Quasinormal modes, shadow and greybody factors of 5D electrically charged Bardeen black holes

We study quasinormal modes (QNMs) in 5D electrically charged Bardeen black holes spacetime by considering the scalar and electromagnetic field perturbations. The black holes spacetime is an exact solution of Einstein gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics in five dimensions, which has nonsingular behavior. To calculate QNMs, we use the WKB approximation method up to sixth order. Due to the presence of electric charge $q_e > 0$, both the scalar and electromagnetic field perturbations decay more slowly when compared to the Schwarzschild-Tangherlini black holes. We discover that the scalar field perturbations oscillate more rapidly when compared to the electromagnetic field perturbations. In terms of damping, the scalar field perturbations damp more quickly. Graphically we show that the transmission (reflection) coefficients decrease (increase) with an increase in the magnitude of the electric charge $q_e$. The emission of gravitational waves allows spacetime to undergo damped oscillations due to the nonzero value of the imaginary part, which is always negative. The imaginary part of the QNMs frequencies is continuously decreasing with an increase in the magnitude of the electric charge $q_e$ for a given mode ($l,n$). A connection between the QNMs frequencies and the black hole shadow, as well as the geometric cross-section in the eikonal limit, is also described.

Quasinormal modes, quasiperiodic oscillations and shadow of rotating regular black holes in non-minimally coupled Einstein-Yang-Mills theory

In this paper we obtain an effective metric describing a regular and rotating magnetic black hole (BH) solution with a Yang-Mills electromagnetic source in Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) theory using the Newman--Janis algorithm via the non-complexification radial coordinate procedure. We then study the BH shadow and the quasinormal modes (QNMs) for massless scalar and electromagnetic fields and the quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs). To this end, we also study the embedding diagram for the rotating EYM BH. The energy conditions, shadow curvature radius, topology and the dynamical evolution of scalar and electromagnetic perturbations using the time domain integration method are investigated. We show that the shadow radius decreases by increasing the magnetic charge, while the real part of QNMs of scalar and electromagnetic fields increases by increasing the magnetic charge. This result is consistent with the inverse relation between the shadow radius and the real part of QNMs. In addition, we have studied observational constraints on the EYM parameter $λ$ via frequency analysis of QPOs and the EHT data of shadow cast by the M87 central black hole. We also find that the decaying rate of the EYM BH is slower than that of the neutral and ends up with a tail. We argue that the rotating EYM black hole can be distinguished from the Kerr-Newman black hole with a magnetic charge based on the difference between the angular diameters of their shadows.

Nonlinear magnetically charged black holes in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

In this letter we present an exact spherically symmetric and magnetically charged black hole solution with exponential model of nonlinear electrodynamics [S. Kruglov, Annals Phys. 378, 59-70 (2017)] in the context of 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. We show that our $-$ve branch, in the limit of GB coupling coefficient $α\rightarrow 0$ and the nonlinear parameter $β\to 0$, reduces to the magnetically charged black hole of Einstein-Maxwell gravity in GR. In addition we study the embedding diagram of the black hole geometry and the thermodynamic properties such as the Hawking temperature and the heat capacity of our black hole solution.

Wormholes in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

Recently Glavan and Lin [Phys. Rev. Lett. 124, 081301 (2020)] formulated the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity by re-scaling GB coupling constant as $α/(D-4)$ and taking limit $D \to 4$ at the level of field equations. The GB contribution, in the resulting novel 4D EGB theory, makes a nontrivial contribution and the theory preserves the number of degrees of freedom thereby free from the Ostrogradsky instability, and also bypasses the Lovelock theorem. We obtain an exact spherically symmetric wormhole solutions in the novel 4D EGB gravity for an isotropic and anisotropic matter sources. In this regard, we consider also a wormhole with a specific radial-dependent shape function, a power-law density profile as well as by imposing a particular equation of state. To this end, we analyze the flare-out conditions, embedding diagrams, energy conditions and the volume integral quantifier. In particular our $-$ve branch results, in the limit $α\rightarrow 0$, reduced exactly to \emph{vis-$\grave{a}$-vis} 4D Moriss-Thorne wormholes of GR.

