The rigidity of eigenvalues on Kähler manifolds with positive Ricci lower bound

In this work, optimal rigidity results for eigenvalues on Kähler manifolds with positive Ricci lower bound are established. More precisely, for those Kähler manifolds whose first eigenvalue agrees with the Ricci lower bound, we show that the complex projective space is the only one with the largest multiplicity of the first eigenvalue. Moreover, there is a specific gap between the largest and the second largest multiplicity. In the Kähler--Einstein case, almost rigidity results for eigenvalues are also obtained.

A transcendental approach to non-Archimedean metrics of pseudoeffective classes

We introduce the concept of non-Archimedean metrics attached to a transcendental pseudoeffective cohomology class on a compact Kähler manifold. This is obtained via extending the Ross-Witt Nyström correspondence to the relative case, and we point out that our construction agrees with that of Boucksom-Jonsson when the class is induced by a pseudoeffective $\mathbb Q$-line bundle. We introduce the notion of a flag configuration attached to a transcendental big class, recovering the notion of a test configuration in the ample case. We show that non-Archimedean finite energy metrics are approximable by flag configurations, and very general versions of the radial Ding energy are continuous, a novel result even in the ample case. As applications, we characterize the delta invariant as the Ding semistability threshold of flag configurations and filtrations and prove a YTD type existence theorem in terms of flag configurations.

Twisted Kähler-Einstein metrics in big classes

We prove existence of twisted Kähler-Einstein metrics in big cohomology classes, using a divisorial stability condition. In particular, when $-K_X$ is big, we obtain a uniform Yau-Tian-Donaldson existence theorem for Kähler-Einstein metrics. To achieve this, we build up from scratch the theory of Fujita-Odaka type delta invariants in the transcendental big setting, using pluripotential theory. We do not use the K-energy in our arguments, and our techniques provide a simple roadmap to prove Yau-Tian-Donaldson existence theorems for Kähler-Einstein type metrics, that only needs convexity of the appropriate Ding energy. As an application, we give a simplified proof of Li-Tian-Wang's existence theorem in the log Fano setting.

Eguchi--Hanson metrics arising from Kahler--Einstein edge metrics

Calabi--Hirzebruch manifolds are higher-dimensional generalizations of both the football and Hirzebruch surfaces. We construct a family of Kahler--Einstein edge metrics singular along two disjoint divisors on the Calabi--Hirzebruch manifolds and study their Gromov--Hausdorff limits when either cone angle tends to its extreme value. As a very special case, we show that the celebrated Eguchi--Hanson metric arises in this way naturally as a Gromov--Hausdorff limit. We also completely describe all other (possibly rescaled) Gromov--Hausdorff limits which exhibit a wide range of behaviors, resolving in this setting a conjecture of Cheltsov--Rubinstein. This gives a new interpretation of both the Eguchi--Hanson space and Calabi's Ricci flat spaces as limits of compact singular Einstein spaces.

A quantization proof of the uniform Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture

Using quantization techniques, we show that the $δ$-invariant of Fujita-Odaka coincides with the optimal exponent in certain Moser-Trudinger type inequality. Consequently we obtain a uniform Yau-Tian-Donaldson theorem for the existence of twisted Kähler-Einstein metrics with arbitrary polarizations. Our approach mainly uses pluripotential theory, which does not involve Cheeger-Colding-Tian theory or the non-Archimedean language. A new computable criterion for the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics is also given.

Continuity of delta invariants and twisted Kähler--Einstein metrics

We show that delta invariant is a continuous function on the big cone. We will also introduce an analytic delta invariant and show its continuity in the Kähler cone, from which we deduce the continuity of the greatest Ricci lower bound. Then building on the work Berman-Boucksom-Jonsson, we obtain a uniform Yau-Tian-Donaldson theorem for twisted Kähler-Einstein metrics in general Kähler classes.

Valuative invariants with higher moments

In this article we introduce a family of valuative invariants defined in terms of the $p$-th moment of the expected vanishing order. These invariants lie between $α$ and $δ$-invariants. They vary continuously in the big cone and semi-continuously in families. Most importantly, they can detect the K-stability of Fano varieties, which generalizes the $α$ and $δ$-criterions in the literature. They are also related to the $d_p$-geometry of maximal geodesic rays.

Angle deformation of Kähler-Einstein edge metrics on Hirzebruch surfaces

We construct a family of Kähler-Einstein edge metrics on all Hirzebruch surfaces using the Calabi ansatz and study their angle deformation. This allows us to verify in some special cases a conjecture of Cheltsov-Rubinstein that predicts convergence towards a non-compact Calabi-Yau fibration in the small angle limit. We also give an example of a Kähler-Einstein edge metric whose edge singularity is rigid, answering a question posed by Cheltsov.

