Leading Logarithms in the Effective Theory of Gravity: corrections to the scalar mass

In a low-energy effective field theory (EFT), scaling logarithmic terms arise from the renormalization of higher-dimensional couplings that absorb divergences generated by loop integrals with lower-order vertices. Consequently, leading logarithms (LLs) are generated entirely by the leading-order Lagrangian, rendering them universal low-energy predictions. Adapting techniques developed for chiral perturbation theory, we analyze the series of LLs in the EFT of general relativity. As a concrete application, we compute LL corrections to the scalar pole mass up to three-loop order and demonstrate that they can be determined recursively to arbitrary loop order. To confirm the physical validity of our results, we carry out the calculation using a general gauge-fixing parameter and explicitly verify its complete cancellation in the physical observable.

Non-diagonal DVCS and transition GPDs: A unified framework for spinless hadron case $γ^* π\to γππ$

Hadron-to-two-hadron transition generalized parton distributions (GPDs) extend the concept of hadron-to-resonance transition GPDs and provide a unified description of non-diagonal hard exclusive reactions in the generalized Bjorken limit. We present the formalism for the case of spinless hadrons addressing the non-diagonal deeply virtual Compton scattering $γ^*π\toγππ$ in terms of $π\toππ$ transition GPDs, which generalize GPDs for $π\to f_0, \, ρ, \, f_2, \, \cdots$ transitions. We work out the basic properties of $π\toππ$ transition GPDs and establish the soft pion theorems at the $2π$ production threshold. We construct the partial wave expansion of $π\toππ$ transition GPDs in the two-pion decay angles and employ the dispersive approach to constrain $π\toππ$ transition GPDs in terms of $ππ$-scattering phases with help of the Omnès representation. We estimate the $e^-π^+ \to e^- γπ^+ π^0$ cross section in the kinematics of the JLab@12 GeV incorporating the isolated $ρ(770)$ resonance state and work out the angular distributions of the cross section, specifying the observables sensitive to the polarization states of the produced $ρ(770)$ resonance.

Complete definition of $N \rightarrow Δ$ transition generalized parton distributions

We revisit the definition of the leading-twist chiral-even generalized parton distributions (GPDs) for $N \to Δ$ baryon transitions. We identify and address deficiencies in previous definitions of the transition GPDs inspired by the transition form factors of the vector and axial-vector currents. Through systematic analysis of all possible covariant structures, respecting discrete symmetries and the baryon spinor equations of motion, we derive complete sets of independent structures for the transition matrix elements of the vector and axial-vector partonic operators. They contain additional structures proportional to the light-cone vector, corresponding to transition GPDs of vanishing first moment, which were not included in previous parametrizations. Their presence is confirmed independently by the light-front multipole expansion and the cross-channel SO(3) partial-wave analysis of the transition matrix elements. Our analysis provides a complete definition of the $N \to Δ$ transition GPDs for use in theoretical and phenomenological studies.

Systematic description of hadron's response to non-local QCD probes: Froissart-Gribov projections in analysis of deeply virtual Compton scattering

We revisit the application of the Froissart-Gribov (FG) projections in the analysis of amplitudes for the Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS), providing essential information on generalized parton distributions (GPDs). The pivotal role of these projections in a systematic description of a hadron's response to the string-like QCD probes characterised by different values of angular momentum $J$ is emphasised. For the first time, we establish a relationship between the FG projections and GPDs for spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ targets, and we investigate these quantities in various GPD models. Finally, we provide the first numerical estimates for the FG projections based on the DVCS amplitudes directly extracted from experimental data. We argue the method of the FG projections deserves a broad application in the DVCS phenomenology.

Pion and photon beam initiated backward charmonium or lepton pair production

Hard exclusive reactions initiated by pion or photon beams within the near-backward kinematical regime specified by the small Mandelstam variable $-u$ can be studied to access pion-to-nucleon and photon-to-nucleon Transition Distribution Amplitudes (TDAs). Checking the validity of collinear factorized description of pion and photon induced reactions in terms of TDAs allows to test the universality of TDAs between the space-like and time-like regimes that is the indispensable feature of the QCD collinear factorization approach. In this short review we consider the exclusive pion- and photo-production off nucleon of a highly virtual lepton pair (or heavy quarkonium) in the near-backward region. We first employ a simplistic cross channel nucleon exchange model of pion-to-nucleon TDAs to estimate the magnitude of the corresponding cross sections for the kinematical conditions of J-PARC. We then illustrate the flexibility of our approach by building a two parameter model for the photon-to-nucleon TDAs based on preliminary results for near threshold $J/ψ$ photoproduction at JLab and provide our estimates for near-backward $J/ψ$ photoproduction and Timelike Compton Scattering cross sections for the kinematical conditions of JLab and of future EIC and EicC.

