I-factorial quantum torsors

In an earlier paper of the author, locally compact quantum torsors were defined for locally compact quantum groups, putting into the analytic framework the theory of Galois objects for Hopf algebras. Such quantum torsors allow to deform the given quantum group, providing a generalization of the 2-cocycle twisting procedure. It was also shown that a quantum torsor can be constructed from an action of the dual quantum group on a type I-factor. In this paper, we study quantum torsors which are themselves type I-factors. These I-factorial quantum torsors turn out to have a nice duality theory. We illustrate the general theory with the example of the Heisenberg double.

I-factorial quantum torsors and Heisenberg algebras of quantized universal enveloping type

We introduce a notion of I-factorial quantum torsor, which consists of an integrable ergodic action of a locally compact quantum group on a type I-factor such that also the crossed product is a type I-factor. We show that any such I-factorial quantum torsor is at the same time a I-factorial quantum torsor for the dual locally compact quantum group, in such a way that the construction is involutive. As a motivating example, we show that quantized compact semisimple Lie groups, when amplified via a crossed product construction with the function algebra on the associated weight lattice, admit I-factorial quantum torsors, and give an explicit realization of the dual quantum torsor in terms of a deformed Heisenberg algebra for the Borel part of a quantized universal enveloping algebra.

Quantum actions on discrete quantum spaces and a generalization of Clifford's theory of representations

To any action of a compact quantum group on a von Neumann algebra which is a direct sum of factors we associate an equivalence relation corresponding to the partition of a space into orbits of the action. We show that in case all factors are finite-dimensional (i.e. when the action is on a discrete quantum space) the relation has finite orbits. We then apply this to generalize the classical theory of Clifford, concerning the restrictions of representations to normal subgroups, to the framework of quantum subgroups of discrete quantum groups, itself extending the context of closed normal quantum subgroups of compact quantum groups. Finally, a link is made between our equivalence relation in question and another equivalence relation defined by R.Vergnioux.

Actions of compact quantum groups

These lecture notes, prepared for the summer school "Topological quantum groups", Bedlewo 2015, deal with aspects of the theory of actions of compact quantum groups on C*-algebras ('locally compact quantum spaces'). After going over the basic notions of isotypical components and reduced and universal completions, we look at crossed and smash product C*-algebras, up to the statement of the Takesaki-Takai-Baaj-Skandalis duality (in the algebraic setting). We then look at two special types of actions, namely homogeneous actions and free actions. We study the actions which combine both types, the quantum torsors, and show that more generally any homogeneous action can be completed to a free action with a discrete, classical set of `quantum orbits'. We end with a combinatorial description of the homogeneous actions for the free orthogonal quantum groups.

Torsion-freeness for fusion rings and tensor C*-categories

Torsion-freeness for discrete quantum groups was introduced by R. Meyer in order to formulate a version of the Baum-Connes conjecture for discrete quantum groups. In this note, we introduce torsion-freeness for abstract fusion rings. We show that a discrete quantum group is torsion-free if its associated fusion ring is torsion-free. In the latter case, we say that the discrete quantum group is strongly torsion-free. As applications, we show that the discrete quantum group duals of the free unitary quantum groups are strongly torsion-free, and that torsion-freeness of discrete quantum groups is preserved under Cartesian and free products. We also discuss torsion-freeness in the more general setting of abstract rigid tensor C*-categories

C*-algebraic partial compact quantum groups

In this paper, we introduce C*-algebraic partial compact quantum groups, which are quantizations of topological groupoids with discrete object set and compact morphism spaces. These C*-algebraic partial compact quantum groups are generalisations of Hayashi's compact face algebras to the case where the object set can be infinite. They form the C*-algebraic counterpart of an algebraic theory of partial compact quantum groups developed in an earlier paper by the author and T. Timmermann, the correspondence between which will be dealt with in a separate paper. As an interesting example to illustrate the theory, we show how the dynamical quantum SU(2) group, as studied by Etingof-Varchenko and Koelink-Rosengren, fits into this framework.

