Variable Exponent Wasserstein Spaces: Stability of Entropy Convexity and Modified Rényi Entropy

We study the Wasserstein space $\mathcal{P}(M)$ equipped with a distance $\Wp$ constructed from the Lagrangian $L(x,v)=|v|^{p(x)}$ where $p(x)=2+\varepsilon(x)$ with $\varepsilon$ small. Building on the fundamental work of Lott and Villani on the $K$-geodesic convexity of the Boltzmann entropy in $(\mathcal{P}(M),\Wb)$, we establish a generalized inequality showing that the entropy remains $\left(K - C\|\varepsilon\|_\infty\right)$-convex along $\Wp$-geodesics. We then introduce a modified Rényi entropy that exactly compensates the logarithmic divergence that appears in the expansions of $\Wp^2$, obtaining thus a sharp equivalence that reaveals the Bakry-Émery tensor as the effective curvature in the variable exponent setting. As applications, we derive perturbed versions of the Log-Sobolev and Talagrand inequalities in variable exponent Wasserstein spaces, showing that these fundamental functional inequalities are robust under small perturbations of the transport exponent. This work generalizes the Lott-Villani theorem and its consequences (\emph{J. Lott and C. Villani, Ann. of Math. \textbf{169} (2009), 903-991}) to situations where the transport metric varies spatially.

A posteriori error analysis for a Lagrange multiplier method for a Stokes/Biot fluid-poroelastic structure interaction model

In this work we develop an a posteriori error analysis of a conforming mixed finite element method for solving the coupled problem arising in the interaction between a free fluid and a fluid in a poroelastic medium on isotropic meshes in $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\in\{2,3\}$. The approach utilizes the semi-discrete formulation proposed by Ilona Ambartsumyan et al. in (Numerische Mathematik, October 2017). The a posteriori error estimate is based on a suitable evaluation on the residual of the finite element solution. It is proven that the a posteriori error estimate provided in this paper is both reliable and efficient. The proof of reliability makes use of suitable auxiliary problems, diverse continuous inf-sup conditions satisfied by the bilinear forms involved, Helmholtz decomposition, and local approximation properties of the Clément interpolant. On the other hand, inverse inequalities, and the localization technique based on simplexe-bubble and face-bubble functions are the main tools for proving the efficiency of the estimator. Up to minor modifications, our analysis can be extended to other finite element subspaces yielding a stable Galerkin scheme.

A posteriori error analysis for a new fully-mixed isotropic discretization of the stationary Stokes-Darcy coupled problem

In this paper we develop an a posteriori error analysis for the stationary Stokes-Darcy coupled problem approximated by conforming finite element method on isotropic meshes in $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\in\{2,3\}$. The approach utilizes a new robust stabilized fully mixed discretization developed by Jiaping Yu et al. (Advances in Difference Equations, SpringerOpen Journal, 2018). The a posteriori error estimate is based on a suitable evaluation on the residual of the finite element solution plus the stabilization terms. It is proven that the a posteriori error estimate provided in this paper is both reliable and efficient.

A new unified stabilized mixed finite element method of the Stokes-Darcy coupled problem: Isotropic discretization

In this paper we develop an a priori error analysis of a new unified mixed finite element method for the coupling of fluid flow with porous media flow in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N\in\{2,3\}$ on isotropic meshes. Flows are governed by the Stokes and Darcy equations, respectively, and the corresponding transmission conditions are given by mass conservation, balance of normal forces, and the Beavers-Joseph-Saffman law. The approach utilizes a modification of the Darcy problem which allows us to apply a variant nonconforming Crouzeix-Raviart finite element to the whole coupled Stokes-Darcy problem. The well-posedness of the finite element scheme and its convergence analysis are derived. Finally, the numerical experiments are presented, which confirm the excellent stability and accuracy of our method.
