First order phase transition in Ising model on two connected Barabasi-Albert networks

We investigate the behavior of the Ising model on two connected Barabasi-Albert scale-free networks. We extend previous analysis and show that a first order temperature-driven phase transition occurs in such system. The transition between antiparalelly ordered networks to paralelly ordered networks is shown to be discontinuous. We calculate the critical temperature. We confirm the calculations with numeric simulations using Monte-Carlo methods.

Networks of companies and branches in Poland

In this study we consider relations between companies in Poland taking into account common branches they belong to. It is clear that companies belonging to the same branch compete for similar customers, so the market induces correlations between them. On the other hand two branches can be related by companies acting in both of them. To remove weak, accidental links we shall use a concept of threshold filtering for weighted networks where a link weight corresponds to a number of existing connections (common companies or branches) between a pair of nodes.

Ising model on two connected Barabasi-Albert networks

We investigate analytically the behavior of Ising model on two connected Barabasi-Albert networks. Depending on relative ordering of both networks there are two possible phases corresponding to parallel or antiparallel alingment of spins in both networks. A difference between critical temperatures of both phases disappears in the limit of vanishing inter-network coupling for identical networks. The analytic predictions are confirmed by numerical simulations.

Universal scaling of distances in complex networks

Universal scaling of distances between vertices of Erdos-Renyi random graphs, scale-free Barabasi-Albert models, science collaboration networks, biological networks, Internet Autonomous Systems and public transport networks are observed. A mean distance between two nodes of degrees k_i and k_j equals to =A-B log(k_i k_j). The scaling is valid over several decades. A simple theory for the appearance of this scaling is presented. Parameters A and B depend on the mean value of a node degree _nn calculated for the nearest neighbors and on network clustering coefficients.

Voter model on Sierpinski fractals

We investigate the ordering of voter model on fractal lattices: Sierpinski Carpets and Sierpinski Gasket. We obtain a power law ordering, similar to the behavior of one-dimensional system, regardless of fractal ramification.

Voter model dynamics in complex networks: Role of dimensionality, disorder and degree distribution

We analyze the ordering dynamics of the voter model in different classes of complex networks. We observe that whether the voter dynamics orders the system depends on the effective dimensionality of the interaction networks. We also find that when there is no ordering in the system, the average survival time of metastable states in finite networks decreases with network disorder and degree heterogeneity. The existence of hubs in the network modifies the linear system size scaling law of the survival time. The size of an ordered domain is sensitive to the network disorder and the average connectivity, decreasing with both; however it seems not to depend on network size and degree heterogeneity.

Log-periodic oscillations in degree distributions of hierarchical scale-free networks

Hierarchical models of scale free networks are introduced where numbers of nodes in clusters of a given hierarchy are stochastic variables. Our models show periodic oscillations of degree distribution P(k) in the log-log scale. Periods and amplitudes of such oscillations depend on network parameters. Numerical simulations are in a good agreement to analytical calculations.

Conservation laws for the voter model in complex networks

We consider the voter model dynamics in random networks with an arbitrary distribution of the degree of the nodes. We find that for the usual node-update dynamics the average magnetization is not conserved, while an average magnetization weighted by the degree of the node is conserved. However, for a link-update dynamics the average magnetization is still conserved. For the particular case of a Barabasi-Albert scale-free network the voter model dynamics leads to a partially ordered metastable state with a finite size survival time. This characteristic time scales linearly with system size only when the updating rule respects the conservation law of the average magnetization. This scaling identifies a universal or generic property of the voter model dynamics associated with the conservation law of the magnetization.
