Cuspidal edges with the same first fundamental forms along a knot

Letting $C$ be a compact $C^ω$-curve embedded in $\boldsymbol R^3$ ($C^ω$ means real analyticity), we consider a $C^ω$-cuspidal edge $f$ along $C$. When $C$ is non-closed, in the authors' previous works, the local existence of three distinct cuspidal edges along $C$ whose first fundamental forms coincide with that of $f$ was shown, under a certain reasonable assumption on $f$. In this paper, if $C$ is closed, that is, $C$ is a knot, we show that there exist infinitely many cuspidal edges along $C$ having the same first fundamental form as that of $f$ such that their images are non-congruent to each other, in general.

Mixed type surfaces with bounded Gaussian curvature in three-dimensional Lorentzian manifolds

A mixed type surface is a connected regular surface in a Lorentzian 3-manifold with non-empty spacelike and timelike point sets. The induced metric of a mixed type surface is a signature-changing metric, and their lightlike points may be regarded as singular points of such metrics. In this paper, we investigate the behavior of Gaussian curvature at a non-degenerate lightlike point of a mixed type surface. To characterize the boundedness of Gaussian curvature at a non-degenerate lightlike points, we introduce several fundamental invariants along non-degenerate lightlike points, such as the lightlike singular curvature and the lightlike normal curvature. Moreover, using the results by Pelletier and Steller, we obtain the Gauss-Bonnet type formula for mixed type surfaces with bounded Gaussian curvature.

The axial curvature for corank 1 singular surfaces

For singular corank 1 surfaces in $\mathbb R^3$ we introduce a distinguished normal vector called the axial vector. Using this vector and the curvature parabola we define a new type of curvature called the axial curvature, which generalizes the singular curvature for frontal type singularities. We then study contact properties of the surface with respect to the plane orthogonal to the axial vector and show how they are related to the axial curvature. Finally, for certain fold type singularities, we relate the axial curvature with the Gaussian curvature of an appropriate blow up.

Geometric invariants of $5/2$-cuspidal edges

We introduce two invariants called the secondary cuspidal curvature and the bias on $5/2$-cuspidal edges, and investigate their basic properties. While the secondary cuspidal curvature is an analog of the cuspidal curvature of (ordinary) cuspidal edges, there are no invariants corresponding to the bias. We prove that the product (called the secondary product curvature) of the secondary cuspidal curvature and the limiting normal curvature is an intrinsic invariant. Using this intrinsity, we show that any real analytic $5/2$-cuspidal edges with non-vanishing limiting normal curvature admits non-trivial isometric deformations, which provide the extrinsity of various invariants.

On the geometry of folded cuspidal edges

We study the geometry of cuspidal $S_k$ singularities in $\mathbb R^3$ obtained by folding generically a cuspidal edge. In particular we study the geometry of the cuspidal cross-cap $M$, i.e. the cuspidal $S_0$ singularity. We study geometrical invariants associated to $M$ and show that they determine it up to order 5. We then study the flat geometry (contact with planes) of a generic cuspidal cross-cap by classifying submersions which preserve it and relate the singularities of the resulting height functions with the geometric invariants.

Flat surfaces along swallowtails

We consider developable surfaces along the singular set of a swallowtail which are considered to be flat approximations of the swallowtail. For the study of singularities of such developable surfaces, we introduce the notion of Darboux frames along swallowtails and invariants. As a by-product, we give a new example of a frontal which is locally homeomorphic to a swallowtail.

On pairs of geometric foliations on a cuspidal edge

We study the topological configurations of the lines of principal curvature, the asymptotic and characteristic curves on a cuspidal edge, in the domain of a parametrization of this surface as well as on the surface itself. Such configurations are determined by the 3-jets of a parametrization of the surface.

Normal form of swallowtail and its applications

We construct a form of swallowtail singularity in R^3 which uses coordinate transformation on the source and isometry on the target. As an application, we classify configurations of asymptotic curves and characteristic curves near swallowtail.

Geometry of cuspidal edges with boundary

We study differential geometric properties of cuspidal edges with boundary. There are several differential geometric invariants which are related with the behavior of the boundary in addition to usual differential geometric invariants of cuspidal edges. We study the relation of these invariants with several other invariants.

Fold singularities on spacelike CMC surfaces in Lorentz-Minkowski space

Fold singular points play important roles in the theory of maximal surfaces. For example, if a maximal surface admits fold singular points, it can be extended to a timelike minimal surface analytically. Moreover, there is a duality between conelike singular points and folds. In this paper, we investigate fold singular points on spacelike surfaces with non-zero constant mean curvature (spacelike CMC surfaces). We prove that spacelike CMC surfaces do not admit fold singular points. Moreover, we show that the singular point set of any conjugate CMC surface of a spacelike Delaunay surface with conelike singular points consists of (2,5)-cuspidal edges.

Isotopy of Morin singularities

We define an equivalence relation called A-isotopy between finitely determined map-germs, which is a strengthened version of A-equivalence. We consider the number of A-isotopy classes of equidimensional Morin singularities, and some other well-known low-dimensional singularities. We also give an application to stable perturbations of simple equi-dimensional map-germs.
