Primordial curvature perturbation during and at the end of multi-field inflation

We study the generation of the primordial curvature perturbation in multi-field inflation. Considering both the evolution of the perturbation during inflation and the effects generated at the end of inflation, we present a general formula for the curvature perturbation. We provide the analytic expressions of the power spectrum, spectral tilt and non-Gaussianity for the separable potentials of two inflaton scalars, and apply them to some specific models.

Natural Hybrid Inflation Model with Large Non-Gaussianity

We propose an inflationary model ("natural hybrid model"), which combines the supersymmetric hybrid model and the natural inflation model to achieve the spectral index of 0.96, and the axion decay constant smaller than the Planck scale, f<< M_P. By introducing both U(1)_R and a shift symmetry and employing the minimal Kahler potential, the eta-problem can be still avoided. The two inflaton fields in this model can admit large non-Gaussianity.

Techni-dilaton as Dark Matter

We propose a new dark matter candidate, {\it light decoupled techni-dilaton}, which arises from the almost scale-invariant/conformal (walking) technicolor. We investigate its characteristic nature and discuss several cosmological and astrophysical constraints. It turns out that techni-dilatons are extremely weakly interacting and produced dominantly by the non-thermal mechanism to be the main component of dark matter with mass range between around 0.01 eV and 500 eV for typical walking technicolor scenarios.

Indirect detection of gravitino dark matter including its three-body decays

It was recently pointed out that in supersymmetric scenarios with gravitino dark matter and bilinear R-parity violation, gravitinos with masses below Mw typically decay with a sizable branching ratio into the 3-body final states W^*+lepton and Z^*+neutrino. In this paper we study the indirect detection signatures of gravitino dark matter including such final states. First, we obtain the gamma ray spectrum from gravitino decays, which features a monochromatic contribution from the decay into photon+neutrino and a continuum contribution from the three-body decays. After studying its dependence on supersymmetric parameters, we compute the expected gamma ray fluxes and derive new constraints, from recent FERMI data, on the R-parity breaking parameter and on the gravitino lifetime. Indirect detection via antimatter searches, a new possibility brought about by the three-body final states, is also analyzed. For models compatible with the gamma ray observations, the positron signal is found to be negligible whereas the antiproton one can be significant.

How the curvaton scenario, modulated reheating and an inhomogeneous end of inflation are related

In this paper we analyse three models of the early universe, for which the respective mechanisms for generating the curvature perturbation are considered disparate. We find that in fact the mechanisms are very similar, and hence explain why they give rise to a large non-gaussianity. We show that the mechanism for generating the primordial curvature perturbation, and hence the observable non-gaussianity, is similar in both the Curvaton and Modulated Reheating models. In both cases the model can be written in terms of an energy transfer between the constituting fluids. We then show that this is also true for the mechanism of generating the curvature perturbation by symmetry breaking the end of inflation. We then relate this to the non-gaussian contribution to the curvature perturbation and find that it is inversely proportional to the efficiency with which the curvature perturbation is transferred between the fluids. For the first time, we generalise models of modulated reheating to allow for a non-linear energy transfer rate.

Dark matter, mu problem and neutrino mass with gauged R-symmetry

We show that the mu problem and the strong CP problem can be resolved in the context of the gauged U(1)_R symmetry, realizing an automatic Peccei-Quinn symmetry. In this scheme, right-handed neutrinos can be introduced to explain small Majorana or Dirac neutrino mass. The U(1)_R D-term mediated SUSY breaking, called the U(1)_R mediation, gives rise to a specific form of the flavor-conserving superpartner masses. For the given solution to the mu problem, electroweak symmetry breaking condition requires the superpartners of the Standard Model at low energy to be much heavier than the gravitino. Thus dark matter candidate can be either gravitino or right-handed sneutrino. In the Majorana neutrino case, only gravitino is a natural dark matter candidate. On the other hand, in the Dirac neutrino case, the right-handed sneutrino can be also a dark matter candidate as it gets mass only from SUSY breaking. We discuss the non-thermal production of our dark matter candidates from the late decay of stau and find that the constraints from the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis can be evaded for a TeV-scale stau mass.

Non-Gaussianity and gravitational wave background in curvaton with a double well potential

We study the density perturbation by a curvaton with a double well potential and estimate the nonlinear parameters for non-Gaussianity and the amplitude of gravitational wave background generated during inflation. The predicted nonlinear parameters strongly depend on the size of a curvaton self-coupling constant as well as the reheating temperature after inflation for a given initial amplitude of the curvaton. The difference from usual massive self-interacting curvaton is also emphasized.

