Information metric on the boundary

The information metric on the space of boundary coupling constants in two-dimensional conformal field theories is studied. Such a metric is related to the Casimir energy difference of the theory defined on an interval. We concretely compute the information metric on the boundary conformal manifold of free boson CFT as well as SU(2)k WZW theory, obtaining the result expected from the symmetry of the systems. We also compute the information metric on the space of non-conformal boundary states produced by boundary mass perturbations in the theory of a real free scalar. The holographic dual of the boundary information metric in the context of AdS3/BCFT2 is also discussed. We argue that it corresponds to the area of the minimal cross section of the end-of-the-world brane connecting two boundaries of the asymptotic BCFTs.

Antibiotic-dependent instability of homeostatic plasticity for growth and environmental load

Reducing antibiotic usage in livestock animals has become an urgent issue worldwide to prevent antimicrobial resistance. Here, abuse of chlortetracycline (CTC), a versatile antibacterial agent, on the performance, blood components, fecal microbiota, and organic acid concentration in calves was investigated. Japanese Black calves were fed milk replacer containing CTC at 10 g/kg (CON) or 0 g/kg (EXP). Growth performance was not affected by CTC administration. However, CTC administration altered the correlation between fecal organic acids and bacterial genera. Machine learning methods such as association analysis, linear discriminant analysis, and energy landscape analysis revealed that CTC administration affected according to certain rules the population of various types of fecal bacteria. It is particularly interesting that the population of several methane-producing bacteria was high in the CON, and that of Lachnospiraceae, a butyrate-producing bacteria, was high in the EXP at 60 d of age. Furthermore, statistical causal inference based on machine learning data estimated that CTC treatment affects the entire intestinal environment, inhibiting butyrate production for growth and biological defense, which may be attributed to methanogens in feces. Thus, these observations highlight the multiple harmful impacts of antibiotics on intestinal health and the potential production of greenhouse gas in the calves.

Correlators of double scaled SYK at one-loop

In this paper, we study one-loop contributions in the double-scaling limit of the SYK model from the chord diagrams and Liouville type effective action. We compute and clarify the meaning of each component consisting of the one-loop corrections for the two- and time-ordered four-point functions of light operators. We also reproduce the exact expression of the out-of-time-ordered four-point function at arbitrary temperatures within the one-loop level, which were previously computed from different methods.

Estimation of symbiotic bacterial structure in a sustainable seagrass ecosystem on recycled management

Seagrass meadows play an essential role in blue carbon and aquatic ecosystem services. However, methods for the flourishing of seagrass are still being explored. Here, data from 49 public coastal surveys on the distribution of seagrass and seaweed around the onshore aquaculture facilities are revalidated, and an exceptional area where the seagrass Zostera marina thrives was found. The bacterial population there showed an apparent decrease in the pathogen candidates belonging to the order Flavobacteriales. Moreover, structure equation modeling and a linear non-Gaussian acyclic model based on the machine learning data estimated an optimal symbiotic bacterial group candidate for seagrass growth as follows: the Lachnospiraceae and Ruminococcaceae families as gut-inhabitant bacteria, Rhodobacteraceae as photosynthetic bacteria, and Desulfobulbaceae as cable bacteria modulating oxygen or nitrate reduction and oxidation of sulfide. These observations confer a novel perspective on the seagrass symbiotic bacterial structures critical for blue carbon and low-pathogenic marine ecosystems in aquaculture.

Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n$ over a non-archimedean local field

We calculate the asymptotic behavior of the dimension of the fixed vectors of $π$ with respect to compact open subgroups $1+ M_n(\mathfrak{p}^N)\subset\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$ for $π$ an admissible representation of $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$, and $F$ a nonarchimedean local field. Such dimensions can be calculated by germs of the character of $π$. We also make some observations on how those dimensions behave under instances of Langlands functoriality, such as the Jacquet-Langlands correspondence and cyclic base change, where relations between characters are known.

Brane Dynamics of Holographic BCFTs

In this paper we study various dynamical aspects of the AdS/BCFT correspondence in higher dimensions. We study properties of holographic stress energy tensor by analyzing the metric perturbation in the gravity dual. We also calculate the stress energy tensor for a locally excited state on a half plane in a free scalar CFT. Both of them satisfy a reflective boundary condition that is expected for any BCFTs. We also study the behavior of the scalar field perturbation in the AdS/BCFT setup and show that they also show complete reflections. Moreover, we find that the entanglement entropy of a BCFT computed from the AdS/BCFT matched with that calculated from the Island formula, which supports the Island/BCFT correspondence in higher dimensions. Finally we show how we can calculate one point functions in a BCFT in our gravity dual.

