Suppression of the elastic scattering cross section for 17Ne + 208Pb system

We investigated the elastic scattering, inelastic scattering, breakup reaction, and total fusion reactions of 17Ne + 208Pb system using the optical model (OM) and a coupled channel (CC) approaches. The aim of this study is to elucidate the suppress of the elastic cross-section that is invisible in proton-rich nuclei such as 8B and 17F projectiles but appears in neutron-rich nuclei such as 11Li and 11Be projectiles. The results revealed that this suppression was caused mainly by the nuclear interaction between the projectile and target nucleus rather than the strong Coulomb interaction observed in neutron-rich nuclei and the contributions of Coulomb excitation interaction due to two low-lying E2 resonance states are relatively small. From the simultaneous chi-square analysis of the 17Ne + 208Pb system, we can infer a strong suppression effect in the elastic scattering cross-section due to the nuclear interaction between the projectile and target nucleus, rather than the Coulomb interaction as observed in neutron-rich nuclei. Also, the contribution of the direct reaction, comprising the inelastic scattering and breakup reaction cross-sections, accounted for almost half of the total reaction. Finally, we perform the CC calculation using the parameters obtained from our OM calculation but our CC calculations could not explain the 15O production cross section.

Folding potential with modern nuclear density functionals and application to 16O+208Pb reaction

Double folding potential is constructed using the M3Y interaction and the matter densities of the projectile and target nuclei obtained from four microscopic energy density functional (EDF) models. The elastic scattering cross sections for the 16O+208Pb system are calculated using the optical model with the double folding potentials of the four EDF models. We focus on the correlation between the matter densities and the behavior the double folding potential and the elastic scattering cross sections. First, the matter and charge densities are examined by comparing the results of the four EDF models. There is a slight difference in the density in the internal region, but it is negligible in the outer region. Next, we calculate the double folding potential with the matter densities obtained from the four EDF models. Differences between the models are negligible in the outer region, but the potential depth in the internal region shows model dependence, which can be understood from the behavior of matter densities in the internal region. Another point is that the double folding potential is shown to be weakly dependent on the incident energy. Finally, the elastic scattering cross sections have no significant model dependence except for the slight difference in the backward angle.

Fusion reaction of a weakly-bound nucleus with a deformed target

We discuss the role of deformation of the target nucleus in the fusion reaction of the $^{15}$C + $^{232}$Th system at energies around the Coulomb barrier, for which $^{15}$C is a well-known one-neutron halo nucleus. To this end, we construct the potential between $^{15}$C and $^{232}$Th with the double folding procedure, assuming that the projectile nucleus is composed of the core nucleus, $^{14}$C, and a valance neutron. By taking into account the halo nature of the projectile nucleus as well as the deformation of the target nucleus, we simultaneously reproduce the fusion cross sections for the $^{14}$C + $^{232}$Th and the $^{15}$C + $^{232}$Th systems. Our calculation indicates that the net effect of the breakup and the transfer channels is small for this system.

Extended optical model analyses of $^{11}$Be+$^{197}$Au with dynamic polarization potentials

We discuss angular distributions of elastic, inelastic, and breakup cross sections for $^{11}$Be + $^{197}$Au system, which were measured at energies below and around Coulomb barrier. To this end, we employ Coulomb dipole excitation (CDE) and long-range nuclear (LRN) potential to take into account long range effects by halo nuclear system and break up effects by weakly-bound structure. We then analyze recent experimental data including 3-channes i.e. elastic, inelastic, and breakup cross sections, at $E_{\textrm{c.m.}}$=29.6 MeV and $E_{\text{c.m.}}$=37.1 MeV. From the extracted parameter sets using $χ^{2}$ analysis, we successfully reproduce the experimental angular distributions of the elastic, inelastic, and breakup cross sections for $^{11}$Be+$^{197}$Au system simultaneously. Also we discuss the necessity of LRN potential around Coulomb barrier from analyzed experimental data.

Coupled-channels analyses for $^{9,11}$Li + $^{208}$Pb fusion reactions with multi-neutron transfer couplings

We discuss the role of two-neutron transfer processes in the fusion reaction of the $^{9,11}$Li + $^{208}$Pb systems. We first analyze the $^{9}$Li + $^{208}$Pb reaction by taking into account the coupling to the $^{7}$Li + $^{210}$Pb channel. To this end, we assume that two neutrons are directly transferred to a single effective channel in $^{210}$Pb and solve the coupled-channels equations with the two channels. By adjusting the coupling strength and the effective $Q$-value, we successfully reproduce the experimental fusion cross sections for this system. We then analyze the $^{11}$Li + $^{208}$Pb reaction in a similar manner, that is, by taking into account three effective channels with $^{11}$Li + $^{208}$Pb, $^{9}$Li + $^{210}$Pb, and $^{7}$Li + $^{212}$Pb partitions. In order to take into account the halo structure of the $^{11}$Li nucleus, we construct the potential between $^{11}$Li and $^{208}$Pb with a double folding procedure, while we employ a Wood-Saxon type potential with the global Akyüz-Winther parameters for the other channels. Our calculation indicates that the multiple two-neutron transfer process plays a crucial role in the $^{11}$Li + $^{208}$Pb fusion reaction at energies around the Coulomb barrier.