Review of local non-Gaussianity from multi-field inflation

We review models which generate a large non-Gaussianity of the local form. We first briefly consider three models which generate the non-Gaussianity either at or after the end of inflation; the curvaton scenario, modulated (p)reheating and an inhomogeneous end of inflation. We then focus on ways of generating the non-Gaussianity during inflation. We derive general conditions which a product or sum separable potential must satisfy in order to generate a large local bispectrum during slow-roll inflation. As an application we consider two-field hybrid inflation. We then derive a formalism not based on slow roll which can be applied to models in which the slow-roll parameters become large before inflation ends. An exactly soluble two-field model is given in which this happens. Finally we also consider further non-Gaussian observables; a scale dependence of f_NL and the trispectrum.

New decay modes of gravitino dark matter

We consider the three-body decays of gravitino dark matter in supersymmetric scenarios with bilinear R-parity violation. In particular, gravitino decays into lepton+W^* (lepton f\bar f') and ν+Z^* (νf\bar f) are examined for gravitino masses below Mw. After computing the gravitino decay rates into these three-body final states and studying their dependence on supersymmetric parameters, we find that these new decay modes are often more important than the two-body decay, into a photon and a neutrino, considered in previous works. Consequently, the gravitino lifetime and its branching ratios are substantially modified, with important implications for the indirect detection of gravitino dark matter.

Gamma-ray detection from gravitino dark matter decay in the $μν$SSM

The $μν$SSM provides a solution to the $μ$-problem of the MSSM and explains the origin of neutrino masses by simply using right-handed neutrino superfields. Given that R-parity is broken in this model, the gravitino is a natural candidate for dark matter since its lifetime becomes much longer than the age of the Universe. We consider the implications of gravitino dark matter in the $μν$SSM, analyzing in particular the prospects for detecting gamma rays from decaying gravitinos. If the gravitino explains the whole dark matter component, a gravitino mass larger than 20 GeV is disfavored by the isotropic diffuse photon background measurements. On the other hand, a gravitino with a mass range between 0.1-20 GeV gives rise to a signal that might be observed by the FERMI satellite. In this way important regions of the parameter space of the $μν$SSM can be checked.

Implications of an astrophysical interpretation of PAMELA and Fermi-LAT data for future searches of a positron signal from dark matter annihilations

The recent data from PAMELA and Fermi-LAT can be interpreted as evidence of new astrophysical sources of high energy positrons. In that case, such astrophysical positrons constitute an additional background against the positrons from dark matter annihilation. In this paper, we study the effect of that background on the prospects for the detection of a positron dark matter signal in future experiments. In particular, we determine the new regions in the (mass, $\sigmav$) plane that are detectable by the AMS-02 experiment for several dark matter scenarios and different propagation models. We find that, due to the increased background, these regions feature annihilation rates that are up to a factor or three larger than those obtained for the conventional background. That is, an astrophysical interpretation of the present data by PAMELA and Fermi-LAT implies that the detection of positrons from dark matter annihilation is slightly more challenging than previously believed.

A Re-analysis of Gravitino Dark Matter in the Constrained MSSM

We re-consider the gravitino as dark matter in the framework of the Constrained MSSM. We include several recently suggested improvements on: (i) the thermal production of gravitinos, (ii) the calculation of the hadronic spectrum from NLSP decay and (iii) the BBN calculation including stau bound-state effects. In most cases we find an upper bound on the reheating temperature $\treh\lsim {\rm a few}\times 10^7\gev$ from over-production of $^6{\rm Li}$ from bound state effects. We also find an upper limit on the stau lifetime of $3\times10^4 \sec$, which is nearly an order of magnitude larger than the simple limit $5\times 10^3 \sec$ often used to avoid the effect of bound-state catalysis. The bound on $\treh$ is relaxed to $\lsim {\rm a few}\times 10^8\gev$ when we use a more conservative bound on ${^6}{\rm Li}/{^7}{\rm Li}$, in which case a new region at small stau mass at $\sim 100\gev$ and much longer lifetimes opens up. Such a low stau mass region can be easily tested at the LHC.

U(1)_R-mediated supersymmetry breaking from a six-dimensional flux compactification

We study the U(1)_R-mediated supersymmetry breaking in a flux compactification of 6D chiral gauged supergravity with codimension-two branes. We consider a concrete model with manifest U(1)_R invariance for moduli stabilization and visible sector in the context of 4D effective supergravity with gauged U(1)_R and determine soft scalar masses in the visible sector mainly by a nonzero U(1)_R D-term. We obtain a low energy superparticle spectrum and discuss on the implications of the obtained non-universal scalar soft masses on the SUSY phenomenology such as dark matter relic abundances.