BCFT and Islands in Two Dimensions

By combining the AdS/BCFT correspondence and the brane world holography, we expect an equivalence relation between a boundary conformal field theory (BCFT) and a gravitational system coupled to a CFT. However, it still remains unclear how the boundary condition of the BCFT is translated in the gravitational system. We examine this duality relation in a two-dimensional setup by looking at the computation of entanglement entropy and energy flux conservation. We also identify the two-dimensional gravity which is dual to the boundary dynamics of a BCFT. Moreover, we show that by considering a gravity solution with scalar fields turned on, we can reproduce one point functions correctly in the AdS/BCFT.

JT Gravity Limit of Liouville CFT and Matrix Model

In this paper we study a connection between Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity on two-dimensional anti de-Sitter spaces and a semiclassical limit of $c<1$ two-dimensional string theory. The world-sheet theory of the latter consists of a space-like Liouville CFT coupled to a non-rational CFT defined by a time-like Liouville CFT. We show that their actions, disk partition functions and annulus amplitudes perfectly agree with each other, where the presence of boundary terms plays a crucial role. We also reproduce the boundary Schwarzian theory from the Liouville theory description. Then, we identify a matrix model dual of our two-dimensional string theory with a specific time-dependent background in $c=1$ matrix quantum mechanics. Finally, we also explain the corresponding relation for the two-dimensional de-Sitter JT gravity.

Factorizing Wormholes in a Partially Disorder-Averaged SYK Model

In this paper, we introduce a "partially disorder-averaged" SYK model. This model has a real parameter that smoothly interpolates between the ordinary totally disorder-averaged SYK model and the totally fixed-coupling model. For the large $N$ effective description, in addition to the usual bi-local collective fields, we also introduce a new additional set of local collective fields. These local fields can be understood as "half" of the bi-local collective fields, and in the totally fixed-coupling limit, they represent the "half-wormholes" which were found in recent studies. We find that the large $N$ saddles of these local fields vanish in the total-disorder-averaged limit, while they develop nontrivial profiles as we gradually fix the coupling constants. We argue that the bulk picture of these local collective fields represents a correlation between a spacetime brane and the asymptotic AdS boundary. This illuminates how the half-wormhole saddles emerge in the SYK model with fixed couplings.

Hydrodynamic diffusion and its breakdown near AdS$_2$ quantum critical points

Hydrodynamics provides a universal description of interacting quantum field theories at sufficiently long times and wavelengths, but breaks down at scales dependent on microscopic details of the theory. In the vicinity of a quantum critical point, it is expected that some aspects of the dynamics are universal and dictated by properties of the critical point. We use gauge-gravity duality to investigate the breakdown of diffusive hydrodynamics in two low temperature states dual to black holes with AdS$_2$ horizons, which exhibit quantum critical dynamics with an emergent scaling symmetry in time. We find that the breakdown is characterized by a collision between the diffusive pole of the retarded Green's function with a pole associated to the AdS$_2$ region of the geometry, such that the local equilibration time is set by infra-red properties of the theory. The absolute values of the frequency and wavevector at the collision ($ω_{eq}$ and $k_{eq}$) provide a natural characterization of all the low temperature diffusivities $D$ of the states via $D=ω_{eq}/k_{eq}^2$ where $ω_{eq}=2πΔT$ is set by the temperature $T$ and the scaling dimension $Δ$ of an operator of the infra-red quantum critical theory. We confirm that these relations are also satisfied in an SYK chain model in the limit of strong interactions. Our work paves the way towards a deeper understanding of transport in quantum critical phases.

Jackiw-Teitelboim quantum gravity with defects and the Aharonov-Bohm effect

We study the theory of Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity with generalized dilaton potential on Euclidean two-dimensional negatively curved backgrounds. The effect of the generalized dilaton potential is to induce a conical defect on the two-dimensional manifold. We show that this theory can be written as the ordinary quantum mechanics of a charged particle on a hyperbolic disk in the presence of a constant background magnetic field plus a pure gauge Aharonov-Bohm field. This picture allows us to exactly calculate the wavefunctions and propagators of the corresponding gravitational dynamics. With this method we are able to reproduce the gravitational density of states as well as compute the Réyni and entanglement entropies for the Hartle-Hawking state. While we reproduce the classical entropy at high temperature, we also find an extra topological contribution that becomes dominant at low temperatures. We then show how the presence of defects modify correlation functions, including the out-of-time-ordered correlation, and decrease the Lyapunov exponent. This is achieved two ways: by directly quantizing the boundary Schwarzian theory and by dimensionally reducing $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ black holes.