Connection Between the Shadow Radius and Quasinormal Modes in Rotating Spacetimes

Based on the geometric-optics correspondence between the parameters of a quasinormal mode and the conserved quantities along geodesics, we propose an equation to calculate the typical shadow radius for asymptotically flat and rotating black holes when viewed from the equatorial plane given by \begin{equation}\notag \bar{R}_s=\frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}\left(\sqrt{\frac{ r_0^{+}}{f'(r)|_{r_0^{+}}}}+\sqrt{\frac{ r_0^{-}}{f'(r)|_{r_0^{-}}}}\right), \end{equation} with $r_0^{\pm}$ being the radius of circular null geodesics for the corresponding mode. Furthermore we have explicitly related the shadow radius to the real part of QNMs in the eikonal regime corresponding to the prograde and retrograde mode, respectively. As a particular example, we have computed the typical black hole shadow radius for some well known black hole solutions including the Kerr black hole, Kerr-Newman black hole and higher dimensional black hole solutions described by the Myers-Perry black hole.

Shadows of Sgr A$^*$ Black Hole Surrounded by Superfluid Dark Matter Halo

In this paper we construct a black hole solution surrounded by superfluid dark matter (BH-SFDM) and baryonic matter, and study their effects on the shadow images of the Sgr A$^{*}$ black hole. To achieve this goal, we have considered two density profiles for the baryonic matter described by the spherical exponential profile and the power law profile including a special case describing a totally dominated dark matter galaxy (TDDMG). Using the present values for the parameters of the superfluid dark matter and baryonic density profiles for the Sgr A$^{*}$ black hole, we find that the effects of the superfluid dark matter and baryonic matter on the size of shadows are almost negligible compared to the Kerr vacuum black hole. In addition, we find that by increasing the baryonic mass the shadow size increases considerably. This result can be linked to the matter distribution in the galaxy, namely the baryonic matter is mostly located in the galactic center and therefore, by increasing the baryonic matter can affect the size of black hole shadow compared to the totally dominated dark matter galaxy where we observe an increase of the angular diameter of the Sgr A$^{*}$ black hole of the magnitude $10^{-5} μ$arcsec.

Quasinormal Modes of Black Holes Surrounded by Dark Matter and Their Connection with the Shadow Radius

The purpose of this article is twofold. First, we highlight a simple connection between the real part of quasinormal modes (QNMs) in the eikonal limit and shadow radius of BHs and then explore the effect of dark matter on the QNMs of massless scalar field and electromagnetic field perturbations in a black hole (BH) spacetime surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter (BHPFDM). Using the WKB approximation we show that the quasinormal mode spectra of BHPFDM deviate from those of Schwarzschild black hole due to the presence of the PFDM encoded by the parameter $k$. Moreover it is shown that for any $k>0$, the real part and the absolute value of the imaginary part of QNM frequencies increases and this means that the field perturbations in the presence of PFDM decays more rapidly compared to Schwarzschild vacuum BH. We point out that there exists a reflecting point $k_0$ corresponding to maximal values for the real part of QNM frequencies. Namely, as the PFDM parameter $k$ increases in the interval $k<k_0$, the QNM frequencies increases and reach their maximum values at $k=k_0$. Finally we show that $k_0$ is also a reflecting point for the shadow radius while this conclusion can be deduced directly from the inverse relation between the real part of QNMs and the shadow radius.

Traversable Wormholes Supported by GUP Corrected Casimir Energy

In this paper, we investigate the effect of the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) in the Casimir wormhole spacetime recently proposed by Garattini [Eur. Phys. J. C (2019) 79: 951]. In particular, we consider three types of the GUP relations, firstly the Kempf, Mangano and Mann (KMM) model, secondly the Detournay, Gabriel and Spindel (DGS) model, and finally the so called type II model for GUP principle. To this end, we consider three specific models of the redshift function along with two different EoS of state given by $\mathcal{P}_r(r)=ω_r(r) ρ(r)$ along with $\mathcal{P}_t(r)=ω_t (r)\mathcal{P}_r(r)$ and obtain a class of asymptotically flat wormhole solutions supported by Casimir energy under the effect of GUP. Furthermore we check the null, weak, and strong condition at the wormhole throat with a radius $r_0$, and show that in general the classical energy condition are violated by some arbitrary quantity at the wormhole throat. Importantly, we examine the wormhole geometry with semi-classical corrections via embedding diagrams. We also consider the ADM mass of the wormhole, the volume integral quantifier to calculate the amount of the exotic matter near the wormhole throat, and the deflection angle of light.

