MultiCast: Zero-Shot Multivariate Time Series Forecasting Using LLMs

Predicting future values in multivariate time series is vital across various domains. This work explores the use of large language models (LLMs) for this task. However, LLMs typically handle one-dimensional data. We introduce MultiCast, a zero-shot LLM-based approach for multivariate time series forecasting. It allows LLMs to receive multivariate time series as input, through three novel token multiplexing solutions that effectively reduce dimensionality while preserving key repetitive patterns. Additionally, a quantization scheme helps LLMs to better learn these patterns, while significantly reducing token use for practical applications. We showcase the performance of our approach in terms of RMSE and execution time against state-of-the-art approaches on three real-world datasets.

On the intersection of tame subgroups in groups acting on trees

Let $G$ be a group acting on a tree $T$ with finite edge stabilizers of bounded order. We provide, in some very interesting cases, upper bounds for the complexity of the intersection $H\cap K$ of two tame subgroups $H$ and $K$ of $G$ in terms of the complexities of $H$ and $K$. In particular, we obtain bounds for the Kurosh rank $Kr(H\cap K)$ of the intersection in terms of Kurosh ranks $Kr(H)$ and $Kr(K)$, in the case where $H$ and $K$ act freely on the edges of $T$.

Determinantal representations of invariant hyperbolic plane curves

We study hyperbolic polynomials with nice symmetry and express them as the determinant of a Hermitian matrix with special structure. The goal of this paper is to answer a question posed by Chien and Nakazato in 2015. By properly modifying a determinantal representation construction of Dixon (1902), we show for every hyperbolic polynomial of degree n invariant under the cyclic group of order n there exists a determinantal representation admitted via some cyclic weighted shift matrix. Moreover, if the polynomial is invariant under the action of the dihedral group of order n, the associated cyclic weighted shift matrix is unitarily equivalent to one with real entries.