Flavor analysis of nucleon, $Δ$, and hyperon electromagnetic form factors

By the analysis of the world data base of elastic electron scattering on the proton and the neutron (for the latter, in fact, on $^2H$ and $^3He$) important experimental insights have recently been gained into the flavor compositions of nucleon electromagnetic form factors. We report on testing the Graz Goldstone-boson-exchange relativistic constituent-quark model in comparison to the flavor contents in low-energy nucleons, as revealed from electron-scattering phenomenology. It is found that a satisfactory agreement is achieved between theory and experiment for momentum transfers up to $Q^2\sim$ 4 GeV$^2$, relying on three-quark configurations only. Analogous studies have been extended to the $Δ$ and the hyperon electromagnetic form factors. For them we here show only some sample results in comparison to data from lattice quantum chromodynamics.

Effects of the density-dependent weak form factors on the neutrino reaction via neutral current for the nucleon in nuclear medium and $^{12}$C

The nucleon form factors in free space are usually thought to be modified when a nucleon is bound in a nucleus or immersed in a nuclear medium. We investigate effects of the density-dependent axial and weak-vector form factors on the electro-neutrino ($ν_e$) and anti-electro-neutrino $({\bar ν_e})$ reactions via neutral current (NC) for a nucleon in nuclear medium or $^{12}$C. For the density-dependent form factors, we exploit the quark-meson-coupling (QMC) model, and apply them to the $ν_e$ and ${\bar ν_e}$ induced reactions by NC. About 12% decrease of the total cross section by $ν_e$ reaction on the nucleon is obtained at normal density, $ρ= ρ_0 \sim 0.15 {fm}^{-3} $, as well as about 18% reduction of total $ν_e$ cross section on $^{12}$C, by the modification of the weak form factors of the bound nucleon. However, similarly to the charged current reaction, effects of the nucleon property change in the ${\bar ν}_e$ reaction reduce significantly the cross sections about 30% for the nucleon in matter and $^{12}$C cases. Such a large asymmetry in the ${\bar ν}_e$ cross sections is addressed to originate from the different helicities of ${\bar ν}_e$ and $ν_e$.

Universal Constituent-Quark Model for Baryons

We present a relativistic constituent-quark model that covers all known baryons from the nucleon up to $Ω_{bbb}$. The corresponding invariant mass operator includes a linear confinement and a hyperfine interaction based on effective degrees of freedom. The model provides for a unified description of practically all baryon spectra in good agreement with present phenomenology and it can tentatively be employed for the relativistic treatment of all kinds of baryon reactions. Predictions of states still missing in the phenomenological data base, especially in the lesser explored heavy-flavor sectors of charm and bottom baryons, should be important especially for future experiments in these areas.

Effective Quark-Quark Interaction in Heavy Baryons

We report results from a study of heavy-baryon spectroscopy within a relativistic constituent- quark model, whose hyperfine interaction is based on Goldstone-boson-exchange dynamics. While for light-flavor constituent quarks it is now commonly accepted that the effective quark-quark interaction is (predominantly) furnished by Goldstone-boson exchange - due to spontaneous chiral-symmetry breaking of quantum chromodynamics at low energies - there is currently still much speculation about the light-heavy and heavy-heavy quark-quark interactions. With the increasing amount of experimental data on heavy-baryon spectroscopy these issues might soon be settled. Here, we show, how the relativistic constituent-quark model with Goldstone-boson-exchange hyperfine interactions can be extended to charm and bottom baryons. It is found that the same model that has previously been successful in reproducing the light and strange baryon spectra is also in line with the existing phenomenological data on heavy-baryon spectroscopy. An analogous model with one-gluon-exchange hyperfine interactions for light-heavy flavors does not achieve a similarly good performance.