Free actions of compact quantum group on unital C*-algebras

Let F be a field, G a finite group, and Map(G,F) the Hopf algebra of all set-theoretic maps G->F. If E is a finite field extension of F and G is its Galois group, the extension is Galois if and only if the canonical map resulting from viewing E as a Map(G,F)-comodule is an isomorphism. Similarly, a finite covering space is regular if and only if the analogous canonical map is an isomorphism. In this paper we extend this point of view to actions of compact quantum groups on unital C*-algebras. We prove that such an action is free if and only if the canonical map (obtained using the underlying Hopf algebra of the compact quantum group) is an isomorphism. In particular, we are able to express the freeness of a compact Hausdorff topological group action on a compact Hausdorff topological space in algebraic terms.

Poisson-Lie groupoids and the contraction procedure

On the level of Lie algebras, the contraction procedure is a method to create a new Lie algebra from a given Lie algebra by rescaling generators and letting the scaling parameter tend to zero. One of the most well-known examples is the contraction from su(2) to e(2), the Lie algebra of upper-triangular matrices with zero trace and purely imaginary diagonal. In this paper, we will consider an extension of this contraction by taking also into consideration the natural bialgebra structures on these Lie algebras. This will give a bundle of central extensions of the above Lie algebras with a Lie bialgebroid structure having transversal component. We consider as well the dual Lie bialgebroid, which is in a sense easier to understand, and whose integration can be explicitly presented.

Quantum flag manifolds as quotients of degenerate quantized universal enveloping algebras

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a semi-simple Lie algebra with fixed root system, and $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ the quantization of its universal enveloping algebra. Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a subset of the simple roots of $\mathfrak{g}$. We show that the defining relations for $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ can be slightly modified in such a way that the resulting algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{g};\mathcal{S})$ allows a homomorphism onto (an extension of) the algebra $\mathrm{Pol}(\mathbb{G}_q/\mathbb{K}_{\mathcal{S},q})$ of functions on the quantum flag manifold $\mathbb{G}_q/\mathbb{K}_{\mathcal{S},q}$ corresponding to $\mathcal{S}$. Moreover, this homomorphism is equivariant with respect to a natural adjoint action of $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ on $U_q(\mathfrak{g};\mathcal{S})$ and the standard action of $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ on $Pol(\mathbb{G}_q/\mathbb{K}_{\mathcal{S},q})$.

Partial compact quantum groups

Compact quantum groups of face type, as introduced by Hayashi, form a class of compact quantum groupoids with a classical, finite set of objects. Using the notions of a weak multiplier bialgebra and weak multiplier Hopf algebra (resp. due to B{ö}hm--Gómez-Torrecillas--López-Centella and Van Daele-Wang), we generalize Hayashi's definition to allow for an infinite set of objects, and call the resulting objects partial compact quantum groups. We prove a Tannaka-Kre$\breve{\textrmı}$n-Woronowicz reconstruction result for such partial compact quantum groups using the notion of a partial fusion C$^*$-category. As examples, we consider the dynamical quantum $SU(2)$-groups from the point of view of partial compact quantum groups.

A q-Hankel transform associated to the quantum linking groupoid for the quantum SU(2) and E(2) groups

A q-analogue of Erdelyi's formula for the Hankel transform of the product of Laguerre polynomials is derived using the quantum linking groupoid between the quantum SU(2) and E(2) groups. The kernel of the q-Hankel transform is given by the 1\varphi1-q-Bessel function, and then the transform of a product of two Wall polynomials times a q-exponential is calculated as a product of two Wall polynomials times a q-exponential.