Rotating regular black holes in conformal massive gravity

In this paper, we use a suitable conformal rescaling to construct static and rotating regular black holes in conformal massive gravity. The new metric is characterized by the mass $M$, the "scalar charge" $Q$, the angular momentum parameter $a$, the "hair parameter" $λ$, and the conformal scale factor encoded in the parameter $L$. We explore the shadow images and the deflection angles of relativistic massive particles in the spacetime geometry of a rotating regular black hole. For $λ\neq 0$ and $Q > 0$, the shadow is larger than the shadow of a Kerr black hole. In particular, if $λ< 0$, the shadow radius increases considerably. For $λ\neq 0$ and $Q < 0$, the shadow is smaller than the shadow of a Kerr black hole. Additionally we put observational constraints on the parameter $ Q $ using the latest Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observation of the supermassive black hole M87*. Lastly, using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem, we show that the deflection angle of massive particles is strongly affected by the parameter $L$. The deflection angle might be used to distinguish rotating regular black holes from rotating singular black holes.

Shadow Images of a Rotating Dyonic Black Hole with a Global Monopole Surrounded by Perfect Fluid

In this paper we revisit and extend the prior work of Filho and Bezerra [Phys. Rev D, 64, 084009 (2001)] to rotating dyonic global monopoles in presence of a perfect fluid. We then show that the surface topology at the event horizon, related to the metric computed, is a 2- sphere using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. By choosing $ω=-1/3, 0, 1/3$ we investigate the effect of dark matter, dust, radiation on the silhouette of black hole. The presence of the global monopole parameter $γ$ and the perfect fluid parameters $\upsilon$, also deforms the shape of black hole's shadow, which has been depicted through graphical illustrations. In the end we analyse energy emission rate of rotating dyonic global monopole surrounded by perfect fluid with respect to parameters.

Higher order corrections to deflection angle of massive particles and light rays in plasma media for stationary spacetimes using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem

The purpose of this article is twofold. First, we extend the results presented in [Gabriel Crisnejo and Emanuel Gallo, Phys.Rev.D 97, 124016 (2018)] to stationary spacetimes. Specifically, we show that the Gauss-Bonnet theorem can be applied to describe the deflection angle of light rays in plasma media in stationary spacetimes. Second, by using a correspondence between the motion of light rays in a cold non magnetized plasma and relativistic test massive particles we show that this technique is not only powerful to obtain the leading order behavior of the deflection angle of massive/massless particles in the weak field regime but also to obtain higher order corrections. We particularize it to a Kerr background where we compute the deflection angle for test massive particles and light rays propagating in a non homogeneous cold plasma by including third order corrections in the mass and spin parameters of the black hole.

Gravitational deflection of relativistic massive particles by Kerr black holes and Teo wormholes viewed as a topological effect

We consider the problem of gravitational deflection of a propagating relativistic massive particles by rotating black holes (Kerr black holes) and rotating wormholes (Teo wormholes) in the weak limit approximation. In particular we have introduced an alternative way to calculate the deflection angle for massive particles based on the refractive index of the optical media and the Gauss-Bonnet theorem applied to the isotropic optical metrics. The refractive index governing the propagation of massive particles is calculated by considering those particles as a de Broglie wave packets. Finally applying the Gauss-Bonnet theorem leads to an exact result for the deflection angle in both geometries. Put in other words, the trajectory of light rays as well as the trajectory of massive particles in a given spacetime background can be viewed as a global spacetime effect, namely as a topological effect.

Shadow images of Kerr-like wormholes

Investigations of shadows of astrophysical entities constitute a major source of insight into the evolution of compact objects. Such effects depend on the nature of the compact object and arise on account of the strong gravitational lensing that casts a shadow on the bright background. We consider the Kerr-like wormhole spacetime (Phys.\ Rev.\ D 97:024040, 2018), which is a modification of the Kerr black hole that degenerates into wormholes for nonzero values of the deviation parameter $λ^2$. The results suggest that the Kerr spacetime can reproduce far away from the throat of the wormhole. We obtain the shapes of the shadow for the Kerr-like wormholes and discuss the effect of the spin $a$, the inclination angle $θ_0$, and the deviation parameter $λ^2$ on the size and nature of the shadow. As a consequence, it is discovered that the shadow is distorted due to the spin as well as the deviation parameter and the radius of the shadow decreases with $λ^2$ if the ADM mass of the Kerr-like wormholes is considered.