Deeply-virtual Compton process $e^- N \to e^- γπN$ to study nucleon to resonance transitions

We study the deeply-virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) process $e^- N \to e^- γπN$ involving the transition between a nucleon and a nucleon resonance in the $πN$ system, within the framework of generalized parton distributions (GPDs). For the four lowest-lying nucleon resonances, $Δ(1232)$, $P_{11}(1440)$, $D_{13}(1520)$, and $S_{11}(1535)$, we express the DVCS amplitude in the Bjorken limit in terms of corresponding nucleon-to-resonance GPDs. Building upon the knowledge of the well studied electromagnetic nucleon-to-resonance transition form factors, which map the quark charge densities in transverse position space, the corresponding GPDs will open the prospect to also access the longitudinal momentum distributions of quarks in the transition. We provide estimates for cross sections and beam-spin asymmetries in the first and second $πN$ resonance regions in the kinematics of forthcoming CLAS12 data from Jefferson Lab.

Backward timelike Compton scattering to decipher the photon content of the nucleon

The exclusive photoproduction off nucleon of a large invariant mass lepton pair in the backward region specified by the small Mandelstam variable $-u$ is discussed in the framework of collinear QCD factorization. The amplitude is factorized in terms of photon-to-nucleon Transition Distribution Amplitudes (TDAs) which encode the photon content of the nucleon. Model estimates of these new non-perturbative objects are described and the corresponding cross sections calculated. The background due to the electromagnetic Bethe-Heitler process is shown to be negligible in the kinematical regime of interest.

Exact summation of leading logs around $T\bar T$ deformation of $O(N+1)$-symmetric 2D QFTs

We consider a general (beyond $T\bar T$) deformation of the 2D $O(N+1)$ $σ$-model by the irrelevant dimension-four operators. The theory deformed in this most general way is not integrable, and the $S$-matrix loses its factorization properties. We perform the all-order summation of the leading infrared logs for the $2 \to 2$ scattering amplitude and provide the exact result for the $2 \to 2$ $S$-matrix in the leading logarithmic approximation. These results can provide us with new insights into the properties of the theories deformed by irrelevant operators more general than the $T\bar T$ deformation.

Exact summation of leading infrared logarithms in 2D effective field theories

A method of exact all-order summation of leading infrared logarithms in two dimensional massless $Φ^4$-type non-renormalizable effective field theories (EFTs) is developed. The method is applied to the ${\rm O}(N)$-symmetric EFT, which is a two-dimensional sibling of the four dimensional ${\rm O}(N+1)/{\rm O}(N)$ sigma-model. For the first time the exact all-order summation of the $\left(E^{2} \ln(1/E)\right)^n$ contributions (chiral logarithms) for the $2 \to 2$ scattering amplitudes is performed in closed analytical form. The cases when the resulting amplitudes turn to be meromorphic functions with an infinite number of poles (Landau poles) are identified. This provides the first explicit example of quasi-renormalizable field theories.

Quasi-Renormalizable Quantum Field Theories

Leading logarithms (LLs) in massless non-renormalizable effective field theories (EFTs) can be computed with the help of non-linear recurrence relations. These recurrence relations follow from the fundamental requirements of unitarity, analyticity and crossing symmetry of scattering amplitudes and generalize the renormalization group technique for the case of non-renormalizable EFTs. We review the existing exact solutions of non-linear recurrence relations relevant for field theoretical applications. We introduce the new class of quantum field theories (quasi-renormalizable field theories) in which the resummation of LLs for $2 \to 2$ scattering amplitudes gives rise to a possibly infinite number of the Landau poles.

On the universality of the $J=0$ fixed pole contribution in DVCS

S. Brodsky, F.J. Llanes-Estrada, and A. Szczepaniak formulated the $J=0$ fixed pole universality hypothesis for (deeply) virtual Compton scattering. We show that in the Bjorken limit this hypothesis is equivalent to the validity of the inverse moment sum rule for the $D$-term form factor. However, any supplementary $D$-term added to a generalized parton distribution (GPD) results in an additional $J=0$ fixed pole contribution that violates universality. Unfortunately, one can not provide any reliable theoretical argument excluding the existence of such supplementary $D$-term. Moreover, the violation of $J=0$ fixed pole universality was revealed in field theoretical GPD models. Therefore, $J=0$ fixed pole universality hypothesis remains just an external assumption and probably will never be proven theoretically.

