AMLgentex: Mobilizing Data-Driven Research to Combat Money Laundering

Money laundering enables organized crime by moving illicit funds into the legitimate economy. Although trillions of dollars are laundered each year, detection rates remain low because launderers evade oversight, confirmed cases are rare, and institutions see only fragments of the global transaction network. Since access to real transaction data is tightly restricted, synthetic datasets are essential for developing and evaluating detection methods. However, existing datasets fall short: they often neglect partial observability, temporal dynamics, strategic behavior, uncertain labels, class imbalance, and network-level dependencies. We introduce AMLGentex, an open-source suite for generating realistic, configurable transaction data and benchmarking detection methods. AMLGentex enables systematic evaluation of anti-money laundering systems under conditions that mirror real-world challenges. By releasing multiple country-specific datasets and practical parameter guidance, we aim to empower researchers and practitioners and provide a common foundation for collaboration and progress in combating money laundering.

A machine-learning approach to measuring the escape of ionizing radiation from galaxies in the reionization epoch

Recent observations of galaxies at $z \gtrsim 7$, along with the low value of the electron scattering optical depth measured by the Planck mission, make galaxies plausible as dominant sources of ionizing photons during the epoch of reionization. However, scenarios of galaxy-driven reionization hinge on the assumption that the average escape fraction of ionizing photons is significantly higher for galaxies in the reionization epoch than in the local Universe. The NIRSpec instrument on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will enable spectroscopic observations of large samples of reionization-epoch galaxies. While the leakage of ionizing photons will not be directly measurable from these spectra, the leakage is predicted to have an indirect effect on the spectral slope and the strength of nebular emission lines in the rest-frame ultraviolet and optical. Here, we apply a machine learning technique known as lasso regression on mock JWST/NIRSpec observations of simulated $z=7$ galaxies in order to obtain a model that can predict the escape fraction from JWST/NIRSpec data. Barring systematic biases in the simulated spectra, our method is able to retrieve the escape fraction with a mean absolute error of $Δf_{\mathrm{esc}} \approx 0.12$ for spectra with $S/N\approx 5$ at a rest-frame wavelength of 1500 Å for our fiducial simulation. This prediction accuracy represents a significant improvement over previous similar approaches.

Analysis of Chromosome 20 - A Study

Since the arrival of next-generation sequencing technologies the amount of genetic sequencing data has increased dramatically. This has has fueled an increase in human genetics research. At the same time, with the recent advent of technologies in processing large data sets, lot of these technologies are proving valuable and efficient in analyzing these huge datasets. In this paper we use some of these technologies to analyze genetic sequencing data of 1000 Genomes Project, produce and evaluate a framework to process the sequencing data thereof and look into structural variations with respect to population groups.
