Stability of amalgamated free products and HNN extensions

We study stability of amalgamated free products and HNN extensions of stable groups over finite groups. We focus on operator norm stability, Hilbert-Schmidt stability and stability in permutations. We provide many new examples of stable (or flexibly stable) non-amenable groups.

Virtually free groups are $p$-Schatten stable

In this note we prove that finitely generated virtually free groups are stable with respect to a normalized $p$-Schatten norm for $1\leq p < \infty$. In particular, this implies that virtually free groups are Hilbert-Schmidt stable.
