Minimal Dilaton Model and the Diphoton Excess

In light of the recent 750 GeV diphoton excesses reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, we investigate the possibility of explaining this excess using the Minimal Dilaton Model. We find that this model is able to explain the observed excess with the presence of additional top partner(s), with same charge as the top quark, but with mass in the TeV region. First, we constrain model parameters using in addition to the 750 GeV diphoton signal strength, precision electroweak tests, single top production measurements, as well as Higgs signal strength data collected in the earlier runs of the LHC. In addition we discuss interesting phenomenolgy that could arise in this model, relevant for future runs of the LHC.

Jet substructure and probes of CP violation in Vh production

We analyse the hVV (V = W, Z) vertex in a model independent way using Vh production. To that end, we consider possible corrections to the Standard Model Higgs Lagrangian, in the form of higher dimensional operators which parametrise the effects of new physics. In our analysis, we pay special attention to linear observables that can be used to probe CP violation in the same. By considering the associated production of a Higgs boson with a vector boson (W or Z), we use jet substructure methods to define angular observables which are sensitive to new physics effects, including an asymmetry which is linearly sensitive to the presence of CP odd effects. We demonstrate how to use these observables to place bounds on the presence of higher dimensional operators, and quantify these statements using a log likelihood analysis. Our approach allows one to probe separately the hZZ and hWW vertices, involving arbitrary combinations of BSM operators, at the Large Hadron Collider.

Lab-frame observables for probing the top-Higgs interaction

We investigate methods to explore the CP nature of the $ t\bar{t}h $ coupling at the LHC, focusing on associated production of the Higgs with a $t \bar{t}$ pair. We first discuss the constraints implied by low-energy observables and by the Higgs-rate information from available LHC data, emphasizing that they cannot provide conclusive evidence on the nature of this coupling. We then investigate kinematic observables that could probe the $ t\bar{t}h $ coupling directly, in particular quantities that can be constructed out of just lab-frame kinematics. We define one such observable by exploiting the fact that $t \bar{t}$ spin correlations do also carry information about the CP-nature of the $ t\bar{t}h $ coupling. Finally, we introduce a CP-odd quantity and a related asymmetry, able to probe CP violation in the $ t\bar{t}h $ coupling and likewise constructed out of lab-frame momenta only.

Sign Structure of Susceptibilities of Conserved Charges in the (2+1) Polyakov Quark Meson Model

The sign structure of correlations of conserved charges are investigated in a QCD like model: the (2+1) flavor Polyakov Quark Meson model. We compute all susceptibilities of the conserved charges on the $(μ_{B}-T)$ plane up to fourth order and a few at higher order as well. By varying the mass of the sigma meson, we are able to study and compare scenarios with as well as without a critical point. In the hadron-quark transition regime we identify certain correlations that turn negative unlike expectation from ideal hadron resonance gas calculations. The striking feature being that these remain negative deep into the hadronic side and thus could be measured in experiments. Measurement of such quantities in heavy ion collision experiments can elucidate the location of the QCD transition curve and possibly the critical point.

Fluctuations and Correlations of Conserved Charges in the $(2+1)$ Polyakov Quark Meson Model

We consider the $(2+1)$ flavor Polyakov Quark Meson Model and study the fluctuations (correlations) of conserved charges upto sixth (fourth) order. Comparison is made with lattice data wherever available and overall good qualitative agreement is found, more so for the case of the normalised susceptibilities. The model predictions for the ratio of susceptibilities go to that of an ideal gas of hadrons as in Hadron Resonance Gas Model at low temperatures while at high temperature the values are close to that of an ideal gas of massless quarks. Our study provides a strong basis for the use of PQM as an effective model to understand the topology of the QCD phase diagram.

Including the Fermion Vacuum Fluctuations in the $(2+1)$ flavor Polyakov Quark Meson Model

We consider the $(2+1)$ flavor Polyakov Quark Meson Model and study the effect of including fermion vacuum fluctuations on the thermodynamics and phase diagram. The resulting model predictions are compared to the recent QCD lattice simulations by the HotQCD and Wuppertal-Budapest collaborations. The variation of the thermodynamic quantities across the phase transition region becomes smoother. This results in better agreement with the lattice data. Depending on the value of the mass of the sigma meson, including the vacuum term results in either pushing the critical end point into higher values of the chemical potential or excluding the possibility of a critical end point altogether.
