Higher Spin Fronsdal Equations from the Exact Renormalization Group

We show that truncating the exact renormalization group equations of free $U(N)$ vector models in the single-trace sector to the linearized level reproduces the Fronsdal equations on $AdS_{d+1}$ for all higher spin fields, with the correct boundary conditions. More precisely, we establish canonical equivalence between the linearized RG equations and the familiar local, second order differential equations on $AdS_{d+1}$, namely the higher spin Fronsdal equations. This result is natural because the second-order bulk equations of motion on $AdS$ simply report the value of the quadratic Casimir of the corresponding conformal modules in the CFT. We thus see that the bulk Hamiltonian dynamics given by the boundary exact RG is in a different but equivalent canonical frame than that which is most natural from the bulk point of view.

1/N and Loop Corrections in Higher Spin AdS_4/CFT_3 Duality

We consider the question of loop corrections (i.e. 1/N) in the vector model/higher spin duality following the recent work of Giombi and Klebanov. The purpose of this paper is to gain further more precise comparison between the two sides of the duality. For CFTs given by 3d O(N) or U(N) vector models we evaluate the leading and one loop partition functions in a variety of geometries. Our calculations are performed in the scheme of collective field theory which was seen in earlier studies to represent a bulk description of Vasiliev higher spin theory. The calculations presented provide data for comparison of small fluctuation determinants giving further evidence for the one-to-one bulk identification between the bi-local and the AdS picture. They also offer insight into the identification of coupling constants G and 1/N of the two descriptions for models based on O(N) symmetry.

Perturbations of W(infinity) CFTs

The holographic duals of higher spin theories on AdS_3 are described by the large N limit of a family of minimal model CFTs, whose symmetry algebra is equivalent to W(infinity)[lambda]. We study perturbations of these limit theories, and show that they possess a marginal symmetry-preserving perturbation that describes switching on the 1/N corrections. We also test our general results for the specific cases of lambda=0,1, where free field realisations are available.

Probing higher spin black holes from CFT

In a class of 2D CFTs with higher spin symmetry, we compute thermal two-point functions of certain scalar primary operators in the presence of nonzero chemical potential for higher spin charge. These are shown to agree with the same quantity calculated holographically using scalar fields propagating in a charged black hole background of 3D higher spin gravity. This match serves as further evidence for the duality between W_N minimal models at large central charge and 3D higher spin gravity. It also supports a recent prescription for computing boundary correlators of multi-trace scalar primary operators in higher spin theories.

Higher Spin Gravity and Exact Holography

In this talk, we present some direct evidences of the Higher Spin/Vector Model correspondence. There are two particular examples we would like to address on. The first example concerns a constructive approach of four dimensional higher spin theory from 3d O(N) vector model based on a bi-local formulation. These bi-local fields are seen to give a bulk description of the higher spin theory with extra dimension and interactions. The second example is a similar AdS_3/CFT_2 duality put forward by Gaberdiel and Gopakumar. Specifically, we are interested in black hole solutions carrying nonzero higher spin charges. The partition function of the general hs[λ] higher spin black hole is computed from the CFT side using the W_\infty[λ] symmetry and we found a perfect agreement with the gravity result.

Perturbative and Non-Perturbative Aspects in Vector Model/Higher Spin Duality

We review some recent work on AdS/CFT duality involving the 3d O(N) Vector Model and AdS4 Higher Spin Gravity. Our construction is based on bi-local collective field theory which provides an off-shell formulation of Higher Spin Gravity with G = 1/N playing the role of a coupling constant. Consequently perturbative and non-perturbative issues of the theory can be studied. For the correspondence based on free CFT's we discuss the nature of bulk 1/N interactions through an S-matrix which is argued to be equal to 1 (Coleman-Mandula theorem). As a consequence in this class of theories nonlinearities are removable, through a nonlinear field transformation which we show at the exact level. We also describe a geometric (Kahler space) framework for the bi-local theory which applies equally simple to Sp(2N) fermions and the de Sitter correspondence. We discuss in this framework the structure and size of the bi-local Hilbert space and the implementation of (finite N) exclusion principle.

Higher Spin Black Holes from CFT

Higher spin gravity in three dimensions has explicit black holes solutions, carrying higher spin charge. We compute the free energy of a charged black hole from the holographic dual, a 2d CFT with extended conformal symmetry, and find exact agreement with the bulk thermodynamics. In the CFT, higher spin corrections to the free energy can be calculated at high temperature from correlation functions of W-algebra currents.

