$\mathrm{L}^p$ bounds for parabolic Riesz transforms with rough coefficients: The case $1<p \leq 2$

We establish the first results on $\mathrm{L}^p$ bounds for Riesz transforms associated with non-autonomous second order parabolic differential operators in divergence form with bounded coefficients that depend measurably on all variables. In the case of complex coefficients, we identify the maximal open range of exponents $1<p \leq2$ through the availability of $\mathrm{L}^p$ resolvent bounds. This open range always contains the lower parabolic Sobolev conjugate of $2$ and the result is sharp in spatial dimension $n \geq 2$. For real coefficients, we prove extrapolation to the full range. Our argument relies on novel space-time off-diagonal bounds based on two complementary geometries: parabolic cubes on small scales and regions modeled after the half-order time derivative of a parabolic Bessel potential on large scales.

On well-posedness for second-order degenerate parabolic equations with unbounded lower-order terms

In this paper, we establish the well-posedness of Cauchy problems for weak solutions to second-order degenerate parabolic equations with a non-smooth, time-dependent degenerate elliptic part that includes both bounded and unbounded lower-order terms. The unbounded lower-order terms are allowed to lie in mixed time-space Lebesgue or even Lorentz spaces. Our notion of weak solutions is formulated under minimal assumptions. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a fundamental solution, which coincides with the associated evolution family for the homogeneous problem (i.e., with zero source term) and provides a representation formula for all weak solutions. We also establish $L^2$ off-diagonal estimates for the fundamental solution and derive Gaussian upper bounds under the weak assumption of Moser's $L^2$-$L^\infty$ estimates for weak solutions. Our approach is purely variational and avoids any a priori regularity assumptions on weak solutions or regularization via smooth approximations. Two key ingredients are norm inequalities for fractional powers of the degenerate Laplacian, and a set of embeddings that ensure time continuity of weak solutions, extending the classical Lions regularity theorem and accommodating a wide class of source terms.

On Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev estimates for degenerate Laplacians

We establish norm inequalities for fractional powers of degenerate Laplacians, with degeneracy being determined by weights in the Muckenhoupt class $A_2(\mathbb{R}^n)$, accompanied by specific additional reverse H\"older assumptions. This extends the known results for classical Riesz potentials. The approach is based on size estimates for the degenerate heat kernels. The approach also applies to more general weighted degenerate operators.

Fundamental solutions for parabolic equations and systems: universal existence, uniqueness, representation

In this paper, we develop a universal, conceptually simple and systematic method to prove well-posedness to Cauchy problems for weak solutions of parabolic equations with non-smooth, time-dependent, elliptic part having a variational definition. Our classes of weak solutions are taken with minimal assumptions. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a fundamental solution which seems new in this generality: it is shown to always coincide with the associated evolution family for the initial value problem with zero source and it yields representation of all weak solutions. Our strategy is a variational approach avoiding density arguments, a priori regularity of weak solutions or regularization by smooth operators. One of our main tools are embedding results which yield time continuity of our weak solutions going beyond the celebrated Lions regularity theorem and that is addressing a variety of source terms. We illustrate our results with three concrete applications : second order uniformly elliptic part with Dirichlet boundary condition on domains, integro-differential elliptic part, and second order degenerate elliptic part.

Degenerate parabolic equations in divergence form: fundamental solution and Gaussian bounds

In this paper, we consider second order degenerate parabolic equations with complex, measurable, and time-dependent coefficients. The degenerate ellipticity is dictated by a spatial $A_2$-weight. We prove that having a generalized fundamental solution with upper Gaussian bounds is equivalent to Moser's $L^2$-$L^\infty$ estimates for local weak solutions. In the special case of real coefficients, Moser's $L^2$-$L^\infty$ estimates are known, which provide an easier proof of Gaussian upper bounds, and a known Harnack inequality is then used to derive Gaussian lower bounds.
