Determination of the Autocorrelation Distribution and 2-Adic Complexity of Generalized Cyclotomic Binary Sequences of Order 2 with Period pq

The generalized cyclotomic binary sequences $S=S(a, b, c)$ with period $n=pq$ have good autocorrelation property where $(a, b, c)\in \{0, 1\}^3$ and $p, q$ are distinct odd primes. For some cases, the sequences $S$ have ideal or optimal autocorrelation. In this paper we determine the autocorrelation distribution and 2-adic complexity of the sequences $S=S(a, b, c)$ for all $(a, b, c)\in \{0, 1\}^3$ in a unified way by using group ring language and a version of quadratic Gauss sums valued in group ring $R=\mathbb{Z}[Γ]$ where $Γ$ is a cyclic group of order $n$.

The 4-Adic Complexity of A Class of Quaternary Cyclotomic Sequences with Period 2p

In cryptography, we hope a sequence over $\mathbb{Z}_m$ with period $N$ having larger $m$-adic complexity. Compared with the binary case, the computation of 4-adic complexity of knowing quaternary sequences has not been well developed. In this paper, we determine the 4-adic complexity of the quaternary cyclotomic sequences with period 2$p$ defined in [6]. The main method we utilized is a quadratic Gauss sum $G_{p}$ valued in $\mathbb{Z}_{4^N-1}$ which can be seen as a version of classical quadratic Gauss sum. Our results show that the 4-adic complexity of this class of quaternary cyclotomic sequences reaches the maximum if $5\nmid p-2$ and close to the maximum otherwise.

$θ$-Congruent Numbers, Tiling Numbers and the Selmer Rank of Related Elliptic Curves: odd n

Several discrete geometry problems are closely related to the arithmetic theory of elliptic curves defined on the rational fields $\mathbb{Q}$. In this paper we consider the $θ$-congruent number for $θ=\fracπ{3}$ and $\frac{2π}{3}$ and tiling number n. For the case that $n\geqslant 2$ is square-free odd integer, we determine all $n$ such that the Selmer rank of elliptic curve $E_{n,\fracπ{3}}:\ y^2=x(x-n)(x+3n)$ or/and $E_{n,\frac{2π}{3}}:\ y^2=x(x+n)(x-3n)$ is zero. From this, we provide several series of non $θ$-congruent numbers for $θ=\fracπ{3}$ and $\frac{2π}{3}$, and non tiling numbers n with arbitrary many of prime divisors.

Determination of 2-Adic Complexity of Generalized Binary Sequences of Order 2

The generalized binary sequences of order 2 have been used to construct good binary cyclic codes [4]. The linear complexity of these sequences has been computed in [2]. The autocorrelation values of such sequences have been determined in [1] and [3]. Some lower bounds of 2-adic complexity for such sequences have been presented in [5] and [7]. In this paper we determine the exact value of 2-adic complexity for such sequences. Particularly, we improve the lower bounds presented in [5] and [7] and the condition for the 2-adic complexity reaching the maximum value.

On the Constructions of MDS Self-dual Codes via Cyclotomy

MDS self-dual codes over finite fields have attracted a lot of attention in recent years by their theoretical interests in coding theory and applications in cryptography and combinatorics. In this paper we present a series of MDS self-dual codes with new length by using generalized Reed-Solomon codes and extended generalized Reed-Solomon codes as the candidates of MDS codes and taking their evaluation sets as an union of cyclotomic classes. The conditions on such MDS codes being self-dual are expressed in terms of cyclotomic numbers.

An Unified Approach on Constructing of MDS Self-dual Codes via Reed-Solomon Codes

Based on the fundamental results on MDS self-dual codes over finite fields constructed via generalized Reed-Solomon codes \cite{JX} and extended generalized Reed-Solomon codes \cite{Yan}, many series of MDS self-dual codes with different length have been obtained recently by a variety of constructions and individual computations. In this paper, we present an unified approach to get several previous results with concise statements and simplified proofs, and some new constructions on MDS self-dual codes. In the conclusion section we raise two open problems.

