Real-root property of the spectral polynomial of the Treibich-Verdier potential and related problems

We study the spectral polynomial of the Treibich-Verdier potential. Such spectral polynomial, which is a generalization of the classical Lame polynomial, plays fundamental roles in both the finite-gap theory and the ODE theory of Heun's equation. In this paper, we prove that all the roots of such spectral polynomial are real and distinct under some assumptions. The proof uses the classical concept of Sturm sequence and isomonodromic theories. We also prove an analogous result for a polynomial associated with a generalized Lame equation. Differently, our new approach is based on the viewpoint of the monodromy data.

New Airy-type solutions of the ultradiscrete Painleve II equation with parity variables

The q-difference Painleve II equation admits special solutions written in terms of determinant whose entries are the general solution of the q-Airy equation. An ultradiscrete limit of the special solutions is studied by the procedure of ultradiscretization with parity varialbes. Then we obtain new Airy-type solutions of the ultradiscrete Painleve II equation with parity variables, and the solutions have richer structure than the known solutions.

Integral transformation of Heun's equation and some applications

It is known that the Fuchsian differential equation which produces the sixth Painlevé equation corresponds to the Fuchsian differential equation with different parameters via Euler's integral transformation, and Heun's equation also corresponds to Heun's equation with different parameters, again via Euler's integral transformation. In this paper we study the correspondences in detail. After investigating correspondences with respect to monodromy, it is demonstrated that the existence of polynomial-type solutions corresponds to apparency (non-branching) of a singularity. For the elliptical representation of Heun's equation, correspondence with respect to monodromy implies isospectral symmetry. We apply the symmetry to finite-gap potentials and express the monodromy of Heun's equation with parameters which have not yet been studied.

Ultradiscrete Painlevé VI with Parity Variables

We introduce a ultradiscretization with parity variables of the $q$-difference Painlevé VI system of equations. We show that ultradiscrete limit of Riccati-type solutions of $q$-Painlevé VI satisfies the ultradiscrete Painlevé VI system of equations with the parity variables, which is valid by using the parity variables. We study some solutions of the ultradiscrete Riccati-type equation and those of ultradiscrete Painlevé VI equation.

Multi-indexed Jacobi polynomials and Maya diagrams

Multi-indexed Jacobi polynomials are defined by the Wronskian of four types of eigenfunctions of a deformed Pöschl-Teller Hamiltonian. We give a correspondence between multi-indexed Jacobi polynomials and pairs of Maya diagrams, and we show that any multi-indexed Jacobi polynomial is essentially equal to some multi-indexed Jacobi polynomial of two types of eigenfunction. As an application, we show a Wronskian-type formula of some special eigenstates of the deformed Pöschl-Teller Hamiltonian.

Source identity and kernel functions for Inozemtsev-type systems

The Inozemtsev Hamiltonian is an elliptic generalization of the differential operator defining the BC_N trigonometric quantum Calogero-Sutherland model, and its eigenvalue equation is a natural many-variable generalization of the Heun differential equation. We present kernel functions for Inozemtsev Hamiltonians and Chalykh-Feigin-Veselov-Sergeev-type deformations thereof. Our main result is a solution of a heat-type equation for a generalized Inozemtsev Hamiltonian which is the source for all these kernel functions. Applications are given, including a derivation of simple exact eigenfunctions and eigenvalues for the Inozemtsev Hamiltonian.

Introduction to middle convolution for differential equations with irregular singularities

We introduce middle convolution for systems of linear differential equations with irregular singular points, and we presend a tentative definition of the index of rigidity for them. Under some assumption, we show a list of terminal patterns of irreducible systems of linear differential equations by iterated application of middle convolution when the index is positive or zero.

Integral transformation and Darboux transformation

We review Darboux-Crum transformation of Heun's differential equation. By rewriting an integral transformation of Heun's differential equation into a form of elliptic functions, we see that the integral representation is a generalization of Darboux-Crum transformation. We also consider conservation of monodromy with respect to the transformations.

On spectral polynomials of the Heun equation. II

The well-known Heun equation has the form: Q(z)S''(z)+P(z)S'(z)+V(z)S(z)=0 where Q(z) is a cubic complex polynomial, P(z) and V(z) are polynomials of degrees at most 2 and 1 resp. One of the classical problems about the Heun equation is for a given positive integer N to find all possible linear polynomials V(z) such that the latter equation has a polynomial solution S(z) of degree N. Below we prove a conjecture of the 2nd author claiming that the union of roots of such V(z)'s for a given N tends when N->oo to a certain compact connecting the three roots of Q(z) and given by the condition that a certain natural abelian integral is real-valued.

Middle Convolution and Heun's Equation

Heun's equation naturally appears as special cases of Fuchsian system of differential equations of rank two with four singularities by introducing the space of initial conditions of the sixth Painlevé equation. Middle convolutions of the Fuchsian system are related with an integral transformation of Heun's equation.

The Hermite-Krichever ansatz for Fuchsian equations with applications to the sixth Painlevé equation and to finite-gap potentials

Several results including integral representation of solutions and Hermite-Krichever Ansatz on Heun's equation are generalized to a certain class of Fuchsian differential equations, and they are applied to equations which are related with physics. We investigate linear differential equations that produce Painlevé equation by monodromy preserving deformation and obtain solutions of the sixth Painlevé equation which include Hitchin's solution. The relationship with finite-gap potential is also discussed. We find new finite-gap potentials. Namely, we show that the potential which is written as the sum of the Treibich-Verdier potential and additional apparent singularities of exponents -1 and 2 is finite-gap, which extends the result obtained previously by Treibich. We also investigate the eigenfunctions and their monodromy of the Schrödinger operator on our potential.

Integral representation of solutions to Fuchsian system and Heun's equation

We obtain integral representations of solutions to special cases of the Fuchsian system of differential equations and Heun's differential equation. In particular, we calculate the monodromy of solutions to the Fuchsian equation that corresponds to Picard's solution of the sixth Painlevé equation, and to Heun's equation.

Towards Finite-Gap Integration of the Inozemtsev Model

The Inozemtsev model is considered to be a multivaluable generalization of Heun's equation. We review results on Heun's equation, the elliptic Calogero-Moser-Sutherland model and the Inozemtsev model, and discuss some approaches to the finite-gap integration for multivariable models.

Analytic continuation of eigenvalues of the Lamé operator

Eigenvalues of the Lamé operator are studied as complex-analytic functions in period $τ$ of an elliptic function. We investigate the branching of eigenvalues numerically and clarify the relationship between the branching of eigenvalues and the convergent radius of a perturbation series.
