The Weil Decoration of the Horrocks-Mumford Bundle

For a normal algebraic variety we generalise the relation between reflexive rank one sheaves and Weil divisors to reflexive sheaves of arbitrary rank and so-called Weil decorations. As an application, we define and study a natural generalisation of the celebrated Horrocks-Mumford bundle.

Acyclic toric sheaves

Let $\mathcal E$ be a torus-linearised reflexive sheaf over a smooth projective toric variety. Generalising a theorem of Perlman and Smith, we prove an explicit sufficient condition for $\mathcal E$ to be acyclic via Weil decorations.

Toric sheaves and polyhedra

Over a smooth projective toric variety we study toric sheaves, that is, reflexive sheaves equivariant with respect to the acting torus, from a polyhedral point of view. One application is the explicit construction of the torus invariant universal extension of two nef line bundles via polyhedral inclusion/exclusion sequences. Second, we link the cohomology of toric sheaves to the cohomology of certain constructible sheaves explicitly built out of the associated polyhedra. For the latter we define a concrete double complex and a spectral sequence which computes the cohomology of toric sheaves from the reduced cohomology of polyhedral subsets living in the realification of the character lattice of the toric variety.

Exceptional sequences of line bundles on projective bundles

For a vector bundle $\mathcal E \to \mathbb P^\ell$ we investigate exceptional sequences of line bundles on the total space of the projectivisation $X = \mathbb P(\mathcal E)$. In particular, we consider the case of the cotangent bundle of $\mathbb P^\ell$. If $\ell = 2$, we completely classify the (strong) exceptional sequences and show that any maximal exceptional sequence is full. For general $\ell$, we prove that the Rouquier dimension of $\mathcal D(X)$ equals $\dim X$, thereby confirming a conjecture of Orlov.

On the finite generation of valuation semigroups on toric surfaces

We provide a combinatorial criterion for the finite generation of a valuation semigroup associated with an ample divisor on a smooth toric surface and a non-toric valuation of maximal rank. As an application, we construct a lattice polytope such that none of the valuation semigroups of the associated polarized toric variety coming from one-parameter subgroups and centered at a non-toric point are finitely generated.

The structure of exceptional sequences on toric varieties of Picard rank two

For a smooth projective toric variety of Picard rank two we classify all exceptional sequences of invertible sheaves which have maximal length. In particular, we prove that unlike non-maximal sequences, they (a) remain exceptional under lexicographical reordering (b) satisfy strong height constraints in the Picard lattice (c) are full, that is, they generate the derived category of the variety.

Exceptional sequences of 8 line bundles on (P^1)^3

We investigate maximal exceptional sequences of line bundles on (P^1)^3, i.e. those consisting of 2^r elements. For r=3 we show that they are always full, meaning that they generate the derived category. Everything is done in the discrete setup: Exceptional sequences of line bundles appear as special finite subsets s of the Picard group Z^r of (P^1)^r, and the question of generation is understood like a process of contamination of the whole Z^r out of an infectious seed s.

Extensions of toric line bundles

For any two nef line bundles F and G on a toric variety X represented by lattice polyhedra P respectively Q, we present the universal equivariant extension of G by F under use of the connected components of the set theoretic difference of Q and P.

Versality in toric geometry

We study deformations of affine toric varieties. The entire deformation theory of these singularities is encoded by the so-called versal deformation. The main goal of our paper is to construct the homogeneous part of some degree -R of this, i.e. a maximal deformation with prescribed tangent space T^1(-R) for a given character R. To this aim we use the polyhedron obtained by cutting the rational cone defining the affine singularity with the hyperplane defined by [R=1]. Under some length assumptions on the edges of this polyhedron, we provide the versal deformation for primitive degrees R.