Black Hole Surrounded by a Dark Matter Halo in the M87 Galactic Center and its Identification with Shadow Images

In this paper we present a new black hole solution surrounded by dark matter halo in the galactic center using the mass model of M87 and that coming from the Universal Rotation Curve (URC) dark matter profile representing family of spiral galaxies. In both cases the DM halo density is cored with a size $r_0$ and a central density $ρ_0$: $ρ(r)= ρ_0/(1+r/r_0)(1+(r/r_0)^2)$. Since $r_0ρ_0=120 M_{\odot}$/pc$^2$ [Donato et al., MNRAS, 397, 1169, 2009], then by varying the central density one can reproduce the DM profile in any spiral. Using the Newman-Jains method we extend our solution to obtain a rotating black hole surrounded by dark matter halo. We find that, the apparent shape of the shadow beside the black hole spin $a$, it also depends on the central density of the surrounded dark matter $ρ_0$. As a specific example we consider the galaxy M87, with a central density $ρ_0=6.9\,\times 10^{6} M_{\odot}$/kpc$^3$ and a core radius $r_0=91.2$ kpc. In the case of M87, our analyses show that the effect of dark matter on the size of the black hole shadow is almost negligible compared to the shadow size of the Kerr vacuum solution hence the angular diameter $ 42$ $μ$as remains almost unaltered when the dark matter is considered. For a small totally dark matter dominated spiral such as UGC 7232, we find similar effect of dark matter on the shadow images compared to the M87. However, in specific conditions having a core radius comparable to the black hole mass and dark matter with very high density, we show that the shadow images decreases compared to the Kerr vacuum black hole. The effect of dark matter on the apparent shadow shape can shed some light in future observations as an indirect way to detect dark matter using the shadow images.

Shadows and deflection angle of charged and slowly rotating black holes in Einstein-Æther theory

In this paper, we study the shadow cast by two types of charged and slowly rotating black holes in Eisntein-aether theory of gravity. This two types of black holes are corresponding to two specific combinations of the coupling constants of the aether field, i.e., $c_{14} = 0$ but $c_{123}\neq 0$ for the first type and $c_{123} = 0$ for the second type, respectively. For both types of black holes, in addition to the mass and charge of the black holes, we show that the presence of the aether field can also affect the size of the shadow. For the first type black hole, it is shown that the shadow size increases with the parameter $c_{13}$, while for the second type black hole, the shadow size still increases with c13 but decreases with the parameter $c_{14}$. With these properties of these aether parameters, we also discuss the observational constraints on these parameters by using the data of the first black hole image by the Event Horizon Telescope. In addition, we also explore the effect of the aether field on the the deflection angle of light and the time delay by using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. It is shown that, for a specific combination $c_{123} = 0$, the deflection angle/time delay is slightly affected by the aether parameter $c_{13}$ at the leading order.

On the possibility of wormhole formation in the galactic halo due to dark matter Bose-Einstein condensates

It has been recently claimed that dark matter could be in the form of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in order to explain the dynamics at large distances from the galactic center [Boehmer, Harko, JCAP {\bf 0706}, 025 (2007)]. In this paper we explore the possibility of wormhole formation in galactic halos due to the dark matter BEC. In particular we have found a new wormhole solution supported by BEC dark matter using the expressions for the density profile of the BEC and rotation velocity along with the Einstein field equations to calculate the wormhole red shift function as well as the shape function. To this end, we show that for a specific choose of the central density of the condensates our wormhole solution satisfies the flare our condition. Furthermore we check the null, weak, and strong condition at the wormhole throat with a radius $r_0$, and shown that in general the energy condition are violated by some arbitrary quantity at the wormhole throat. Using the volume integral quantifier, and choosing reasonable values of parameters we have calculate the amount of BEC exotic matter near the wormhole throat, such that the wormhole extends form $r_0$ to a a cut off radius situated at $`a'$. Moreover we have introduced a Kerr-like metric for a rotating BEC wormhole to study the effect of BEC dark matter on the Lense-Thirring precession frequencies. Namely, we have shown that the obtained precession frequencies lie within a range of typical quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs).

Deflection angle of charged massive particles in slowly rotating Kerr-Newman space-times via Gauss-Bonnet theorem and Hamilton-Jacobi method

In this paper the problem of gravitational deflection of relativistic charged massive particles in slowly rotating Kerr-Newman black holes is considered. Toward this purpose we have used two methods: Firstly, we have applied the Gauss-Bonnet theorem (GBT) and the optical geometry to evaluate the deflection angle of charged particles. Secondly, we have presented a detailed analysis of the deflection angle by means of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation recovering the same invariant result for the deflection angle in leading order terms. The crucial point behind the first method is to use the correspondence between the motion of a charged massive particles in a gravitational field in presence of electromagnetic field and the motion of photons in a non-homogeneous cold plasma. It is shown that the deflection angle besides the black hole (BH) mass $M$, BH angular momentum $a$, BH electric charge $Q^2$, BH magnetic charge $P^2$, it is also affected by the electric charge of the particle $q$ and relativistic velocity of the particle $v$.
