A quantum metric on the Cantor Space

The first author and Latrémolière had introduced a quantum metric (in the sense of Rieffel) on the algebra of complex-valued continuous functions on the Cantor space. We show that this quantum metric is distinct from the quantum metric induced by a classical metric on the Cantor space. We accomplish this by showing that the seminorms induced by each quantum metric (Lip-norms) are distinct on a dense subalgebra of the algebra of complex-valued continuous functions on the Cantor space. In the process, we develop formulas for each Lip-norm on this dense subalgebra and show these Lip-norms agree on a Hamel basis of this subalgebra. Then, we use these formulas to find families of elements for which these Lip-norms disagree.

Inductive limits of C*-algebras and compact quantum metrics spaces

Given a unital inductive limit of C*-algebras for which each C*-algebra of the inductive sequence comes equipped with a compact quantum metric of Rieffel, we produce sufficient conditions to build a compact quantum metric on the inductive limit from the quantum metrics on the inductive sequence by utilizing the completeness of the dual Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity of Latremoliere on compact quantum metric spaces. This allows us to place new quantum metrics on all unital AF algebras that extend our previous work with Latremoliere on unital AF algebras with faithful tracial state. As a consequence, we produce a continuous image of the entire Fell topology on the ideal space of any unital AF algebra in the dual Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity topology.

Standard homogeneous C*-algebras as compact quantum metric spaces

Given a compact metric space X and a unital C*-algebra A, we introduce a family of seminorms on the C*-algebra of continuous functions from X to A, denoted C(X, A), induced by classical Lipschitz seminorms that produce compact quantum metrics in the sense of Rieffel if and only if A is finite-dimensional. As a consequence, we are able isometrically embed X into the state space of C(X,A). Furthermore, we are able to extend convergence of compact metric spaces in the Gromov-Hausdorff distance to convergence of spaces of matrices over continuous functions on the associated compact metric spaces in Latremoliere's Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity.

Convergence of Quotients of AF Algebras in Quantum Propinquity by Convergence of Ideals

We introduce a topology on the ideal space of inductive limits of C*-algebras built by a topological inverse limit of the Fell topologies on the C*-algebras of the given inductive sequence and we produce conditions for when this topology agrees with the Fell topology of the inductive limit. With this topology, we impart criteria for when convergence of ideals of an AF algebra can provide convergence of quotients in the quantum Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity building off previous joint work with Latremoliere. These findings bestow a continuous map from a class of ideals of the Boca-Mundici AF algebra equipped with various topologies including Jacobson and Fell topologies to the space of quotients equipped with the propinquity topology.

Some applications of conditional expectations to convergence for the quantum Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity

We prove that all the compact metric spaces are in the closure of the class of full matrix algebras for the quantum Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity. We also show that given an action of a compact metrizable group G on a quasi-Leibniz compact quantum metric space (A,Lip), the function associating any closed subgroup of G group to its fixed point C*-subalgebra in A is continuous from the topology of the Hausdorff distance to the topology induced by the propinquity. Our techniques are inspired from our work on AF algebras as quantum metric spaces, as they are based on the use of various types of conditional expectations.

AF algebras in the quantum Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity space

For unital AF algebras with faithful tracial states, we provide criteria for convergence in the quantum Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity. For any unital AF algebra, we introduce new Leibniz Lip-norms using quotient norms. Next, we show that any unital AF algebra is the limit of its defining inductive sequence of finite dimensional C*-algebras in quantum propinquity given any Lip-norm defined on the inductive sequence. We also establish sufficient conditions for when a *-isomorphism between two AF algebras produces a quantum isometry in the context of various Lip-norms.

Quantum Ultrametrics on AF Algebras and The Gromov-Hausdorff Propinquity

We construct quantum metric structures on unital AF algebras with a faithful tracial state, and prove that for such metrics, AF algebras are limits of their defining inductive sequences of finite dimensional C*-algebras for the quantum propinquity. We then study the geometry, for the quantum propinquity, of three natural classes of AF algebras equipped with our quantum metrics: the UHF algebras, the Effros-Shen AF algebras associated with continued fraction expansions of irrationals, and the Cantor space, on which our construction recovers traditional ultrametrics. We also exhibit several compact classes of AF algebras for the quantum propinquity and show continuity of our family of Lip-norms on a fixed AF algebra. Our work thus brings AF algebras into the realm of noncommutative metric geometry.