Polyhedra, lattice structures, and extensions of semigroups

For an arbitrary rational polyhedron we consider its decompositions into Minkowski summands and, dual to this, the free extensions of the associated pair of semigroups. Being free for the pair of semigroups is equivalent to flatness for the corresponding algebras. Our main result is phrased in this dual setup: the category of free extensions always contains an initial object, which we describe explicitly. These objects seem to be related to unique liftings in log geometry. Further motivation comes from the deformation theory of the associated toric singularity.

Toric co-Higgs sheaves

We characterise and investigate co-Higgs sheaves and associated algebraic and combinatorial invariants on toric varieties. In particular, we compute explicit examples.

Displaying the cohomology of toric line bundles

There is a standard method to calculate the cohomology of torus-invariant sheaves $L$ on a toric variety via the simplicial cohomology of associated subsets $V(L)$ of the space $N_{\mathbb R}$ of 1-parameter subgroups of the torus. For a line bundle $L$ represented by a formal difference $\Delta^+-\Delta^-$ of polyhedra in the character space $M_{\mathbb R}$, [ABKW18] contains a simpler formula for the cohomology of $L$, replacing $V(L)$ by the set-theoretic difference $\Delta^- \setminus \Delta^+$. Here, we provide a short and direct proof of this formula.

Immaculate line bundles on toric varieties

We call a sheaf on an algebraic variety immaculate if it lacks any cohomology including the zero-th one, that is, if the derived version of the global section functor vanishes. Such sheaves are the basic tools when building exceptional sequences, investigating the diagonal property, or the toric Frobenius morphism. In the present paper we focus on line bundles on toric varieties. First, we present a possibility of understanding their cohomology in terms of their (generalized) momentum polytopes. Then we present a method to exhibit the entire locus of immaculate divisors within the class group. This will be applied to the cases of smooth toric varieties of Picard rank two and three and to those being given by splitting fans. The locus of immaculate line bundles contains several linear strata of varying dimensions. We introduce a notion of relative immaculacy with respect to certain contraction morphisms. This notion will be stronger than plain immaculacy and provides an explanation of some of these linear strata.

The dualizing sheaf on first-order deformations of toric surface singularities

We explicitly describe infintesimal deformations of cyclic quotient singularities that satisfy one of the deformation conditions introduced by Wahl, Koll\'ar-Shepherd-Barron and Viehweg. The conclusion is that in many cases these three notions are different from each other. In particular, we see that while the KSB and the Viehweg versions of the moduli space of surfaces of general type have the same underlying reduced subscheme, their infinitesimal structures are different.

Algebraically rigid simplicial complexes and graphs

We call a simplicial complex algebraically rigid if its Stanley-Reisner ring admits no nontrivial infinitesimal deformations, and call it inseparable if does not allow any deformation to other simplicial complexes. Algebraically rigid simplicial complexes are inseparable. In this paper we study inseparability and rigidity of Stanley-Reisner rings, and apply the general theory to letterplace ideals as well as to edge ideals of graphs. Classes of algebraically rigid simplicial complexes and graphs are identified.

Merging divisorial with colored fans

Given a spherical homogeneous space G/H of minimal rank, we provide a simple procedure to describe its embeddings as varieties with torus action in terms of divisorial fans. The torus in question is obtained as the identity component of the quotient group N/H, where N is the normalizer of H in G. The resulting Chow quotient is equal to (a blowup of) the simple toroidal compactification of G/(H N^0). In the horospherical case, for example, it is equal to a flag variety, and the slices (coefficients) of the divisorial fan are merely shifts of the colored fan along the colors.

Negative deformations of toric singularities that are smooth in codimension two

Given a polyhedral cone sigma with smooth two-dimensional faces and, moreover, a lattice point R in the dual cone of sigma, we describe the part of the versal deformation of the associated toric variety TV(sigma) that is built from the deformation parameters of multidegree R. Let Q the polyhedron obtained by intersecting sigma with the hyperplane R=1. Then the base space is (the germ of) an affine scheme that reflects certain possibilities of splitting Q into Minkowski summands.