CCAP for universal discrete quantum groups

We show that the discrete duals of the free orthogonal quantum groups have the Haagerup property and the completely contractive approximation property. Analogous results hold for the free unitary quantum groups and the quantum automorphism groups of finite-dimensional C*-algebras. The proof relies on the monoidal equivalence between free orthogonal quantum groups and SUq(2) quantum groups, on the construction of a sufficient supply of bounded central functionals for SUq(2) quantum groups, and on the free product techniques of Ricard and Xu. Our results generalize previous work in the Kac setting due to Brannan on the Haagerup property, and due to the second author on the CCAP.

Tannaka-Krein duality for compact quantum homogeneous spaces. I. General theory

An ergodic action of a compact quantum group G on an operator algebra A can be interpreted as a quantum homogeneous space for G. Such an action gives rise to the category of finite equivariant Hilbert modules over A, which has a module structure over the tensor category Rep(G) of finite dimensional representations of G. We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the quantum G-homogeneous spaces up to equivariant Morita equivalence, and indecomposable module C*-categories over Rep(G) up to natural equivalence. This gives a global approach to the duality theory for ergodic actions as developed by C. Pinzari and J. Roberts.

Tannaka-Krein duality for compact quantum homogeneous spaces. II. Classification of quantum homogeneous spaces for quantum SU(2)

We apply the Tannaka-Krein duality theory for quantum homogeneous spaces, developed in the first part of this series of papers, to the case of the quantum SU(2) groups. We obtain a classification of their quantum homogeneous spaces in terms of weighted oriented graphs. The equivariant maps between these quantum homogeneous spaces can be characterized by certain quadratic equations associated with the braiding on the representations of SUq(2). We show that, for |q| close to 1, all quantum homogeneous spaces are realized by coideals.

A construction of finite index C*-algebra inclusions from free actions of compact quantum groups

Given an action of a compact quantum group on a unital C*-algebra, one can amplify the action with an adjoint representation of the quantum group on a finite dimensional matrix algebra, and consider the resulting inclusion of fixed point algebras. We show that this inclusion is a finite index inclusion of C*-algebras when the quantum group acts freely. We show that two natural definitions for a quantum group to act freely, namely the Ellwood condition and the saturatedness condition, are equivalent.

Quantum isometries and group dual subgroups

We study the discrete groups $Λ$ whose duals embed into a given compact quantum group, $\hatΛ\subset G$. In the matrix case $G\subset U_n^+$ the embedding condition is equivalent to having a quotient map $Γ_U\toΛ$, where $F=\{Γ_U|U\in U_n\}$ is a certain family of groups associated to $G$. We develop here a number of techniques for computing $F$, partly inspired from Bichon's classification of group dual subgroups $\hatΛ\subset S_n^+$. These results are motivated by Goswami's notion of quantum isometry group, because a compact connected Riemannian manifold cannot have non-abelian group dual isometries.

On projective representations for compact quantum groups

We study actions of compact quantum groups on type I factors, which may be interpreted as projective representations of compact quantum groups. We generalize to this setting some of Woronowicz' results concerning Peter-Weyl theory for compact quantum groups. The main new phenomenon is that for general compact quantum groups (more precisely, those which are not of Kac type), not all irreducible projective representations have to be finite-dimensional. As applications, we consider the theory of projective representations for the compact quantum groups associated to group von Neumann algebras of discrete groups, and consider a certain non-trivial projective representation for quantum SU(2).

On a correspondence between quantum SU(2), quantum E(2) and extended quantum SU(1,1)

In a previous paper, we showed how one can obtain from the action of a locally compact quantum group on a type I-factor a possibly new locally compact quantum group. In another paper, we applied this construction method to the action of quantum SU(2) on the standard Podles sphere to obtain Woronowicz' quantum E(2). In this paper, we will apply this technique to the action of quantum SU(2) on the quantum projective plane (whose associated von Neumann algebra is indeed a type I-factor). The locally compact quantum group which then comes out at the other side turns out to be the extended SU(1,1) quantum group, as constructed by Koelink and Kustermans. We also show that there exists a (non-trivial) quantum groupoid which has at its corners (the duals of) the three quantum groups mentioned above.