Large non-Gaussianity from two-component hybrid inflation

We study the generation of non-Gaussianity in models of hybrid inflation with two inflaton fields, (2-brid inflation). We analyse the region in the parameter and the initial condition space where a large non-Gaussianity may be generated during slow-roll inflation which is generally characterised by a large f_NL, tau_NL and a small g_NL. For certain parameter values we can satisfy tau_NL>>f_NL^2. The bispectrum is of the local type but may have a significant scale dependence. We show that the loop corrections to the power spectrum and bispectrum are suppressed during inflation, if one assume that the fields follow a classical background trajectory. We also include the effect of the waterfall field, which can lead to a significant change in the observables after the waterfall field is destabilised, depending on the couplings between the waterfall and inflaton fields.

Evolution of the curvature perturbation during and after multi-field inflation

We study the evolution of the curvature perturbation on the super-horizon scales starting from the inflationary epoch until there remains only a single dynamical degree of freedom, presureless matter, in the universe. We consider the cosmic inflation driven by a multiple number of the inflaton fields, which decay into both radiation and pressureless matter components. We present a complete set of the exact background and perturbation equations which describe the evolution of the universe throughout its history. By applying these equations to the simple but reasonable model of multi-field chaotic inflation, we explicitly show that the total curvature perturbation is continuously varying because of the non-adiabatic components of the curvature perturbation generated by the multiple inflaton fields throughout the whole evolution of the universe. We also provide an useful analytic estimation of the total as well as matter and radiation curvature perturbations, assuming that matter is completely decoupled from radiation from the beginning. The resulting isocurvature perturbation between matter and radiation is at most sub-percent level when the masses of the inflaton fields are distributed between $10^{-6}m_{pl}$ and $10^{-5}m_{pl}$. We find that this result is robust unless we use non-trivial decay rates, and that thus, in general, it is hard to obtain large matter-radiation isocurvature perturbation. Also, by using the $δ{N}$ formalism, we point out that the inflationary calculation, especially when involving multiple inflaton fields, is likely to lose the potentially important post-inflationary evolution which can modify the resulting curvature perturbation.

Determining Reheating Temperature at LHC with Axino or Gravitino Dark Matter

After a period of inflationary expansion, the Universe reheated and reached full thermal equilibrium at the reheating temperature. In this talk, based on the paper, arXiv:0710.3349, we point out that, in the context of effective low-energy supersymmetric models, LHC measurements may allow one to determine reheating temperature as a function of the mass of the dark matter particle assumed to be either an axino or a gravitino. An upper bound on their mass and on the reheating temperature may also be derived.

Solving the Cosmic Lithium Problems with Gravitino Dark Matter in the CMSSM

Standard Big Bang nucleosynthesis at baryonic density as inferred by WMAP implies a primordial Li7 abundance factor of two to three larger than that inferred by observations of low--metallicity halo stars. Recent observations of Li6 in halo stars suggest a pre--galactic origin of this isotope, which is exceedingly difficult to explain by putative high redshift cosmic ray populations. We investigate if one or both of these lithium problems may be solved by late decaying relic particles in the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) coupled to gravity. Assuming that the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) we find that in large parts of the CMSSM parameter space either of these problems can be potentially solved. In particular, we also find solutions where both lithium problems may be solved simultaneously. These entail the hadronic decay of relic 1 TeV staus into 100 GeV gravitinos at 1000 sec after the Big Bang, as proposed by one of us before. Moreover, the produced gravitinos naturally contribute a large fraction, or all, to the by WMAP required dark matter density. A prediction of this model is the dark matter to be lukewarm with free--streaming lengths of the order of a 4 keV early freezing--out relic particle. Such lukewarm gravitino dark matter may have beneficial effects to the formation of galactic structures and may be constrained by the reionisation history of the Universe. The current version of the paper presents results for both cases (a) when catalytic nuclear reations are included and (b) when they are neglected.

Conditions for large non-Gaussianity in two-field slow-roll inflation

We study the level of primordial non-Gaussianity in slow-roll two-field inflation. Using an analytic formula for the nonlinear parameter f_nl in the case of a sum or product separable potential, we find that it is possible to generate significant non-Gaussianity even during slow-roll inflation with Gaussian perturbations at Hubble exit. In this paper we give the general conditions to obtain large non-Gaussianity and calculate the level of fine-tuning required to obtain this. We present explicit models in which the non-Gaussianity at the end of inflation can exceed the current observational bound of |f_nl|<100.