S=1 in O(N)/HS duality

Following the work of Maldacena and Zhiboedov, we study the implementation of the Coleman-Mandula theorem in the free O(N)/Higher Spin correspondence. In the bi-local framework we first define an S-matrix for scattering of collective dipoles. Its evaluation in the case of free UV fixed point theory leads to the result S=1 stated in the title. We also present an appropriate field transformation that is seen to transform away all the non-linear 1/N interactions of this theory. A change of boundary conditions and/or external potentials results in a nontrivial S-matrix.

Bi-local Model of AdS/CFT and Higher Spin Gravity

We shortly review the bi-local, collective dipole mechanism to a construction of Higher Spin AdS Gravity from the O(N) vector field theory. We also make some comments regarding an exact nonlinear comparison and in this regard we present a bi-local (symmetric) gauge description of Vasiliev's theory.

Collective Dipole Model of AdS/CFT and Higher Spin Gravity

We formulate a first quantized construction of the AdS_{d+1}/CFT_d correspondence using the bi-local representation of the free d-dimensional large N vector model. The earlier reconstruction of AdS_4 higher-spin gravity provides a scheme where the AdS spacetime (and higher-spin fields) are given by the composite bi-local fields. The underlying first quantized, world-sheet picture is extracted in the present work and generalized to any dimension. A higher-spin AdS particle model is shown to emerge from the collective bi-particle system of Minkowski particles through a canonical transformation. As such this construction provides a simple explicit mechanism of the AdS/CFT correspondence.

AdS_4/CFT_3 Construction from Collective Fields

We pursue the construction of higher-spin theory in AdS_4 from CFT_3 of the O(N) vector model in terms of canonical collective fields. In null plane quantization an exact map is established between the two spaces. The coordinates of the AdS_4 space-time are generated from the collective coordinates of the bi-local field. This, in the light cone gauge, provides an exact one to one reconstruction of bulk AdS_4 space-time and higher-spin fields.

AdS String: Classical Solutions and Moduli Dynamics

We review some recent work and techniques for constructing dynamical string solutions in AdS spacetime. These solutions generalize the folded string and multi-spike solutions of GKP and Kruczenski. The methods developed for constructing these dynamical solutions are based on Pohlmeyer reduction to integrable sinh-Gordon type equations. The integrability of the equations is seen as the crucial tool for reconstruction of the string configurations. We discuss the physical meaning of these dynamical spike solutions and the question of their moduli space.

Series Solution and Minimal Surfaces in AdS

According to the Alday-Maldacena program the strong coupling limit of Super Yang-Mills scattering amplitudes is given by minimal area surfaces in AdS spacetime with a boundary consisting of a momentum space polygon. The string equations in AdS systematically reduce to coupled Toda type equations whose Euclidean classical solutions are then of direct relevance. While in the simplest case of AdS_3 exact solutions were known from earlier studies of the sinh-Gordon equation, there exist at present no similar exact forms for the generalized Toda equations related to AdS_d with d>=4. In this paper we develop a series method for the solution to those equations and evaluate their contribution to the finite piece of the worldsheet area. For the known sinh-Gordon case the method is seen to give results in excellent agreement with the exact answer.

Moduli Dynamics of AdS_3 Strings

We construct a general class of solutions for a classical string in AdS_3 spacetime. The construction is based on a Pohlmeyer type reduction, with the sinh-Gordon model providing the general N-soliton solutions. The corresponding exact spiky string configurations are then reconstructed through the inverse scattering method. It is shown that the string moduli are determined entirely by those of the solitons.

Solitons and AdS String Solutions

In this contribution we describe some soliton based techniques for generating classical AdS string solutions. The methods introduced are useful for further understanding of rotating AdS configurations with spikes which correspond to higher twist operators in SYM theory. The main identification (accomplished in arXiv:0712.1193) between solitons and string spikes is reviewed and extended. We describe how inverse scattering technique can be applied for reconstructing AdS string configurations from soliton solutions of sinh-Gordon theory (in the example of ${\rm AdS}_3$).

Generating AdS String Solutions

We use a Pohlmeyer type reduction to generate classical string solutions in AdS spacetime. In this framework we describe a correspondence between spikes in AdS_3 and soliton profiles of the sinh-Gordon equation. The null cusp string solution and its closed spinning string counterpart are related to the sinh-Gordon vacuum. We construct classical string solutions corresponding to sinh-Gordon solitons, antisolitons and breathers by the inverse scattering technique. The breather solutions can also be reproduced by the sigma model dressing method.