On the 2-adic complexity of a class of binary sequences of period $4p$ with optimal autocorrelation magnitude

Via interleaving Ding-Helleseth-Lam sequences, a class of binary sequences of period $4p$ with optimal autocorrelation magnitude was constructed in \cite{W. Su}. Later, Fan showed that the linear complexity of this class of sequences is quite good \cite{C. Fan}. Recently, Sun et al. determined the upper and lower bounds of the 2-adic complexity of such sequences \cite{Y. Sun3}. We determine the exact value of the 2-adic complexity of this class of sequences. The results show that the 2-adic complexity of this class of binary sequences is close to the maximum.

On the 2-Adic Complexity of the Ding-Helleseth-Martinsen Binary Sequences

We determine the 2-adic complexity of the Ding-Helleseth-Martinsen (DHM) binary sequences by using cyclotomic numbers of order four, "Gauss periods" and "quadratic Gauss sum" on finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ and valued in $\mathbb{Z}_{2^N-1}$ where $q \equiv 5\pmod 8$ is a prime number and $N=2q$ is the period of the DHM sequences.

A new criterion on k-normal elements over finite fields

The notion of normal elements for finite fields extension has been generalized as k-normal elements by Huczynska et al. [3]. The number of k-normal elements for a fixed finite field extension has been calculated and estimated [3], and several methods to construct k-normal elements have been presented [1,3]. Several criteria on k-normal element have been given [1,2]. In this paper we present a new criterion on k-normal elements by using idempotents and show some examples. Such criterion has been given for usual normal element before [6].

Minimum Distance of New Generalizations of the Punctured Binary Reed-Muller Codes

Motivated by applications in combinatorial design theory and constructing LCD codes, C. Ding et al \cite{DLX} introduced cyclic codes $\mho(q,m,h)$ and $\bar\mho(q,m,h)$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$ as new generalization and version of the punctured binary Reed-Muller codes. In this paper, we show several new results on minimum distance of $\mho(q,m,h)$ and $\bar\mho(q,m,h)$ which are generalization or improvement of previous results given in \cite{DLX}.

Perfect State Transfer on Abelian Cayley Graphs

Perfect state transfer (PST) has great significance due to its applications in quantum information processing and quantum computation. In this paper we present a characterization on connected simple Cayley graph $Γ={\rm Cay}(G,S)$ having PST. We show that many previous results on periodicity and existence of PST of circulant graphs (where the underlying group $G$ is cyclic) and cubelike graphs ($G=(\mathbb{F}_2^n,+)$) can be derived or generalized to arbitrary abelian case in unified and more simple ways from our characterization. We also get several new results including answers on some problems raised before.

Cyclotomic Construction of Strong External Difference Families in Finite Fields

Strong external difference family (SEDF) and its generalizations GSEDF, BGSEDF in a finite abelian group $G$ are combinatorial designs raised by Paterson and Stinson [7] in 2016 and have applications in communication theory to construct optimal strong algebraic manipulation detection codes. In this paper we firstly present some general constructions of these combinatorial designs by using difference sets and partial difference sets in $G$. Then, as applications of the general constructions, we construct series of SEDF, GSEDF and BGSEDF in finite fields by using cyclotomic classes.

The $(n,m,k,λ)$-Strong External Difference Family with $m \geq 5$ Exists

The notion of strong external difference family (SEDF) in a finite abelian group $(G,+)$ is raised by M. B. Paterson and D. R. Stinson [5] in 2016 and motivated by its application in communication theory to construct $R$-optimal regular algebraic manipulation detection code. A series of $(n,m,k,λ)$-SEDF's have been constructed in [5, 4, 2, 1] with $m=2$. In this note we present an example of (243, 11, 22, 20)-SEDF in finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ $(q=3^5=243).$ This is an answer for the following problem raised in [5] and continuously asked in [4, 2, 1]: if there exists an $(n,m,k,λ)$-SEDF for $m\geq 5$.