$J=0$ fixed pole and $D$-term form factor in deeply virtual Compton scattering

S.~Brodsky, F.~J.~Llanes-Estrada, and A.~Szczepaniak emphasized the importance of the $J=0$ fixed pole manifestation in real and (deeply) virtual Compton scattering measurements and argued that the $J=0$ fixed pole is universal, {\it i.e.}, independent on the photon virtualities \cite{Brodsky:2008qu}. In this paper we review the $J=0$ fixed pole issue in deeply virtual Compton scattering. We employ the dispersive approach to derive the sum rule that connects the $J=0$ fixed pole contribution and the subtraction constant, called the $D$-term form factor for deeply virtual Compton scattering. We show that in the Bjorken limit the $J=0$ fixed pole universality hypothesis is equivalent to the conjecture that the $D$-term form factor is given by the inverse moment sum rule for the Compton form factor. This implies that the $D$-term is an inherent part of corresponding generalized parton distribution (GPD). Any supplementary $D$-term added to a GPD results in an additional $J=0$ fixed pole contribution and implies the violation of the universality hypothesis. We argue that there exists no theoretical proof for the $J=0$ fixed pole universality conjecture.

Dual parametrization of generalized parton distributions in two equivalent representations

The dual parametrization and the Mellin-Barnes integral approach represent two frameworks for handling the double partial wave expansion of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in the conformal partial waves and in the $t$-channel ${\rm SO}(3)$ partial waves. Within the dual parametrization framework, GPDs are represented as integral convolutions of forward-like functions whose Mellin moments generate the conformal moments of GPDs. The Mellin-Barnes integral approach is based on the analytic continuation of the GPD conformal moments to the complex values of the conformal spin. GPDs are then represented as the Mellin-Barnes-type integrals in the complex conformal spin plane. In this paper we explicitly show the equivalence of these two independently developed GPD representations. Furthermore, we clarify the notions of the $J=0$ fixed pole and the $D$-form factor. We also provide some insight into GPD modeling and map the phenomenologically successful Kumerički-Müller GPD model to the dual parametrization framework by presenting the set of the corresponding forward-like functions. We also build up the reparametrization procedure allowing to recast the double distribution representation of GPDs in the Mellin-Barnes integral framework and present the explicit formula for mapping double distributions into the space of double partial wave amplitudes with complex conformal spin.

The dual parametrization for gluon GPDs

We consider the application of the dual parametrization for the case of gluon GPDs in the nucleon. This provides opportunities for the more flexible modeling unpolarized gluon GPDs in a nucleon which in particular contain the invaluable information on the fraction of nucleon spin carried by gluons. We perform the generalization of Abel transform tomography approach for the case of gluons. We also discuss the skewness effect in the framework of the dual parametrization. We strongly suggest to employ the fitting strategies based on the dual parametrization to extract the information on GPDs from the experimental data.

Dual parametrization of GPDs versus the double distribution Ansatz

We establish a link between the dual parametrization of GPDs and a popular parametrization based on the double distribution Ansatz, which is in prevalent use in phenomenological applications. We compute several first forward-like functions that express the double distribution Ansatz for GPDs in the framework of the dual parametrization and show that these forward-like functions make the dominant contribution into the GPD quintessence function. We also argue that the forward-like functions $Q_{2 ν}(x)$ with $ν\ge 1$ contribute to the leading singular small-$x_{Bj}$ behavior of the imaginary part of DVCS amplitude. This makes the small-$x_{Bj}$ behavior of $\im A^{DVCS}$ independent of the asymptotic behavior of PDFs. Assuming analyticity of Mellin moments of GPDs in the Mellin space we are able to fix the value of the $D$-form factor in terms of the GPD quintessence function $N(x,t)$ and the forward-like function $Q_0(x,t)$.

Forward-like functions for dual parametrization of GPDs from nonlocal chiral quark model

We derive the set of inversion relations allowing to establish the link between the dual parametrization of GPDs and a broad class of phenomenological models for GPDs. As an example we consider the results of the calculation of the pion GPD in the framework of nonlocal chiral quark model (NlCQM) to recover the set of forward-like functions representing this GPD in the framework of dual parametrization. We also argue that Abel tomography method overlooks possible delta function like contributions to GPD quintessence function making explicit contribution to the D from factor.

Bootstrap and the physical values of $πN$ resonance parameters

This is the 6th paper in the series developing the formalism to manage the effective scattering theory of strong interactions. Relying on the theoretical scheme suggested in our previous publications we concentrate here on the practical aspect and apply our technique to the elastic pion-nucleon scattering amplitude. We test numerically the pion-nucleon spectrum sum rules that follow from the tree level bootstrap constraints. We show how these constraints can be used to estimate the tensor and vector $NNρ$ coupling constants. At last, we demonstrate that the tree-level low energy expansion coefficients computed in the framework of our approach show nice agreement with known experimental data. These results allow us to claim that the extended perturbation scheme is quite reasonable from the computational point of view.