REPORT: Investigation on Curvilinear Anisotropy via Isogeometric Analysis (IGA)

The advent of multi-material additive manufacturing and automated composite manufacturing has enabled the design of structures featuring complex curvilinear anisotropy. To take advantage of the new design space, efficient computational approaches are quintessential. In this study, we explored a new NURBS-based Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) framework for the simulation of curvilinear fiber composites and we compared it to standard Finite Element Analysis (FEA). A plate featuring a semi-circular notch under tensile loading with different fiber configurations served as a case study. We showed that, thanks to the exact geometric representation and the enriched continuity between elements, NURBS-based IGA outperforms classical FEA in terms of computational efficiency, time-consumption, and estimation quality of field variables for same number of degrees-of-freedom. To further demonstrate the use of the IGA framework, we performed optimization studies aimed at identifying the fiber paths minimizing stress concentration and Tsai-Wu failure index. The model showed that curvilinear anisotropy can be effectively harnessed to reduce the stress concentration of up to 82 % compared to unidirectional composites without affecting the overall plate stiffness significantly.

Hints of unitarity at large $N$ in the $O(N)^3$ tensor field theory

We compute the OPE coefficients of the bosonic tensor model of \cite{Benedetti:2019eyl} for three point functions with two fields and a bilinear with zero and non-zero spin. We find that all the OPE coefficients are real in the case of an imaginary tetrahedral coupling constant, while one of them is not real in the case of a real coupling. We also discuss the operator spectrum of the free theory based on the character decomposition of the partition function.

TeV-scale Majorogenesis

The Majoron, the Nambu-Goldstone boson of lepton number symmetry, is an interesting candidate for dark matter as it deeply connects the dark matter and neutrino physics. In this paper, we consider the Majoron dark matter as pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson with TeV-scale mass. The heavy Majoron generally has the large decay constant and tiny Yukawa couplings to light right-handed neutrinos which are required by cosmological and astrophysical observations. That makes it difficult to realize the desired amount of the relic abundance of Majoron dark matter. We consider three improved scenarios for the generation of Majoron, dubbed as Majorogenesis, in the early universe and find in all cases the parameter space compatible with the relic abundance and cosmic-ray constraints.

Near Conformal Perturbation Theory in SYK Type Models

We present a systematic procedure to extract the dynamics of the low energy soft mode in SYK type models with a single energy scale $J$ and emergent reparametrization symmetry in the IR. This is given in the framework of the perturbation theory scheme of arXiv:1608.07567 based on specific (off-shell) breaking of conformal invariance in the UV, adjusted to yield the exact large-$N$ saddle point. While this breaking formally vanishes on-shell, it has a non-trivial effect on correlation functions and the effective action. In particular, it leads to the Schwarzian action with a specific coupling to bi-local matter. The method is applied to the evaluation of $O(1)$ corrections to the correlation function of bi-locals. As a byproduct we confirm precise agreement with the explicit, symmetry breaking procedure. We provide a verification in the large $q$ limit (Liouville theory), where the correlators can be calculated exactly at all length scales. In this case, our scheme illuminates how the enhanced $O(J)$ and the subleading $O(1)$ contributions originate from the Schwarzian dynamics of the soft mode and its interaction with $h=2$ (bi-local) matter.

Conformal Symmetry and Composite Operators in the $O(N)^3$ Tensor Field Theory

We continue the study of the bosonic $O(N)^3$ model with quartic interactions and long-range propagator. The symmetry group allows for three distinct invariant $ϕ^4$ composite operators, known as tetrahedron, pillow and double-trace. As shown in arXiv:1903.03578 and arXiv:1909.07767, the tetrahedron operator is exactly marginal in the large-$N$ limit and for a purely imaginary tetrahedron coupling a line of real infrared fixed points (parametrized by the absolute value of the tetrahedron coupling) is found for the other two couplings. These fixed points have real critical exponents and a real spectrum of bilinear operators, satisfying unitarity constraints. This raises the question whether at large-$N$ the model is unitary, despite the tetrahedron coupling being imaginary. In this paper, we first rederive the above results by a different regularization and renormalization scheme. We then discuss the operator mixing for composite operators and we give a perturbative proof of conformal invariance of the model at the infrared fixed points by adapting a similar proof from the long-range Ising model. At last, we identify the scaling operators at the fixed point and compute the two- and three-point functions of $ϕ^4$ and $ϕ^2$ composite operators. The correlations have the expected conformal behavior and the OPE coefficients are all real, reinforcing the claim that the large-$N$ CFT is unitary.
