs doublets emerging on $T^2/Z_2$, the mass matrices of the zero-mode fermions can be written in the Gaussian textures by choosing appropriate configurations of vacuum expectation values of the Higgs fields. When such Gaussian textures of mass matrices are realized, we show that all of the quark profiles, which are mass hierarchies among the quarks, quark mixing angles, and $δ_{\rm CP}$ can be simultaneously realized.

LHC constraints and prospects for $S_1$ scalar leptoquark explaining the $\bar B \to D^{(*)} τ\barν$ anomaly

Recently, deviations in flavor observables of B -> D(*) tau nu have been shown between the predictions in the Standard Model and the experimental results reported by BaBar, Belle, and LHCb collaborations. One of the solutions to this anomaly is obtained in a class of leptoquark model with a scalar leptoquark boson S_1, which is a SU(3)_c triplet and SU(2)_L singlet particle with -1/3 hypercharge interacting with a quark-lepton pair. With well-adjusted couplings, this model can explain the anomaly and be compatible with all flavor constraints. In such a case, the S_1 boson can be pair-produced at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and subsequently decay as S_1 -> t tau, b nu, c tau. This paper explores the current 8 and 13 TeV constraints, as well as the detailed prospects at 14 TeV, of this flavor-motivated S_1 model. From the current available 8 and 13 TeV LHC searches, we obtain constraints on the S_1 boson mass for M_{S_1} < 400 GeV - 640 GeV depending on values of the leptoquark couplings to fermions. Then we study future prospects for this scenario at the 14 TeV LHC using detailed cut analyses and evaluate exclusion/discovery potentials for the flavor-motivated S_1 leptoquark model from searches for the (b nu) (b nu) and (c tau) (c tau) final states. In the latter case, we consider several scenarios for the identification of charm jets. As a result, we find that the S_1 leptoquark origin of the B -> D(*) tau nu anomaly can be probed with mass less than around 600/800 GeV at the 14 TeV LHC with 300/3000 fb^-1 of accumulated data.

LHC 750 GeV Diphoton excess in a radiative seesaw model

We investigate a possibility for explaining the recently announced 750\,GeV diphoton excess by the ATLAS and the CMS experiments at the CERN LHC in a model with multiple doubly charged particles, which was originally suggested for explaining tiny neutrino masses through a three-loop effect in a natural way. The enhanced radiatively generated effective coupling of a new singlet scalar $S$ with diphoton with multiple charged particles in the loop enlarges the production rate of $S$ in $pp\to S+X$ via photon fusion process and also the decay width $Γ(S\to γγ)$ even without assuming a tree level production mechanism. We provide detailed analysis on the cases with or without allowing the mixing between $S$ and the standard model Higgs doublet.

Double Froggatt--Nielsen Mechanism

We present a doubly parametric extension of the standard Froggatt--Nielsen (FN) mechanism. As is well known, mass matrices of the up- and down-type quark sectors and the charged lepton sector in the standard model can be parametrized well by a parameter $λ$ which is usually taken to be the sine of the Cabibbo angle ($λ= \sinθ_\text{C} \simeq 0.225$). However, in the neutrino sector, there is still room to realize the two neutrino mass squared differences $Δm_\text{sol}^2$ and $Δm_\text{atm}^2$, two large mixing angles $θ_{12}$ and $θ_{23}$, and non-zero $θ_{13}$. Then we consider an extension with an additional parameter $ρ$ in addition to $λ$. Taking the relevant FN charges for a power of $λ~(=0.225)$ and additional FN charges for a power of $ρ$, which we assume to be less than one, we can reproduce the ratio of the two neutrino mass squared differences and three mixing angles. In the normal neutrino mass hierarchy, we show several patterns for taking relevant FN charges and the magnitude of $ρ$. We find that if $\sin θ_{23}$ is measured more precisely, we can distinguish each pattern. This is testable in the near future, for example in neutrino oscillation experiments. In addition, we predict the Dirac CP-violating phase for each pattern.

Comprehensive Analysis of Yukawa Hierarchies on $T^2/Z_N$ with Magnetic Fluxes

Based on the result of classification in our previous work, we exhaustively investigate Yukawa sector of $U(8)$ model on magnetized orbifolds $T^{2}/Z_{2}$, $T^{2}/Z_{3}$, $T^{2}/Z_{4}$ and $T^{2}/Z_{6}$ by evaluating ratios of the mass eigenvalues of the three states in all the possible configurations with one and two Higgs pairs where three generations are realized in fermions. Because of smearing effect via kinetic mixing, one can realize a hierarchy such as $10^{-2}$-$10^{-3}$, but it is very difficult to achieve the mass ratio between the up and top quarks ($m_{\text{up}}/m_{\text{top}} \sim 10^{-5}$) on the complicated magnetized orbifolds $T^{2}/Z_{N}\,(N=3,4,6)$.

Active Dirac Neutrinos via $SU(2)_L$ Doublets in 5d

We propose a new mechanism to generate minuscule active neutrino masses in a five-dimensional~(5d) spacetime of an interval without introducing $SU(2)_L$ singlet neutrinos. Under asymmetric boundary conditions on the two end points, a bulk mass for a 5d fermion allows a Dirac particle with a tiny mass eigenvalue. Implementing this mechanism, which provides us a new tool for building neutrino mass models, to the standard model gauge structure is possible when all the gauge bosons and the Higgs boson are localized on one of the branes.