Basis divisors and balanced metrics

Using log canonical thresholds and basis divisors Fujita--Odaka introduced purely algebro-geometric invariants $δ_m$ whose limit in $m$ is now known to characterize uniform K-stability on a Fano variety. As shown by Blum-Jonsson this carries over to a general polarization, and together with work of Berman, Boucksom, and Jonsson, it is now known that the limit of these $δ_m$-invariants characterizes uniform Ding stability. A basic question since Fujita-Odaka's work has been to find an analytic interpretation of these invariants. We show that each $δ_m$ is the coercivity threshold of a quantized Ding functional on the $m$-th Bergman space and thus characterizes the existence of balanced metrics. This approach has a number of applications. The most basic one is that it provides an alternative way to compute these invariants, which is new even for $\mathbb{P}^n$. Second, it allows us to introduce algebraically defined invariants that characterize the existence of Kähler-Ricci solitons (and the more general $g$-solitons of Berman-Witt Nyström), as well as coupled versions thereof. Third, it leads to approximation results involving balanced metrics in the presence of automorphisms that extend some results of Donaldson.

Compensated Convexity on Bounded Domains, Mixed Moreau Envelopes and Computational Methods

Compensated convex transforms have been introduced for extended real-valued functions defined over $\mathbb{R}^n$. In their application to image processing, interpolation, and shape interrogation, where one deals with functions defined over a bounded domain, one was making the implicit assumption that the function coincides with its transform at the boundary of the data domain. In this paper, we introduce local compensated convex transforms for functions defined in bounded open convex subsets $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$ by making specific extensions of the function to the whole space, and establish their relations to globally defined compensated convex transforms via the mixed critical Moreau envelopes. We find that the compensated convex transforms of such extensions coincide with the local compensated convex transforms in the closure of $Ω$. We also propose a numerical scheme for computing Moreau envelopes, establishing convergence of the scheme with the rate of convergence depending on the regularity of the original function. We give an estimate of the number of iterations needed for computing the discrete Moreau envelope. We then apply the local compensated convex transforms to image processing and shape interrogation. Our results are compared with those obtained by using schemes based on computing the convex envelope from the original definition of compensated convex transforms.

Compensated Convex Based Transforms for Image Processing and Shape Interrogation

This paper reviews some recent applications of the theory of the compensated convex transforms or of the proximity hull as developed by the authors to image processing and shape interrogation with special attention given to the Hausdorff stability and multiscale properties. The paper contains also numerical experiments that demonstrate the performance of our methods compared to the state-of-art ones.

Some refinements of the partial $C^0$ estimate

Relying on the recent work of Liu-Székelyhidi we give a weak asymptotic estimate for the Bergman kernels of polarized Kähler manifolds with Ricci lower bound and Sobolev constant upper bound. We will also give a simple proof for the partial $C^0$ estimate along the (generalized) Kähler-Ricci flow on Fano manifolds.

Small angle limits of Hamilton's footballs

Compact Ricci solitons on surfaces have at most two cone points, and are known as Hamilton's footballs. In this note we completely describe the degenerations of these footballs as one or both of the cone angles approaches zero. In particular, we show that Hamilton's famous non-compact cigar soliton is the Gromov--Hausdorff limit of Hamilton's compact conical teardrop solitons.

Compensated Convexity Methods for Approximations and Interpolations of Sampled Functions in Euclidean Spaces: Applications to Contour Lines, Sparse Data and Inpainting

This paper is concerned with applications of the theory of approximation and interpolation based on compensated convex transforms developed in [K. Zhang, E. Crooks, A. Orlando, Compensated convexity methods for approximations and interpolations of sampled functions in Euclidean spaces: Theoretical Foundations. SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis 48 (2016) 4126-4154]. We apply our methods to $(i)$ surface reconstruction starting from the knowledge of finitely many level sets (or `contour lines'); $(ii)$ scattered data approximation; $(iii)$ image inpainting. For $(i)$ and $(ii)$ our methods give interpolations. For the case of finite sets (scattered data), in particular, our approximations provide a natural triangulation and piecewise affine interpolation. Prototype examples of explicitly calculated approximations and inpainting results are presented for both finite and compact sets. We also show numerical experiments for applications of our methods to high density salt and pepper noise reduction in image processing, for image inpainting and for approximation and interpolations of continuous functions sampled on finitely many level sets and on scattered points.