Linear Codes over $\mathbb{F}_{q}[x]/(x^2)$ and $GR(p^2,m)$ Reaching the Griesmer Bound

We construct two series of linear codes over finite ring $\mathbb{F}_{q}[x]/(x^2)$ and Galois ring $GR(p^2,m)$ respectively reaching the Griesmer bound. They derive two series of codes over finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ by Gray map. The first series of codes over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ derived from $\mathbb{F}_{q}[x]/(x^2)$ are linear and also reach the Griesmer bound in some cases. Many of linear codes over finite field we constructed have two Hamming (non-zero) weights.

Mutually unbiased maximally entangled bases in $\mathbb{C}^d\otimes\mathbb{C}^d$

We study mutually unbiased maximally entangled bases (MUMEB's) in bipartite system $\mathbb{C}^d\otimes\mathbb{C}^d (d \geq 3)$. We generalize the method to construct MUMEB's given in [16], by using any commutative ring $R$ with $d$ elements and generic character of $(R,+)$ instead of $\mathbb{Z}_d=\mathbb{Z}/d\mathbb{Z}$. Particularly, if $d=p_1^{a_1}p_2^{a_2}\ldots p_s^{a_s}$ where $p_1, \ldots, p_s$ are distinct primes and $3\leq p_1^{a_1}\leq\cdots\leq p_s^{a_s}$, we present $p_1^{a_1}-1$ MUMEB's in $\mathbb{C}^d\otimes\mathbb{C}^d$ by taking $R=\mathbb{F}_{p_1^{a_1}}\oplus\cdots\oplus\mathbb{F}_{p_s^{a_s}}$, direct sum of finite fields (Theorem 3.3).

Construction of Cyclic and Constacyclic Codes for b-symbol Read Channels Meeting the Plotkin-like Bound

The symbol-pair codes over finite fields have been raised for symbol-pair read channels and motivated by application of high-density data storage technologies [1, 2]. Their generalization is the code for b-symbol read channels (b > 2). Many MDS codes for b-symbol read channels have been constructed which meet the Singleton-like bound ([3, 4, 10] for b = 2 and [11] for b > 2). In this paper we show the Plotkin-like bound and present a construction on irreducible cyclic codes and constacyclic codes meeting the Plotkin-like bound.

Linear Codes over Galois Ring $GR(p^2,r)$ Related to Gauss sums

Linear codes over finite rings become one of hot topics in coding theory after Hommons et al.([4], 1994) discovered that several remarkable nonlinear binary codes with some linear-like properties are the images of Gray map of linear codes over $Z_4$. In this paper we consider two series of linear codes $C(G)$ and $\widetilde{C}(G)$ over Galois ring $R=GR(p^2,r)$, where $G$ is a subgroup of $R^{(s)^*}$ and $R^{(s)}=GR(p^2,rs)$. We present a general formula on $N_β(a)$ in terms of Gauss sums on $R^{(s)}$ for each $a\in R$, where $N_β(a)$ is the number of a-component of the codeword $c_β\in C(G) (β\in R^{(s)})$ (Theorem 3.1). We have determined the complete Hamming weight distribution of $C(G)$ and the minimum Hamming distance of $\widetilde{C}(G)$ for some special G (Theorem 3.3 and 3.4). We show a general formula on homogeneous weight of codewords in $C(G)$ and $\widetilde{C}(G)$ (Theorem 4.5) for the special $G$ given in Theorem 3.4. Finally we obtained series of nonlinear codes over $\mathbb{F}_{q} \ (q=p^r)$ with two Hamming distance by using Gray map (Corollary 4.6).

Linear codes with a few weights from inhomogeneous quadratic functions

Linear codes with few weights have been an interesting subject of study for many years, as these codes have applications in secrete sharing, authentication codes, association schemes, and strongly regular graphs. In this paper, linear codes with a few weights are constructed from inhomogeneous quadratic functions over the finite field $\gf(p)$, where $p$ is an odd prime. They include some earlier linear codes as special cases. The weight distributions of these linear codes are also determined.