Axial charges of octet and decuplet baryons

We present a study of axial charges of baryon ground and resonant states with relativistic constituent quark models. In particular, the axial charges of octet and decuplet $N$, $Σ$, $Ξ$, $Δ$, $Σ^*$, and $Ξ^*$ baryons are considered. The theoretical predictions are compared to existing experimental data and results from other approaches, notably from lattice quantum chromodynamics and chiral perturbation theory. The relevance of axial charges with regard to $π$-dressing and spontaneous chiral-symmetry breaking is discussed.

Axial charges of the nucleon and N* resonances

The axial charges of the nucleon and the well-established N* resonances are studied within a consistent framework. For the first time the axial charges of the N* resonances are produced for the relativistic constituent quark model. The axial charge of the nucleon is predicted close to experiment, and the ones of N*(1535) and N*(1650), the only cases where such a comparison is possible, agree well with results from quantum chromodynamics on the lattice that have recently become available. The relevance of the magnitudes of the N* axial charges for the low-energy behavior of quantum chromodynamics is discussed.

eta photoproduction and N* resonances

We investigate the eta photoproduction using the effective Lagrangian approach at the tree level. We focus on the new nucleon resonance N*(1675), which was reported by the GRAAL, CB-ELSA and Tohoku LNS, testing its possible spin and parity states theoretically (J^P=1/2^+-,3/2^+-). In addition, we include six nucleon resonances, D_13(1520), S_11(1535), S_11(1650), D_15(1675), P_11(1710), P_13(1720) as well as the possible background contributions. We calculate various cross sections including beam asymmetries for the neutron and proton targets. We find noticeable isospin asymmetry in transition amplitudes for photon and neutron targets. This observation may indicate that the new resonance can be identified as a non-strangeness member of the baryon antidecuplet.

A new nucleon resonance in eta photoproduction

We present in this talk recent investigations on the nucleon-like resonance N*(1675) newly found in eta photoproduction by the GRAAL, Tohoku LNS-gamma and CB-ELSA collaborations. We focus on the production mechanism of the N*(1675), examining its spin and parity theoretically within the framework of the effective Lagrangian method. We expliucitly consider D_{13}(1520), S_{11}(1535), S_{11}(1650), D_{15}(1675), P_{11}(1710), P_{13}(1720) as well as possible background contributions. We calculate the differential cross sections and beam asymmetries for the neutron and proton targets. It turns out that there is manifest isospin asymmetry in eta photoproduction, which can be explained by the asymmetry in the transition magnetic moments: mu_{gamma p p*} =<mu_{gamma n n*}. Moreover, we find that the spin-1/2 state is preferred and this observation implies that the new resonance may be identified as a non-strangeness member of the baryon antidecuplet.

A new candidate for non-strangeness pentaquarks: N*(1675)

We study a new nucleon resonance from eta photoproduction, which was observed at sqrt{s}=1675 MeV with a narrow decay width (~10 MeV) by the Tohoku LNS group as well as the GRAAL collaboration. Using an effective Lagrangian approach, we compute differential cross sections for the eta photoproduction. In addition to N*(1675,1/2+-,3/2+-), we employ six other nucleon resonances, i.e. N*(1520,1535,1650,1675,1710,1720) and vector meson exchanges which are the most relevant ones to this reaction process. As a result, we can reproduce the GRAAL data qualitatively well and observe obvious isospin asymmetry between the transition magnetic moments of N*(1675): mu_{gamma nn*} >> mu_{gamma pp*}, which indicates that the newly found nucleon resonance may be identified as a non-strange pentaquark state.

Test of the reaction mechanism for gamma N -> K Lambda(1520) using the polarized photon

We study the reaction mechanism for the photoproduction of the Lambda(1520), based on an effective Lagrangian approach. We investigate each contribution of the s-, u-, t-channel processes and contact term, separately. One of the most characteristic features of this reaction is the contact-term dominance which governs the photoproduction from the proton, when the K*-exchange contribution is possibly not too large. We suggest several different ways of the polarizations and arrangement of the beam and target to make to understand the role of each contribution separately in future experiments.

A new $N^*(1675)$ resonance in the $γN\toηN$ reaction

We study the $η$-photoproduction focusing on the new nucleon resonance which was observed at $\sqrt{s}=1675$ MeV with a narrow decay width ($\sim 10$ MeV) in the recent GRAAL experiment. Using an effective Lagrangian approach, we compute differential cross sections for the $η$-photoproduction. In addition to $N^*(1675)$, we employ three other nucleon resonances, i.e. $N^*(1535)$, $N^*(1650)$ and $N^*(1710)$, and vector meson exchanges which are the most relevant ones to this reaction process. As a result, we can reproduce the GRAAL data qualitatively well and observe obvious isospin asymmetry between the transition magnetic moments of $N^*(1675)$: $μ_{γnn^*}\ggμ_{γpp^*}$.