Leptoquark explanation of $h \to μτ$ and muon $(g-2)$

We consider lepton flavor violating Higgs decay, specifically $h \to μτ$, in a leptoquark model. We introduce two scalar leptoquarks with the $SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ quantum numbers, $(3,2,7/6)$ and $(3,2,1/6)$, which do not generate the proton decay within renormalizable level. They can mix with each other by interactions with the standard model Higgs. The constraint from the charged lepton flavor violating process, $τ^{-} \to μ^{-} γ$, is very strong when only one leptoquark contribution is considered. However, we demonstrate that significant cancellation is possible between the two leptoquark contributions. We show that we can explain the CMS (ATLAS) excess in $h \to μτ$. We also show that muon $(g-2)$ anomaly can also be accommodated.

Three Loop Neutrino Model with Isolated $k^{\pm\pm}$

We propose a three loop radiative neutrino mass scenario with an isolated doubly charged singlet scalar $k^{\pm\pm}$ without couplings to the charged leptons, while two other singly charged scalars $h_1^\pm$ and $h_2^\pm$ attach to them. In this setup, the lepton flavor violation originating from $k^{\pm\pm}$ exchanges is suppressed and the model is less constrained, where some couplings can take sizable values. As reported in our previous work, the loop suppression factor at the three loop level would be too strong and realized neutrino masses in a three loop scenario could be smaller than the observed minuscule values. The sizable couplings can help us to enhance neutrino masses without drastically large scalar trilinear couplings appearing in a neutrino mass matrix, which tends to drive the vacuum stability to become jeopardized at the one loop level. Now the doubly charged scalar $k^{\pm\pm}$ has less constraint via lepton flavor violation and the vacuum can be quite stable, and thus a few hundred GeV mass in $k^{\pm\pm}$ is possible, which is within the LHC reach and this model can be tested in the near future. Note that the other $h_1^\pm$ and $h_2^\pm$ should be heavy at least around a few TeV. We suitably arrange the charges of an additional global $U(1)$ symmetry, where the decay constant of the associated Nambu-Goldstone boson can be around a TeV scale consistently. Also, this model is indirectly limited through a global analysis on results of the LHC Higgs search and issues on a dark matter candidate, the lightest Majorana neutrino. After $h_1^\pm$ and $h_2^\pm$ are decoupled, this particle couples to the standard model particles only through two charge parity even scalars in theory and thus information on this scalar sector is important. Consistent solutions are found, but a part of them is now on the edge.

Classification of three-generation models on magnetized orbifolds

We classify the combinations of parameters which lead three generations of quarks and leptons in the framework of magnetized twisted orbifolds on $T^2/Z_2$, $T^2/Z_3$, $T^2/Z_4$ and $T^2/Z_6$ with allowing nonzero discretized Wilson line phases and Scherk-Schwarz phases. We also analyze two actual examples with nonzero phases leading to one-pair Higgs and five-pair Higgses and discuss the difference from the results without nonzero phases studied previously.

$Z'$ search in non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensions: two bumps and interference

We discuss prospects of the $Z'$ search at the LHC in non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensions with tree-level brane-local terms in five dimensions. In this scenario, we find two major differences from the usual $Z'$ physics: (i) two $Z'$ candidates close-by in mass exist; (ii) the effective couplings to the SM fermions could be very large due to drastic overlapping of their profiles along the extra dimension. To evaluate the actual situation precisely, we reconsider the important issues of resonant processes, i.e., treatment of resonant propagators and including interference effects.

A Three-Loop Neutrino Model with Global $U(1)$ Symmetry

We study a three-loop induced neutrino model with a global $U(1)$ symmetry at TeV scale, in which we naturally accommodate a bosonic dark matter candidate. We discuss the allowed regions of masses and quartic couplings for charged scalar bosons as well as the dark matter mass on the analogy of the original Zee-Babu model, and show the difference between them. We also discuss the possibility of the collider searches, in which future like-sign electron liner collider could be promising.

Operator analysis of physical states on magnetized $T^{2}/Z_{N}$ orbifolds

We discuss an effective way for analyzing the system on the magnetized twisted orbifolds in operator formalism, especially in the complicated cases $T^{2}/Z_{3}$, $T^{2}/Z_{4}$ and $T^{2}/Z_{6}$. We can obtain the exact and analytical results which can be applicable for any larger values of the quantized magnetic flux M, and show that the (non-diagonalized) kinetic terms are generated via our formalism and the number of the surviving physical states are calculable in a rigorous manner by simply following usual procedures in linear algebra in any case. Our approach is very powerful when we try to examine properties of the physical states on (complicated) magnetized orbifolds $T^{2}/Z_{3}$, $T^{2}/Z_{4}$, $T^{2}/Z_{6}$ (and would be in other cases on higher-dimensional torus) and could be an essential tool for actual realistic model construction based on these geometries.

Realization of the Lepton Flavor Structure from Point Interactions

We investigate a 5d gauge theory on $S^1$ with point interactions. The point interactions describe extra boundary conditions and provide three generations, the charged lepton mass hierarchy, the lepton flavor mixing and tiny degenerated neutrino masses after choosing suitable boundary conditions and parameters. The existence of the restriction in the flavor mixing, which appears from the configuration of the extra dimension, is one of the features of this model. Tiny Yukawa couplings for the neutrinos also appears without the see-saw mechanism nor symmetries in our model. The magnitude of CP violation in the leptons can be a prediction and is consistent with the current experimental data.
